Bridge of Spies (2015)

Ya know, when I first heard about Bridge of Spies, and with Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg joining forces again, I just assumed this was going to be another War film, which I was all for given how much I love Saving Private Ryan. You can imagine my surprise while watching the flick that there wasn't anything remotely attached to war. Sure, it happens during the Cold War, but this isn't that kind of film. It starts off as a Courtroom Drama and then ends with Tom's character basically playing a chess game in trying to get a 2 for 1 Soldier swap. There really isn't much action to this at all and yet I was enthralled to see how it all played out because the direction and the performances were so good. Just like Steven, this was the first time I've ever heard about this particular story. I may heard about it in passing, but it never took root for me until now. So this was a nice to learn little bit about this particular history here. As for Steven, this is by far his best film in years. As always, Janusz Kamiński kills it in the visuals and Tom Hanks just gives further proof he is our generations Jimmy Stewart. The film, along with Hanks performance just makes the flick feel like it's from the long forgotten Golden days of Hollywood. I highly recommend this for sure.
