Hahaha. That's awesome that it comes with mini arcade games like shooting ducks using the strings on your guitar. This is just a bonus as I'm already down to buying this when it comes out on release day.

Gimme!!

Yeah they've talked a little bit about the mini games but haven't really demoed them. I've not touch RB seriously for a really long time and am really looking forward to this.

Once RB pulled the plug (Fender that is), I kind of lost my spark for that game. How can I stay enthusiastic about something that seems to have been driven into the ground. They had all the momentum in the world and then........Scrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeech!! BOOM!!!!

Anyway, I'm so down for this game because I can used my existing guitars that fit like a glove in my hands.

So, are you still keeping up with your practice on your own?

Post by: Umainebearman on September 30, 2011, 08:15:19 pm
I haven't seriously sat down with it for a while. I had to stop my lessons because 1 I didn't have time and 2 it was seeming like a waste of money due to me not having time to practice. I did however invest in a highly regarded home program so I can jump in when I can and did just from the first lesson in that felt like I accomplished something. just from that I would probably recommend it for most anybody starting up.

Regarding that link you posted above, one of the questions I kept asking over on the RB3 forum and toward the Devs was about future add-ons such as FX Racks (i.e. Pedals). So it's really cool knowing that we are getting this from the ground up in Rocksmith and it's only going to expand even further when this becomes a sure-fire hit, and I really don't see how it won't be.
Title: Re: Rocksmith
Post by: Umainebearman on September 30, 2011, 08:37:58 pm
The only problem I can see that this game could run into is that people perception of it will be 1 of 2 things. Either a teaching tool or just another rhythm game. in that respect it will be up to the reviewers and the ad campaign to get across what it really is. Also the requirement to have a real guitar handy could deter alot of people even though there is an Epiphone bundle available. The face that the software has an amp feature that turns your home theater system into a very large amp is going to be the bane of neighbors everywhere.

This is a partial list of songs to get you off and running once you fire up Rocksmith. The full list can be found here. (http://rocksmith.ubi.com/rocksmith/en-US/tracklist/index.aspx) I wasn't expecting a strong list to begin with. The makers of the game have to wait and see how successful Rocksmith turns out before they can start shelling out the big bucks for the bigger hit songs. I'm hopeful that this game is a hit so we can get a lot more of the better songs as soon as possible.

Well if all the people that like it on Face book they'll have atleast 163,000 copies sold. I can safely say most of the announced songs and bands I've never heard of but thats what these music games do really well, they introduce different music to a new audience. I may just pre order this at my local GS and get it with BF3 and then find a nice shiny coin to flip to see what one I play first. BWAHAHAHA! No it'll be BF 3. I may just use this on my 360 in my bedroom which I used to practice in anyway and I have a chair to plop down in.

Whenever I see a real musician like that play a music "game" I just remember the guys from Rush being set up with Rock band and trying to play one of there own songs. I would love to see Alex do a Rush song on this. Is obvious that a simplified version confuses people that really know how to play the whole song. Sort of like throwing an expert rb or GH player into an easy or medium setting of that game. They know the rhythm and timing and having a quarter or 8th of the amount of the notes even though they are in time throws everything off.

Dawn Of The Chordead looks to be the best of the Guitarcade games in that it can really speed up the process of learning basic, simple chord shapes to more advanced shapes while keeping your practicing entertaining. Man I wish I had something like this back when I first picked up a guitar. It would have made those long practice sessions more bearable for me.

Bah!!

Well I spent a little time with Rocksmith tonight and really like it. Of course this is coming from an extreme beginner. I read Joystiqs review and the guy hated just about everything about it except the tech that is the guitar chord. He of course was "an accomplished" guitar player but thats really not what this game is targeting. I did notice though there where a couple times it wasn't detecting the right fret I was on it was telling me to be on 5 and I was and the arrows where directing me to move my fingers as if I where on the 6th fret. Maybe I was planing to close to the 6th, but thats where you are always told to finger the fret, closest to the next fret and not in the middle. I'll have to do some experimenting to see. Right now though I gotta go be Batman.
Title: Re: Rocksmith
Post by: Wilson on October 22, 2011, 12:14:50 pm
The 5th fret 6th fret thing could be that your slightly bending the string which will make it closer to a A# not an A (on the top string). That's a pretty common beginner mistake.

Anyway, I bought this today and have a bit of a hard time with the timing. It's funny because the first song is satisfaction which is one of the very first songs I learned to play. I had a hard time not playing notes that I know are supposed to be there. It also kind of threw me off that they have you playing songs on the first two strings up to fret 5 then BAM on one of the encores you're up at the 12th fret. Probably wouldn't be a problem if I knew the songs, but a couple I've never heard before in my life.

All in all it's a big step up from rock band. Hopefully this will get the legions of gamers out there to learn a real instrument.
Title: Re: Rocksmith
Post by: Chiprocks1 on October 23, 2011, 06:33:48 am
I figured there would be those select few that would say the game is garbage because they are "seasoned pros" at playing guitar. I'm really not all that concerned about that. I think that as long as it's enjoyable and keeps anyone playing and practicing their instrument, it's successful in my eyes. So, I fully intend on picking up a copy of the "game" for myself.

Question, how do you guys navigate through the menus to select whatever it is that you want to try out? In Rock Band, using the Fender Squire itself was a controller, so you could nav that way. But here, with a real guitar, I can't picture it. Unless of course you just keep your Xbox controller nearby and use that. Duh.
Title: Re: Rocksmith
Post by: Wilson on October 23, 2011, 11:00:47 am
Yeah, I had to keep a controller handy. I just bought the stand alone game and am using a regular guitar. Maybe the one that comes with has some buttons?

Like you said, any tool that keeps you interested and practicing is a win in my eyes.

As far as I know there are no buttons on the guitar that comes in the bundle. Just a regular guitar for those that don't already own one.

Post by: Umainebearman on October 24, 2011, 04:23:37 pm
I've only unlocked 1 mini game so far, that being Ducks, and its highly **** addictive and highly **** useful! its just a bunch of columns representing all the frets and the strings at the bottom. The strings are differentiated by the colors of the 360s controller button so you don't have to worry about not knowing what string to strum. Ducks come up from the bottom on a fret and you have to strum the proper string on the right fret to fire a shot and hit the duck. The quicker you get the shot off and hit the duck the more points and time you get. It teaches speed, accuracy, and shifting, simple concept that works well.

I spent most of my time the other day practicing riffs to Satisfaction, actually just the intro. I increased my level from 56% accuracy to 86%. I did however find myself "cheating" by using my Rock Band slide technique which is in real guitar technique a no no. Instead of training my pinky to get that furthest down fret I was sliding my hand down and using my ring finger. Its definitely not the most efficient way to do it but it got the desired effect, leveling me up and getting the riff right.

The bundled guitar is kind of a mini where it has 1 pick up and there not much to it. however it is a real guitar and isn't like the RB squire that has controller buttons.

Last week I got real lucky and now find myself with 2 guitars. A guy at work was getting ready to move and was selling all his stuff. So I went over and took a look at what he was selling and the only thing that caught my eye was this barely used Epiphone Les Paul Special II. Jet black and custom gold pick ups and tuning pegs with gold trim. I went home to get my little amp and tried it out with what little I can do and it sounded great and was in perfect shape with just a couple of small blemishes. I was afraid to ask how much but apparently he was really in need of money, $75. I almost felt guilty..... almost.

I forgot to post here earlier when I saw it, but 2 days ago I went to Amazon to see if there was a price drop and saw that the $80 price tag had jumped to $107. I was scratching my head in how a product just released with the MSRP could soar that high, that fast. This morning, the price is back down. Actually, it's 2 bucks cheaper than it's original tag.

Rocksmith E3 Announcement - Guitar & Bass

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jz0WbgBIOHk

I knew that Rocksmith would eventually have to add Bass to the mix if they want to stay competitive and have a leg up on it's nearest competitor BandFuse (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/video-games/bandfuse-rock-legends/msg6244/#msg6244). Now I have to track two games, both of which offer something different in each one. I do wonder if the Bass is a separate game altogether, as in having to buy a disc called Rocksmith II or something.

Rocksmith 2014 Edition - E3 2013 Floor Report

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWRfbd2ebEs

Interesting segment. Didn't care for the Carney that was hyping the game, but the added AI does seem to be a stroke of genius in closer to the possibility of jamming with a fictional band that can adapt to your playing. But I'm still waiting to see what the core game play is going to be and if they got rid of their version of "tab" and streamlined it more toward traditional tab. This looks good so far.

Okay, got my feet wet with the game. I'ts actually pretty fun. Much better than I thought it would be and definitely more intuitive than Rock Band 3 Pro Mode. So, played for about an hour in Rocksmith, which threw a few songs at me, the Ducks Arcade game, etc....Just have to wrap my head around the highway. I'm use to Rock Bands highway , so RS is throwing me off at times. But I picked it up faster than expected.

I'm really getting a kick out of playing Rocksmith. It's not without faults mind you. But it's doing the one thing that I wouldn't do on my own and that's learning different types of songs. It has taken me some time to figure out the layout because there is a lot of sh*t under the hood. But in a nutshell, playing in Career Mode, the game takes you on tour and at each stop, you are given a song to perform. It's basic at first, but the more notes to start to nail, the more they start throwing at you. If you don't do well enough to qualify, at the conclusion of the song, they give you a few recommendations. The one that I find the most helpful is the Riff Repeater where you can work out parts of the song that you are having problems with. Once you get it down, you move onto the next part.

At any time, you can jump back into the song and see the progress you've made. Like I said, this is fun and teaching me a new way of doing things instead of fixating on one style and then trying to be the 'fastest' guitar slinger out there. Love the fact that the sound generated in the game is my sound and not some prerecorded sound that is "triggered" by hitting the buttons at the right time as seen in Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

My son had Rockband or whatever that faux music machine was. unfortunately, that's what I'm visualizing.

IGN Reviews : Rocksmith Game Review

Here's a review for you Mac. All you need to know is that whatever real Guitar you have on hand, you plug directly into the console. What you play on your end is what you hear in the "game". I don't like calling it a game, because it really is a in-house 'music teacher'.

OK, I see, it's an evolution forward with the guitar playing and tying it into game play.

This is not a game, but Roland rolled out  'practice' software (V-Drum Friend Jam) that ties your E-drum playing with their song list, that then will rate you based on many variables. It also will place you in a totem pole based on the numbers you get with people from all around the world.

It's pretty impressive for improving your technique. This video below shows Chris Blundell demo a rock song... the video just stops, but after the song, the results come up.

Exactly. It's the same concept, just different instruments and software with the same objective at the end of the day.

Oh, I forgot to mention my views on adding Drums to Rocksmith. Even though the original version of the game doesn't have Drums included with  it, it's only a matter of time before they turn this into a full 'Band' experience, much like the way that Rock Band did. One thing I do know is that Rocksmith 2014 Edition will have both Guitar and Bass included with the game at launch. I figured that the next release after that will have Drums and my guess, Keyboards as well. I just hope that they accommodate a full size Keyboard and not the half ass version that was in Rock Band where you are playing parts on one hand instead of two.

Getting back the drums, I hope that RS follows suit by using real E-Drums that people already own rather than using the type of set that Rock Band had made specifically for the game. This way they can keep in line of using real instruments and not "plastic toys".

Be sure to check back often as this thread will fill up pretty damn fast. I'm also going to add Bass Riffs as well, but I won't get around to playing them for a bit though.

Since I'm trying think on top of my head what riffs to add, I'm forgetting a lot. So feel free to remind me of some riffs that belong on the list. Thanks.

Ok so there's already a sticky on this topic, but seeing as it is now a little out of date with the improvements to the Song Creator Toolkit I thought I'd post one, and someone suggested I post a nice plain english guide with idiotproof steps.
This guide assumes you have Rocksmith installed on your PC (most people will have the Steam version so I will use that for folder references, if you do not have the Steam version, when I say C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Rocksmith\ you will need to browse to c:\program files\Ubisoft\Rocksmith[?]).

1. Download the latest version of the Song Creator Toolkit
2. Extract the contents (this can be placed anywhere, I use ..\Rocksmith\Content\SongCreator\ for convenience as I'm usually opening it after copying a new song into the content folder, but we'll get to that later)
3. Launch the Song Creator Toolkit (browse to the folder where you extracted the Song Creator Toolkit and double click RocksmithTookitGUI.exe)
4. Download your songs from the Packages section of the forum  (some songs will only provide the .dat file, this is the file we need, some will be packaged inside .rar files and you will need to extract the gooey .dat file goodness from inside)
5. Copy your .dat files into the content folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Rocksmith\Content\)
6. Go back to the Song Creator Toolkit and select the 'DLC Packer/Unpacker' tab
7. At this point you need to select a song in the 'Update - App ID' dropdown menu, and it NEEDS to be a song you legitimately own. If you were lucky enough to download the free christmas package you will be able to select one of them, if not you will need to purchase at least one song legitimately through Steam. The go-to song at the moment is Blink 182 - Damn It, you can purchase this to save some time, as many songs will already have the next step completed and will be playable immediately.
...so you have your legitimate song, you have your custom songs, and you are sick of reading this crap.....well that's convenient cause I'm sick of writing it....
8. Once you have a song selected in the 'Update - App ID' dropdown click 'Choose DLC' and browse to your \Rocksmith\Content\ folder. You can select multiple .dat files here, to select more than one hold CTRL and click on each custom .dat file* (there will be one or more labelled RS001SONG0000###, don't touch them, they are the legitimate DLC)
9. With all your custom songs selected click the Open button and wait for the 'APP ID update is complete.' message. If you are doing a large number of songs in one go it may take some time and there is no progress bar, so be patient.
Done, launch Rocksmith and play your new tunes. Repeat from step 5 to add more tracks and voila!
*If you get an application error after the Ubisoft logo you probably have a corrupted .dat file. You will need to remove all custom songs you have imported since the game last ran successfully from the content folder and re-import them one by one, testing the game each time until you isolate the culprit and then re-download that file. For this reason I strongly recommend importing a maximum of 3 or 4 songs at a time.

If you are getting audio lag try the rocksmith.ini file changes mentioned here. I get near perfect audio latency with just that tweak.

Gotta post the step by step in how to create custom made songs. It could come in handy one day when I want to do one for every damn KISS song they have!

Guide: How to put your custom DLC in your Xbox360 (http://forums.smithyanvil.com/viewtopic.php?id=1311)

As much as I would like to have Custom Rocksmith Songs to play on my Xbox, the idea of tampering with my console to make it JTAG friendly is just not worth the time or effort. Beyond potentially wrecking your console and rendering it useless, you will get a lifetime ban from Xbox Live. I enjoy my Online / Multiplayer experience. Can't risk losing that service.

They have to market it as a "game" to get that demographic that was into Guitar Hero and Rock Band. But underneath the hood, this is straight up a teaching tool first and then a "karaoke" machine 2nd as a center piece for you and your friends when they come over. Yes, they have Career mode in Rocksmith which basically has you traveling all over the world, starting out in small venues to play in bars and whatnot. You have set list that you perform and every song, every venue, everything that you do unlocks more and more leading your way to playing Arenas and then eventually Stadium shows. That's the "game" aspect of it. The rest as they say....is gravy.

The note highway does take a bit of getting use to, but it's not as hard or as complicated as it looks. Most of the stuff they show in the video is usually Master Mode, so you see all these notes flying at you super fast and it came look daunting. The thing about that though is that you can manually set the difficulty level to your liking. The lower the difficulty, the few the notes you will see coming at you and vice versa.

For existing guitar players like myself, the best thing about this is that we are basically getting our own in-house band with access to tons of songs that otherwise would never get the chance to be played if you don't have a band on hand to jam with you.

Rocksmith 2014 Edition -- Learn to jam with Session Mode

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=BPFMDdMpttw

Songs from some of my favorite artist is obviously a draw toward wanting the game, but it's Session Mode that hooked me in from the start. I wish the video was a bit longer to tide me over till release day....two weeks away.

Very interesting indeed. I guess when you really think about it, music is very structured, in particular mathematical kind of way.

How else would the AI drummer or bass even begin to know what to play?
Title: Re: Rocksmith
Post by: Chiprocks1 on October 10, 2013, 01:22:46 pm
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea of how AI musicians work. It's fascinating nonetheless. I will of course jump immediately into my favorite songs that are on disc, but I see myself spending way more time in Session Mode working out riff and song ideas. I'm curious if there will be a record function with Session Mode to capture those 'lightning in a bottle' moments. Don't want to lose anything that really stands out as inspired.

Picked up my copy of Rocksmith 2014 this morning. I have been messing around with it for the past couple of hours and all I can say is that I am incredibly impressed with the upgrades to the overall design. The biggest plus this version has going for it is in how quickly the "game" loads. You can fly all over the place from songs to riff repeater to Guitarcade. Wherever you want to go, it's almost instantaneous with no delay at all. This is HUGE as it keeps you in the zone going from Point A to Point B.

One problem I am having is the with in-game tuner. Standard tuning is fine, but when it comes to alternative tuning's, it's not registering or "hearing" that my guitar is in tune. Not sure what the deal is. I left a note over at Rocksmith and hopefully they have some suggestions to remedy this.

So, the two songs I have been working on are The Kinks You Really Got Me and The Ramones Blitzkrieg Bop. What is funny is that I have never bothered to learn either of these songs on my own at any time. So, I was kind of surprises at how insanely fun both songs are to play. Fun yes, but it's brutal. My hands are aching. The chord progressions, as "simple" as they may be, are giving me a true work out. Not even close to being 100% on either songs. More like 30% and 20% respectively.

I messed around inside Session Mode. It is somewhat daunting. A lot of controls to mess around with. Still need to get the hang of how best to approach is. Well, back to the game now........

I remember getting guitar hero think it was guitar hero but I was surprised at what songs were fun to play and even though I knew them maybe wasn't a huge fan but if you're going to the levels and you start playing the songs that maybe would never try they actually end up being some of your favorites off of the album so its cool it will take you out of your comfort zone and  probably trying things that you wouldn't normally try like the two songs you mentioned sounds very cool have fun with it!  sorry on my phone doing voice recognition typing. So that upper portion just ended up being one huge run on sentence with a few typos. I don't have the energy to go **** it but I think you get my point. Sometimes with these games songs that you now but would never learn on guitar end up being some of your favorites to play and learn. I think that's a very cool thing.

That's what I love about both Rocksmith and Rocksmith 2014. It's that variety that keeps things fresh. I never want to go back to playing the way I use to and that was all about being the fastest player. Satch, Vai, Morse. It does get old. I forgot to mention about the game, when you first boot up the game, it will ask you if you want to play guitar or bass. I chose guitar. Duh. After that it will ask you if you want to play lead or rhythm. I chose rhythm for the reason I just mentioned above. So the game takes you down the road of songs that are more rhythm based as oppose to lead based. I love this game. Most likely will be playing on through the night. Have to give my hand a few breaks throughout to keep it from cramping because as you play the songs, you level up pretty fast when you are hitting the notes they throw at ya.

Kiss takes a night or two to nail...they sound so simple and they are...but the rhythm is everything.
Title: Re: Rocksmith
Post by: Chiprocks1 on October 22, 2013, 08:32:25 pm
Well it's not that. The game starts out throwing you one note at a time and the more you nail it, the more notes they start sending your way. That's where Riff Repeater comes in. I need to go in there, adjust the speed as well as the master notes. What's cool is that I can pick any section of the song to work on at any time. This will be my song (Rock and Roll All Nite) of the night and on into tomorrow no doubt. As fun as Every Breath is, it's really complicated with the chord changes and nailing the palm mutes and keeping it in time. I did decent on this one given the fact that I had never played the song before at any time.

I've gotten a much better handle on the layout of the game and let me tell ya, it's insanely addictive. It's actually pretty clever in how the entire thing is set up by sending you on Missions, it literally keeps you glued your guitar and TV so that you can see what happens next. I looked up at the clock and saw that I had played / practiced for 90 minutes with no break. Sh*t man, I don't even play GTA V more than 20-30 minutes at a time!!!!! My hands feel like they could punch a wall!!!

A very unusual achievement that I noticed yesterday was that I had to jam in Session Mode anywhere from midnight to 3am to bag the achievement score. It's actually called the 'Waking Up The Neighbors' achievement. Haha. Well, I just got that. Now the Mission I had to do was keep playing non-stop for 10 minutes in Session Mode using the Pentatonic Minor scale. You would think that its no problem. Easy. Wrong. You try noodling for 10 minutes where you're just jamming in the same scale the entire time. I actually kept it up for 12 minutes before my fingers and my brain couldn't take any more. Fingers bleeding. Suck it Vai!

I loooooooooooooove this "game". Should really call it a tool, but then again, the Guitarcade section is in fact games where you practice a slew of techniques in 80's style arcade games. One of my favorites already is Return To Castle Chorded. Man, I really wish I had something like this back in the day when I first picked up a guitar. F*cking slow-ass technology progress!

Last night I worked on Mary Jane's Last Dance. I always liked the song, but playing it, man it just elevates Mike Cambell's and Tom Petty's rhythm playing even more. There are changes that I never knew from the song. So naturally, the changes as simple as they are on paper, are pretty daunting when forced to play at tempo the first time around. Well, the first 20 times around. Haha.

Today been working in Sessions Mode as well as Misson Lessons. The Session Mode goal is that I have to play 20 minutes. The bonus to this particular sessions is that it's a 'Heavy Metal' band. Looooooooove it. But damn man, my fingers are raw meat. I know I gotta step back and give it time to build up but like I said, it's addictive and I don't like even putting my guitar down for more than an hour.

No pics man. It's a beat up piece of sh*t Yamaha. I really wish I didn't sell off all my stuff. Only thing I still have is my Chandler Pre-Amp and Rack FX. Still have a 4 Track Recorder, but that's another matter all together. Not sure what song I will play next. There are so many on-disc that I kinda want to sample each one and see what stands out as 'must learn right away' songs.

Looking at the last post in this thread, it has been almost a year to the day since I last played Rocksmith. There was a few months devoted to BandFuse, but we all know how they ended up. TOAST. Anyway, I subscribe to Rocksmith on YouTube, and even though I haven't played RS is a long time, I do keep up with what new songs they are adding to the menu and a couple of days ago I saw that they had an Arena Rock Pack that included Dio, Poison, Autograph and Winger and one other song that is eluding me at the moment. I love all the songs, but I chose to download Autograph's Turn Up The Radio song as a stand alone (also cheaper that way to). I went with this song in particular because I loved playing the song back when it came out. I could also play the solo note for note. But it has been years and years since I last played it and thought this would be a fun song to relearn and have the band actually playing behind me. I also grabbed Survivor's Eye Of The Tiger as well.

Why Your Favourite Band isn’t on Rocksmith (http://theherofeed.com/5175/why-your-favourite-band-isnt-on-rocksmith/)

Was searching today for any kind of update regarding some of the bands that I want on Rocksmith. Pretty good read about the most requested bands and why they won't be seen in the game anytime soon. I'm still hopeful that AC/DC will be forthcoming. I think now is the best time to reignite the fan-base and get new ones with their recent release of Rock or Bust. I have money left in my Xbox account and need to spend it before the expiration date. There are no refunds so I can't just pocket the cash. Gonna spend the rest on a few songs for Rocksmith. Now, just gotta scroll the menu and see what catches my eyes.....and ears. As for the above link, it's a couple of years old. So, there may be progress on a handful artists.

With money in my MS account about to expire, I just paid for Detroit Rock City by KISS. I have enough money for one more song. I'm on the fence of what to get next. I was thinking of getting Heaven's On Fire by KISS. Love the song, but it looks to be a bit too easy in the game. No challenge. The other song I'm leaning toward is Painkiller by Judas Priest. The main riff looks like a good workout, but one that I could pick up pretty quickly. It's the Solo that's going to prove to be challenging. It's going to take a lot of free time to get through it note for note and I don't know if I'm gonna have that much free time. So, it's an easy song that I can play all the way through Vs. Awesome Riff, but incomplete song for the time being. Ack!!!!

I ended up getting Painkiller today. But what was ironic is that I was in the middle of playing bass instead of guitar all day. I wanted to just play bass today and mix things up. So, I have yet to play guitar parts on Painkiller, but I did play bass and it killed me. Both my arms were fatigued due to tremolo picking for the duration of the song. Gonna need more practice for sure.

Working out of Riff Repeater which allows you to work on whatever section you want per song. So, been spending time with the opening Riff for Painkiller, playing at 70% and my hand is cramping up big time. It may be "70%", but it's nowhere near the speed of the actual song. I have a long way to go to nail this. Gonna spend all day with this, taking the necessary breaks to keep my hand from over cramping.

I just bought the PC version of the game today and ran across some issues that need to be fixed in order for the game to play properly. Archinvg these links for future references for myself or anyone else that may need help. These issues seem to be a release-wide problem and something that's never been fixed from the games creator.

Okay, now for a bit of commentary about my thoughts and past experiences before and after Rocksmith should you choose to read further. As I mentioned elsewhere, I've been playing guitar since Jr. High School with an extended break when I got into the work place. Around High School, I was actively writing and recording Demos on my little 4-Track Recorder. But since I didn't have access to a Bass player, I went down to my local music store and basically bought the cheapest Bass I could find. Since I wasn't a Bass player and didn't know how to really play it, I wasn't going to spend big money on it. I just needed something that I could lay down tracks for me to record my guitar on. Beyond a a few Stu Hamm VHS tapes I bought, that was the extent of my Bass "knowledge" which wasn't much.

Fast-forward to Rocksmith 2014. I got the "game" because I'm a guitar player, but I knew that you could also play Bass in the game as well, which was a bonus in itself. But I never really bothered to play any of the Bass parts (save for a few times here and there) when I was playing the "game" on the Xbox 360. I stuck with Guitar parts. Duh! Once I finally moved over to PC, I busted out my old Bass and started hitting any song that had a good groove, even songs that I normally wouldn't even give the time of day to (Miley Cyrus anyone?). The list you see above, although "impressive" in the amount of songs I've tackled and nearly mastered on most, if not all, in such a short time frame, there are probably another 20 or so that I had to bail on until I get better accustomed to playing Bass. I won't be playing any RHCP songs for a while, that's for sure.

One thing that really stuck out for me in the past few weeks when moving into Beatles songs to learn is how my admiration for Paul McCartney has gone nuclear. I've always known that the driving force of any Beatles song is his bass playing. But his parts at times seem "simple" so you subconsciously don't really give them much thought. But sitting down and dissecting what he is actually doing is just mind-blowing because a lot of his riffs/parts never repeat the same way. There is always some sort of variation, but he is able to keep the same melody intact in spite of any variation. MIND. BLOWN. Mean Mr. Mustard, Don't Let Me Down, Come Together, Hello Goodbye and Something are just a few songs that sent me running to the hills. But I'm gonna have fun learning these songs for sure.

If you've read this far, my commentary is almost over. I promise. So, getting back to the "game". When you load it up, the Main Menu gives you a few options. You can Learn a Song, which is basically choosing any song you want and rocking out to it note for note. You can go into Session Mode which is a virtual band that actually plays to you instead of the other way around. It's great for improvising and working out original material. There is also Guitarcade which dresses up boring scales and whatnot as 80's style arcade games. It makes tedious practice fun to do. There is also Lessons, which is what it sounds like. You click on that and you have a submenu to choose whatever thing you want to learn, Want to learn chords, click that and a video presentation with an instructor comes up. You want to learn bends? Same thing. Everything from double stops to finger tapping is covered. It's very comprehensive. Now here's the fun thing that I just discovered today. When you load up the "game", you select if you want to play LEAD Guitar, RHYTHM Guitar or Bass. When you have Guitar selected, the lessons deal only with that instrument. But when you select Bass, it's a whole other new batch of video instructions to learn that stayed hidden until I chose Bass and entered Lessons. I've been playing Bass for the pass month and I never bothered to go into Lessons until today to discover that there was new stuff for me to hit. MIND BLOWN. So, that's what I'll be doing the rest of the night.
