Title: Runaway (1984)
Post by: Chiprocks1 on April 17, 2014, 03:33:16 pm

I've literally not see Runaway since the day I saw it opening day in the theaters. It was hokey back then and immediately 'dated' upon release. For whatever reason, I decided that I would revisit this movie just to see how it held up all these years later. Simply put, the movie is a turd. It's awful and looks even more dated now. I can't believe that writer/director Michael Crichton would think that anything that takes place in this movie was cutting edge. The performances were wooden. The special FX were on the level of what you'd find in a Syd and Marty Croft production. Seriously, the "robots" are nothing more than glorified microwaves with wheels. Naturally, the reason why I even bothered to see this movie way back when was because of Gene Simmons. His unmasking still had some life to it, so seeing him acting was definitely the motivating factor here. I wouldn't say he does a bad job here, but his "acting" definitely teeters on being ham-fisted. I definitely expected more from Tom Selleck though. Cynthia Rhodes was nice to look at, so it has THAT going for it. Definitely Skip this turd. Kirstie Alley and Stan Shaw co-star.
