Soooo, I'm looking at Kia's and one of the dealer's has this loud commercial on the front page. Actually after turning it off several times, I watched it. Kinda fun and funny to watch.

Ha. Good one.

Off topic, what's up with the video not embedding? I checked to see if they had it disabled and they don't. So, it should be embedding properly. I tried embedding random YouTube clip and it works fine. But for whatever reason, this particular clip does not. Weird.

I tried several times yesterday doing different things and nothing worked. Just tried it again... removed '&feature=youtu.be' and now it works. Double weird.

How did you know to remove that? I know sometimes I have to remove the word embedded when I run into problems.

I know looking at the link, those are added by youtube or google, and not necessary. I look for the core line.

5-hour ENERGY - Fix the Tired

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DNexGfaUVA

It's not so much the commercial as it is the song itself that I can't get enough of. I actually think that this belongs in Earworms - What Song Is Stuck In Your Head At The Moment?  (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/music/earworms-what-song-is-stuck-in-your-head-at-the-moment/), given the fact that I'm always singing "Whooooaaah, so tired......" Just sayin'.

I am a total sucker for brunettes. While I love all kinds of women, brunettes just seem to catch my eye the most. And long hair, oh my word.

Well, the recent Chase Freedom commercial immediately caught my eye with my new vision of loveliness... Jessica Leccia.

Carl's Jr. - Mechanical Bull (Cameron Richardson)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPc70pG-7tY

I was pretty certain that I had already posted this here. Anyway, I was watching Dexter: Season 1 Episode 9 (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/dexter-(season-1-2006)/msg5316/#msg5316) this morning and Slow Ride was featured. Whenever I hear the song, no matter where I am at, I immediately think of this awesome commercial, a masterpiece. For those that don't know who Cameron is, she got her big break in Cover Me (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/tv's-greatest-hits-and-misses/cover-me-(season-1-entire-series)/msg4346/#msg4346), which is ironic because she is anything but in the commercial. (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/HTL_biggrin.gif) The long version of Slow Ride can be found here (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/music/the-greatest-songs-of-all-time/msg5314/#msg5314).

I would think with technology today, people could do some amazing things.

As far as I know, anyone could submit an AD that wasn't employed by the company. With all the editing software like Final Cut Pro, Premiere or Compositing software like After Effects, you can create stuff that rivals the big FX houses.

And yes, you need to get your  s h i t  posted online!!

GEICO Two Tickets to Paradise Commercial - Happier Than Eddie Money Running a Travel Agency

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG0t57PUTaM

When I first saw this 30 second commercial, it flew past me that was the real Eddie Money. Then I picked up on it the 2nd time. The 3rd and 4th, I was listening and watching Eddie Money because… it was so bad… and his face.

My local radio station started to talk about it. First they laid it out how the dialog of the customer was a reaction to the song lyrics… I missed that one.

Then they went on to try to determine if Eddie Money has clue 1 how bad he looks, or he knows it and GEICO capitalized on it. One of the guys was defending how hard it is to sing A Capella. Few singers, good singers can sound good or great.
The others tend to disagree. Lot’s of examples on youtube people singing without aid of any sort.

I might tend to believe he knew what was captured here, strictly because of his over the top goofy facial movements.

What do you think?

Eddie Money is clueless and doesn’t know he sounds or looks bad
Eddie Money knows himself and did the best he could
GEICO made an offer and did the best with what they could.

I recognized him immediately the first time I saw this about a week ago and thought this was very embarrassing. My first thought at the time was if he knew he was in on the joke that they were basically making fun of him because he really comes off poorly here. I wouldn't think he'd be strapped for cash since he, along with his peers always has some kind of "Nostalgia Tour" of some kind, unless he has health issues that prevents him from earning a living.

Good and bad in the same thread. No need to split them where one thread would get lost very fast. As for this commercial, I saw it couple of weeks ago and thought it was horrible

This odd short story is actually a commercial for Volvo.

Quote
We thought you should know that English filmmaker Stephen Frears (Dangerous Liaisons, High Fidelity, Dirty Pretty Things) created a promotional short film for Volvo starring Robert Downey Jr. The Route V50 is like a wacky Twilight Zone episode that finds the Iron Man actor running into himself over and over again at different points in the time-travel tale. What's better than RDJ acting like a loon and mugging for the camera?

Nothing — except three RDJs, and that's exactly what we get in the cryptic little short. Sure, it's a TV commercial, but it's the most engaging advertisement you'll probably watch today. We'd buy more stuff if the Weird Science star were selling it to us — he's totally RDJceptioning us with his eyes. The video is a few years old, but it's worth another watch, so have it — and start ticking off the 92 days until we get to see Iron Man 3

See Frank Miller's hot Sin City-ish Gucci ad starring Chris Evans

Quote
Here's an awesome ad by Frank Miller of The Dark Knight Returns, 300 and Sin City fame, starring Captain America's Chris Evans and Evan Rachel Wood (The Wrestler, Across The Universe).  Even the director himself gets a cool cameo behind the wheel in this extended cut of the original noirish fragrance commercial.

The project was shot at the famous Cinecitta Studios in Rome and was Miller's first TV commercial experience when Gucci brought him aboard back in 2010 to film a series of spots for their new Gucci Guilty.  This is the longer, sexier version for Gucci Guilty Black, with rain-washed boulevards, star-crossed lovers, glowing neon, ample skin and one killer cafe racer.

Here's what Frank Miller had to say on Gucci's website:

“We know these characters now and what together they are capable of doing and of being. We all think of this as a mini-movie, with this our latest episode of the storyline. The color scheme is stark: green and red light, against which our mavericks’ eyes – and intentions – of our protagonist smoulder like coals.”

Spritz yourself liberally then go take a wild ride ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOnx-_nopnk

I've heard of the band, but have never heard one song of theirs. I have no idea who is who here. The idea of a Boy Band selling perfume just sounds stupid, like this is the "new" thing to do. It feels like every new star(s) has it written into their contract that they get a Perfume deal of some sort. Lame. With that said, I found this commercial to be very, very funny with the evolving 'Hairdo's'. Haha.

Yep, a commercial paying homage to Kubrick's The Shining

by Siri Bunford

Quote
Siri Bunford created this amazing spot for Channel 4′s Stanley Kubrick Season, which gives a fictional, behind-the-scenes look at the production of The Shining. The commercial is done in one continuous gliding shot that explores the “back alleys” of the shoot, glimpsing many of the memorable characters and props from the film. The music and the pacing though still give off the creepy vibe of the film, which is what really makes this a true gem.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eduNjwNvcH4

Quote
Anyone who remembers that effervescent era of leg warmers and acid-washed jeans will be as at home here as they would be watching a John Hughes film festival.

You'll spot the real Jerry Casale of Devo stowing his famed red "energy dome" headgear under the seat in front of him. Talking electronic bear Teddy Ruxpin gets his own seat, and cat-eating alien Alf needs an assist with his oxygen mask. A breakdancer bails on his exit-row duties by doing the worm back down the aisle, and happily, turning off all portable electronic devices does not include your handheld Coleco Electronic Quarterback game. A bright pink can of Tab, acid-washed denim jackets, leg warmers, mall hair, mullets and a Rubik's Cube all make appearances, too. We can only dream that we could bring our Atari 2600 on the plane to play a little Frogger while cruising at 33,000 feet.

The video wraps up with a familiar face in the co-pilot seat. That's NBA legend Kareen Abdul-Jabbar helping fly the plane — movie fans will know he played co-pilot Roger Murdock in the classic 1980 comedy film "Airplane!"

‘John Lennon,’ ‘Kurt Cobain’ Appear in New Beer Commercial
by Dave Swanson March 25, 2014 5:00 PM

John Lennon, Elvis Presley and Kurt Cobain are among the dead celebrities whose likenesses make appearances in a questionable new beer commercial.

Bavaria Radler haven’t gone to the extent of reconstructing the stars’ iconic images with technology the way recent ads have done with the likes of Marylin Monroe and Audrey Hepburn, but their use of models resembling famous dead people to sell adult beverages does tread on a slippery slope.

The setting is a lovely, private beach getaway that is, apparently, inhabited by dead celebrities. And they’re all getting tanked! We see “Elvis” hanging out on the beach checking out the waitress who brings him a bottle, while it appears that “Marylin Monroe” is rubbing suntan lotion on “Tupac Shakur.” Meanwhile, someone pretty clearly resembling Lennon is ordering drinks for he and his pal “Cobain.”

We get the concept — supposedly dead stars attempting to preserve their anonymous lives — and it’s clearly a play on all the myths and conspiracy theories about Elvis and Tupac still being alive. But even ignoring any general moral questions about using dead celebrities to endorse any given product, when you realize that one of these stars died on the toilet, one overdosed on pills, and the other three were shot dead — one in a suicide — it only makes the whole thing even weirder. This note’s for you, indeed.

I would much rather they just superimposed the real deal instead of going for cheap knockoffs that don't even look anything remotely like their counterparts. It's almost like they are saying they don't care enough to even try to make it a good representation of the iconic personalities.

This Is SportsCenter - Metallica (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/RockOn-1.gif)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoPYP-58SHU

Quote
Though their music may be heavy and dark, the guys in Metallica have proven that they don’t really take themselves too seriously. They metal icons showed off their irreverent side once again in a hilarious new ad for ESPN’s flagship program ‘Sportscenter.’

In the ad, the band are left wandering around the ESPN offices in search of a new athlete to utilize their talents following the retirement of former New York Yankees relief pitcher Mariano Rivera. The closer famously used the band’s classic anthem ‘Enter Sandman’ as his entrance music for nearly the entirety of his soon-to-be Hall of Fame career.

Sometimes it can be quite freeing to put yourself at the mercy of others,” drummer Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone.  ”ESPN’s commercials have a tendency to be hilarious. We were like, ‘That sounds like a good time.’ The whole thing had an overriding impulsivity to it.”

There are a few twists and turns throughout the commercial, but as for Ulrich’s favorite? “When [anchor Stuart Scott] takes the tab off Kirk [Hammett]‘s ‘guitar lessons’ flier and uses it as his gum wrapper, that’s just classic,” Ulrich said. “The whole thing is really funny. Man, let’s do another 20 of these. It’s really fun.”

This is the second comedic spot the band have filmed in as many months. In June, ahead of their controversial appearance at the Glastonbury Music Festival in the U.K. the band appeared in a short film titled ‘Glastallica’ which features the group in full bear suits shooting at British hunters. The short was meant to parody the heat Metallica had received for singer James Hetfield’s appearance in a reality series about Alaskan bear hunting.

New Carls Jr commercial.  First, the video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WTA_8waxTo&

Now the problem:  I don't know about you guys, but I can't help but see the effects.  I know she's got to be covered, and the placement of things in front of her scream "green screen" to me, I can just tell the fruit bowl or the ice block is shot as a different layer and composited on top.  Am I the only one who sees this?

And adding to the unreality is the fact that they say au naturel but her hair is explicitly done ,she has noticeable makeup and a digitally erased bra or something holding up her boobs.  I'm seeing all the stuff that ISN'T her more than she is, I'm looking for the seams.

I'm worried it sounds like I'm saying "she shoulda really done it and we shoulda gotten to see," but I'm not, I'm just saying it's overproduced that it undoes the intended effect, and once that's the case, there's no point in doing it (and really, the idea of a hot naked girl selling a burger is pretty stupid and purile, and I say this as a dude who likes naked girls and burgers).

Title: Re: Commercials
Post by: Neumatic on January 22, 2015, 02:41:34 pm
The thing is, I see shots like that in promos for TV shows and movies, the bare back reveal is so freakin' common as a selling point even though the odds are that's ALL you're going to see... it's just in those examples, there's context, here it's meaningless.

I still feel like sex... if not sells, it gets attention, but without any sort of context, if it's just for shock or to turn heads, it's embarassing to watch.  You know what it actually reminds me of?  That episode of Friends where Chandler is an intern at that ad company and has to come up with a slogan for those awful wheelie kick shoes.  The kid who goes before Chandler wraps up his pitch with "and the two girls in the hot tub start makin' out with each other." "Interesting, except you didn't mention the shoes!"

Thinking of naked and shoes, now I'm reminded of Miranda Kerr's recent Reebok commercial.  It's... sort of similar, she's undressing and there's a slightly voyeuristic tendency to the thing, but I don't have a problem with it.  It's cute.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xydR7A6EP7U

Outside of feeling very natural (every shot in that Carls Jr commercial felt so artificial and planned), you also feel like you might get a glimpse of something (as if that wouldn't be caught immediately in editing), the undressing has a point, it sells a key feature of the product, and it's a supermodel yet she doesn't look like "a supermodel."

What we need is a Rob Lowe-like media campaign that p*sses on both major providers, because they both suck.  Remember those George Takei commercials where he was going on about those TVs with the yellow pixels in them (pointless in the RGB spectrum since no one transmits yellow and already built-in to HD), we need that, but telling Americans how much better internet in every other country is.  Maybe someone from Korea, "you know, in Korea, we have coverage everywhere.  We can download a feature length film in 2 minutes, and we get big movie releases at the theaters and in our homes on the same day."

Doritos Super Bowl Commercial 2018 Peter Dinklage and Morgan Freeman

I found this one to be the best and most memorable of all the Superbowl Commercials this year. I honestly can't remember any other.

This just randomly popped up on my Youtube, this is the EXACT satellite package my family had as a kid.  I didn't realize there were 14 channels on there... and a lot of them were garbage.  Explains why they was never anything on.  Oh, and what the h*ll with there being "Sky Movies" and "The Movie Channel?"  That's WAY too similar.  Call it Sky Pictures or Sky Cinema or SOMETHING.

Sky One was essentially FOX.  Like, literally the same programming at the same times as my local affiliate in the states, though I don't remember if they ran Married with Children after the Simpsons.  I can't remember much of the Children's Channel.  Family was... I don't remember.  Wasn't into MTV back then (or CMT) but part of me wishes I was, I was so out of the music scene back then.

It's striking how many channels are basically US channels with a handful of UK ones.  I remember a neighbour down the street having Cartoon Network but I don't know how.  And because we were in Rome, we didn't have the terrestrial channels (no BBC, no ITV or Channel 4).  We probably got Italian channels but I never knew how to access them.

It's gotta be a head trip when something like this from your past just randomly shows up. I wish something like this would come my way on YouTube.
