The Americans (Season 1)

I have been hearing a lot of great things regarding The Americans for the past couple of years, but I just never had time to work it into my schedule....until now. Going into Season 1, in my head I thought it was going to be one thng, only to find out it was something completely opposite. I guess avoiding as much spoiler content will have one creating something diiferent, which I did. I thought the show was about American's living in Russia, posing as Russian's, spying for the United States. It's not. It's the other way around. I also thought the married couple were going to be portrayed as having the perfect relationship, doing what they were born to do and getting to do it together. Not even close.
These two things are in fact better than I had imagined. I've always been curious how these arranged "marriages" work in selling their 'Cover'. I've just never been able to wrap my head around Couples that willing have kids to further their agenda and in The American's, this is a major plot point. Kerri Russell and Matthew Rhys are fantastic as the Russian Duo that have American -born kids. Their relationship is far from perfect as she is all about the mission and he is wavering because he wants to do right by their kids.....even if they don't know about their big secret. Season 1 was a great thrill ride. Bonus points for having Margo Martindale in the mix as their handler. Highly recommend this as a Rent.
