Figma Archetype Review

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iufrYoaNurk

So, about a week or so ago, one of the artist I follow on YouTube released a Product review for Figma Archetype (it's the small figure in the above video) and I immediately was interested in this because of the insane amount of poseable positions you can get them in. Now I don't know if Figma (which I never heard of until this video) released these Toys with Artists in mind or they just wanted to offer something different that doesn't exist from other toy manufacturers. Regardless if they did or didn't, this is something I'm looking into getting as I'm sick of drawing from photos as well as drawing from real life because everything is just too pedestrian. Now this video was the jumping on point where I started to research their entire line as well as their direct competitor Mafex. Of the two companies, Figma is regarded by most collectors as the superior product with higher quality figures, but I can't discount what Mafex has that Figma doesn't have. I was originally going to buy the figure as seen in the video, but now I want character specific models to draw from. It's just a question of who and what I want to draw, one that I will draw a lot of like Batman, Hulk, Ironman, Spidey, etc.... Maefx has a Wonder Woman and Armour Batman Figure coming out soon, based on BVS movie and they look amazing. Also cool about Figma's line are the Manga inspired characters, which I'm also eyeing as well.

Figma MOTOKO KUSANAGI Ghost in the Shell Figure Review

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIPESzXRmNk&list=WL&index=10

I have my eye on getting the Ghost In The Shell figure, which looks great. I love how each character comes with a lot of different assortments of guns, wigs, multiple hands and faces that you can just pop off and replace and create so many variations which is something I want as an artist.

Here's a Dark Knight from Mafex which looks great and is something I'm considering buying as well.

Well, my research took me further than I thought it would go and I discovered S.H. Figuarts DX Body Set and came across this Male and Female Figure Set that destroys Figma in a BIG WAY. This version looks damn good. Way better Sculpts on both figures and look at all the hand options it comes with as well as the accessories. Yeah, this will be my first purchase. I was set to get Figma's Archetype, but after seeing Figuarts DX Body Set, they are getting my money. It retails for $60 bucks each and is set for a mid-April 2016 release. I can't wait.

I dig Figarts (they do great sentai and toku figures) but I've never bought any.  I was close, I was heavily considering the Figarts Kamen Rider W but for the cost, I decided to go the extra mile and get the awesomely overloaded SIC figure instead.  I believe I boasted about that.  And years later, it's... in the box, in a bag, in the space behind my bed, because I don't have room to display it.

I remember you gushing over them in another thread, but I don't remember you making mention of it being posable to the extent of Figma's figures.

They're absurdly posable... and come with so many extra accessories (which is part of the reason they're still in the box, some of them are less than a centimeter long).

I don't have a Figarts to physically compare it to, though.  But the SICs are lacking for nothing.

Have you considered 3D printing these bad boys? Printers are getting pretty amazing lately. Then again, it might be hard to match these factory products.

And you could be like Wallowitz and spend a $1000 to home print out figurines of themselves.

Ok, maybe not such a great idea.

I don't think it would come anywhere close to what the figures are and the biggest thing about it are the hinges and ball joints that allow for all the different poses you can get which I don't see a 3D printer being able to duplicate on par with.

Ah, like I said, the tech is advancing faster than people think.

At work, I print jointed parts.

Here's an an example of very tight tolerances...

The other real science is the right material.

But ya, certain things just make sense to buy factory made.

S.H. Figuarts | Body Kun DX Set Figure Review

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzyeG9y2yME

This review just dropped this morning. Looks to be the first one anywhere. The figure looks way better than I thought it would. I checked the site that I have a pre-order with and it's still labeled as such. I talked to customer service and she says they have not arrived to their location yet. So, still waiting......

S.H. Figuarts DX Body Touch & Try

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FGoMIj--cM

Another video, this one actually showing both Male and Female. I like that the Female version is smaller than the Male. It would be easy for the company to just make both the same size which would look odd.

Figma | Archetype Next at the 2016 Winter Wonder Festival

Looks like Figma is releasing Series 2 of the Archetype line. I really dig that the facial features are more pronounced and the muscles have more definition. It's more anatomically correct. Hell, they even have toes! With that said, I think the joints look awful. There is no need for that much separation. Hopefully these are just prototypes and that they will fix this issue. I can't imagine anyone being happy with that, inside and outside of the company. If they correct this problem, I'd be inclined to check these out when they drop in November. For the time being, I'm sticking with S.H. Figuarts DX Set that I'm still waiting to be shipped out to me.

S.H.Figuarts DX Body Set - Stop motion review

Okay, now this was fun to watch. I will say this is the best way to do an Unboxing / "Review" of a product. A+ for creativity on the part of the reviewer.

Use it for references....from multiple angles and POV's. I like the amount of props it comes with out of the box, but I'm hoping there is a company, or a person that makes additional props that I can use specifically with these figures which would open up the world even more.

Like how there's a cottage industry of people who make weapons and so on for LEGO?

I don't collect LEGO's, so I don't know what is out there. But based on what you're saying, I think it's the same thing that I'm looking for. I've searched online but I haven't found anyone that does props specifically for S.H. Figuarts Figures.
