Post by: Neumatic on August 15, 2014, 05:47:23 pm
This is what I love about video games now... it literally feels like you'r in the movie!  Now imagine this on the Oculus!

Here's 20 minutes of Gameplay.  I'm hypnotized.

I have every intention of getting this. I was under the impression that you weren't a gamer....at least of the console variety. You getting this or what?

I don't play games, but I find them interesting.  I've actually got a TON of walkthroughs on Youtube I need to watch, I love the art and design of all of it, and I can't very well draw while trying to play, can I? That's something that always bugged me when I was a kid, I was always inspired by video game and computer art, but there was no way to grab hold of it and analyze it.

I'm a big Aliens fan, and the idea of seeing the cast back together... I wanna see that!

Edit/update:

Oh sh*t, how did I not see the trailer before?  WOW!

I heard about this a couple of weeks ago about how popular it is to watch these YouTube videos of other people playing the game.

I heard about this a couple of weeks ago about how popular it is to watch these YouTube videos of other people playing the game.

Very popular! There is a hosting site called Twitch that I absolutely love. When I don't have time to play and I need to get work done, I turn on Twitch and either look for a specific game or one of the host that I'm subscribed to and watch...or have on as background noise while I work. What's cool is that these cats make nice revunue just for playing their games online and it's all live. What you see on YouTube is basically the hosting uploading their Live Streams from Twitch and dumping them on YouTube to attract potential subscribers over on Twitch as Subscribers have to pay $5 per month. But with there $5 they are able to play the host in whatever game he has running at the moment. There are other incentives to join as well, but you get the idea and the more subscribers you get, the fatter your paycheck becomes. You do however have to split the money you bring in. Some of it going to Twitch for their services and some of it to advertising. Not sure what the percentage breakdown is as I need to investigate that part a bit more.

I love the idea so much that I'm actually contemplating opening a Twitch account myself. It's easy money for doing something you aleady do. At the moment I watch Live Streams via the 'Unofficial" Twitch Channel on Roku. That's one of my goto channels now. The Unofficial Channel is not to be confused with the Official Channel that you make money off of. It's a fanmade channel that allows regular folk the ability to watch while inside of Roku.

FYI, the Unofficial Twitch App for Roku is free. No pay or anything. It's just there to watch whoever and whatever you want at any time. When I said I subscribed to certain players on that app, I meant to say I hit the follow button so that I can know when they are streaming.

I watched someone play through all 96 levels of Super Mario World a month or so ago... I never had an SNES, but the few times I tried playing the game at my friend's house, I never got very far.  It was cool to finally see the thing the whole way through, including all the secret levels.  I dig the idea that the map was incomplete and the player had to find all these hidden doors in order to get through the whole thing.

I also saw a playthrough of the Game Boy Super Mario Bros 2 Six Golden Coins, which I did have and which I did beat when I was a kid, but it was funny now seeing it, that it was the same design as SNES but on the Game Boy engine.  It was also real neat that every single level was a completely different design from every other level, with its' own villains, world elements, backgrounds, etc.  LOT of stuff for a Game Boy game.  There were even a couple of those same hidden levels.

On my Youtube app I've got a couple playlists of more games I want to watch: the Mass Effects, Arkhams, Grand Theft Auto V... all the big ones.  The trick is finding the time, these are LONG games!

If you do the Batman series, you will be a very busy bee getting through Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Arkham Origins and the forthcoming Arkham Knight.

Update:  The biggest obstacle in my way to watching all these video game videos (outside of time) was the issue of screencaps: I don't have it in me to keep pressing the "screencap" hotkeys over and over again, and the videos are way too big to download.  Well, I just found an app called InstantShot! which takes screencaps automatically, with correct labels, controlled timing, all these things I've been wanting forever.  I just got it last night and I love it already.  I'm screencap-happy!

I hate manually capturing Screenies myself. Sounds like the ultimate time saver you got there.

Alien: Isolation Review (IGN)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kc1MwlTwv3E

I've never had a problem with Ryan's reviews and this is his opinion and he's entitled to it. The game isn't even out yet, so naturally I can't say anything about the game play. But I find it somewhat troubling that he would give the game a horrible rating of 5.2 or whatever it was. I've never seen such a low rating game giving by IGN. They are notorious these days for giving "less than stellar" games a good grade. Most other sites that have the game for review are averaging around 8 out of 10, which is what I was expecting. Although Gamespot gave it a 6. I'm gonna wait to see what the consensus is of paying costumers, not those that get the game for free, before I make up my mind on getting the game or not.

Regardless of rating, it looks pretty cool.  Except for the people, though I don't imagine they last very long anyways.

Spoiler warning, but here's 10 minutes of scenes from the opening of the game... cut down,  of course, I'm hoping that the actual game doesn't start to abruptly.  It's off-putting the way it's done.

But man oh man, does it look like the movie!  I can't wait to see the Nostromo expansion pack with the original cast.

I actually watched a little bit today on Twitch. But I ended up turning it off about a few minutes in....not because it sucked, but spoilers. I will be getting this game for sure. When? I dunno.

It sounds like this game would be hard to spoil because it's so freaking random.  The Alien WILL kill you, it just depends on when and where.

It's not so much 'story' that will spoil it. I want to discover the environment on my own. Exploring is going to be the best thing about the game for me.
