Under The Dome (Season 1)

I absolutely never thought I would give Under The Dome a second chance. But a little back story as to why. When the series originally premiered, I did watch the first two episodes. They weren't bad by any stretch, but at the time, a handful of other new shows I had invested in were being cancelled left and right which left me feeling like it was all pointless to give these shows my time if the network wasn't willing to do the same. So, after watching the second episode, I looked at it objectively and my conclusion is that there wasn't enough in the series to make a compelling argument that the show would survive the season, let alone get to the end.

So, imagine my surprise when I heard that it was actually renewed for a second season. Beyond that, I haven't heard diddly squat about how the public has received this. Well, I did hear from my Mom and she told me it sucked. She hated it. Anyway, I decided to give this another shot with the knowledge that there is more after this. I gotta say, I actually enjoyed it quite a bit, flaws and all. There are some bad actors on the show, namely the one that plays Junior. He is AWFUL! Every time he says a line, you can physically see that he is trying to refrain from laughing at some of the bad dialogue he has to say. But I think he would suck if he was reading Shakespeare.

There are a couple of characters that annoy the f*ck out of me because of their sheer stupidity. And lets not forget the unforgivable Black Egg plot. This is what my Mom hated about the show. She quit once the focus was on the egg and I understand why. It is hokey that the Dome would be powered by THAT! Anyway, with all these issues, I felt compelled to keep watching. It was kind of like watching Lost with the absurd plot twist and was entertain me. Go figure. It also helps that the series at least knows how to end on cliffhangers that all but guarantee that you tune in the following week to pick up where they left off. One thing I noticed about doing a DVD binge marathon, the show plays better when it's back to back episodes. When I originally watched the first two episodes, they were a week apart and I never was compelled to tune in. I can definitely recommend this as a Rent. Now I get to go and watching the first 3 episodes of Season 2 waiting for me on OnDemand. FYI, never read the books, so no spoilers about anything beyond Season 1. Thanks.
