I have been following Ultimate Classic Rock's 'On this Date' rememberance of all things music related for a while now. It's fun to read these and relive them if they happened when I was around. Never really thought to start a thread on this to share with you guys. Figured you wouldn't really get anything out of them to the same effect that I do. Anyway, enough is enough. Decided to make the thread once and for all and what better way to kick things off by dedicating the opening post to my good buddy Mac. Hope you enjoy. Michael McDonald for the win!!!  ;D It's crazy to be able to say that I remember when these episodes original aired. I was and will always be a big fan of What's Happening.

Okay, seriously, f*ck that stupid framing screen thing people use on Youtube to fool the software.

I don't know what the deal is with that, but that has been a thing for the past few years that I've noticed and it seems to be with shows like What's Happening, The Jefferson's and other 70's shows. Not sure if the intent is to make it less desirable to download because you get that odd frame job and more incentive to buy the DVD Sets instead.

It looks like a way to avoid takedown notices, the automatic software tat looks for copyrighted content can't see those frames yet.

How old were you when you watched this?

I remember it so well. I was torn. So glad to see the Doob's make a television appearance, because I wanted more people to know who and what they do, but at the same time, it was the Michael McDonald years.

Y a know, I always thought of all shows, why this combination. It just now hit me. Michaels soulful sound was surrounding the group. I still think it's a weird combo, but yet I get it.

Thanks for posting. Have not seen that for a very long time.

Good thread too. I scan The classic rock site every day.

Man, there has been a lot of death annoucements. Too many to post.

Don't know how old I was, but I was definitely still in elementary school.

56 Years Ago: Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper Killed in Plane Crash (http://ultimateclassicrock.com/buddy-holly-richie-valens-big-bopper-killed-in-plane-crash/)

If it wasn't for UCR, I wouldn't know anything happening day to day in Rock History. Haven't heard anyone else mention this at all.

25 Years Ago: Del Shannon, ‘Runaway’ Singer, Commits Suicide (http://ultimateclassicrock.com/del-shannon-commits-suicide/)

My Del Shannon story is somewhat bittersweet. I had gone to Disneyland on a lark with some friends (we always could get in for free as we had connections) and on this one particular night that we went, they had some sort of 'Oldies but Goodies' concert at Videoplolis which was a huge dance "club" for dancing. On the bill itself, the headliner was Del Shannon. Anyway, there were a few singers on the bill and it was getting late. The other guys wanted to leave and I said I'm not going anywhere until he comes out and performs. I WANT to hear Runway!! They didn't have a choice. They couldn't leave me there and were stuck.

Del came out did his set and finished it with Runaway and it was electric! There was so much energy in that venue from the band to the crowd and my friends that wanted to leave were into it and I could tell they were grateful they stayed, even if they never told me personally. Well, it was about a month (maybe 2) when I heard that he killed himself and whenever talk comes up about Del or I hear one of his songs, I always think about that night. My word to you is NEVER take for granted something that's right in front of you. Never assume that you will get another chance later. I'm glad I put my foot down that night because I even told them this might be my only time to see him and unfortunately, I was right. Just thought I'd share that story with you peeps.

Wise words my friend about living in the moment.

Tell those you love... Tell them today

Very cool you gotto see Del.

Whatever band I end up with, cross fingers, I've always wanted Runaway to be a core song.

That would be a great song for any list. Curious to know what your Set List contains. By that I mean what are the songs that you would hope could be included in your sets with whatever band you end up with.

100 lives lost. I forgot it was that huge of a tragedy. I can’t imagine what Russell must feel. I’m not sure what those who will not forgive him, want from him. Emotions run high from all involved. Especially from family members who had a loss.

Jack Russell's GREAT WHITE Plays To 10 People in 8,500 Seat Venue (http://www.metalinjection.net/video/jack-russells-great-white-plays-to-10-people-in-8500-seat-venue)

This is what Jack has been reduced to. Playing for 10 people is just......sad, especially given how popular Great White was at one time.

At one point I had most of Great Whites stuff. Then I moved on. Still like many of their hits.

Do not like the new Great White sans Jack, and I hear nothing but mediocre stuff about Jack Russell's Great white. The just need to end... Both of them.

I will be stunned if Ritchie Blackmore and Joe Lynn Turner reform Rainbow. I'd love to see it, but I'm not holding my breath on this becoming a reality.
