Title: Foxcatcher (2014)
Post by: Chiprocks1 on April 03, 2015, 08:11:22 pm

I'm probably in the minority here and any other place that reviews movies, but I really didn't like Foxcatcher at all. The movie isn't bad and I actually found the performances from Steve Carell, Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo to be superb. But the subject matter of this eccentric millionaire basically buying a legacy made of nothing was one of the most depressing things ever. The only wrestling I'm a fan of is the fake kind that WWE has entertained me for years. That's it. That's the extent of my wrestling knowledge. I couldn't name one Olympic wrestler if my life depended on it. So, this true story was new to me. Never heard anything about it until tonight.

As much of a struggle the movie was to get through, I was fascinated by who this John E. du Pont was. I stayed with the movie because I wanted to hear the reasons for what his issues were and this is where the movie fails big time. We see how odd this man is and eventually the murder he commits, but there is nothing beyond that. Even in the epilogue credits we don't get any information. I shouldn't have to go online to do research to get the answers this movie should have provided. Also, the movie has no resolution at all. A big no-no in my book. As great as the performances are from the 3 leads, I can not and will not recommend this at all. Definitely a Skip.
