I've been looking forward to checking out Joy because of all the rave reviews and it was the first 20 minutes or so that had me scratching my head, completely bewildered what the f*ck people were smoking to rate this so high. It's not that it was bad, it was because it was a different kind of flick. Imagine if Paul Thomas Anderson and Wes Anderson had a baby, this would be the end result. It's really not until Joy (Jennifer Lawrence) comes up with the idea for her revolutionary Mop does the movie begin to take shape and once it does, it was a Joy to watch. I really enjoyed it a lot. Everything that comes after this really does seem a bit far-fetched and the family dynamic beyond dysfunctional and I had to constantly remind myself that this was in fact a true story. Is the movie perfect as everyone claims it to be? Not even close. But I do give the cast and crew some credit for finishing off strongly after what I think is a very rocky and suspect opening. Worth a Rent.

Mac and I let our feelings be known in the "What Are You Watching" thread (because we don't always feel the need to start a new thread for every single thing we watch), but I'll say it again: this movie is like a good argument for the existence of Kickstarter and IndieGoGo.  You know she'd be on there if this happened today.
