Title: Rio 2016 Summer Olympics
Post by: Chiprocks1 on August 03, 2016, 02:20:21 pm
I love the Olympics and have been patiently awaiting the start to the Rio games, in spite of all the problems befalling the country in trying to meet the requirements. The games officially start this Friday, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that the games actually started today. Well, Woman's soccer started today. Watching the other teams play while waiting for Team USA to begin which is 5:40 p.m. to 9 p.m. United States vs. New Zealand. Bring it on!!

Question: What do I want from the Opening Ceremonies tonight?

Answer: 4 1/2 hours of half-naked Brazilian Chicks dancing and shaking their asses off.

Let the games begin!

 ;D

Honestly, I think the Opening Ceremonies that Rio put on is one of the worst ever. It's like they were sleepwalking through it. It just felt like they made sh*t up as they went along. Granted, I'm use to massive productions that each country puts on, trying to outdo the last one. Rio didn't even come close at all. And the one thing I was waiting for didn't happen until the final 20 minutes and that too sucked. Well, at least I have the games to look forward to.

I watched the very, very beginning and the various fluff. They mentioned the parading of the countries. I knew that may take some time. I saw some interviews of USA athletes in the waiting area and all the dumbf*uckery going on in the background with other athletes. WTF.

So I turned on a movie... Review to come.

Turned back on the opening ceremonies. Still parading folks in. Didn't give one crap about that.

Went to bed

I've been up since the crack of dawn watching whatever sport they have up. Doesn't matter. If it's on, I'm there. Times have changed with each Olympics as they add more and more channels to surf. It's both a blessing and a curse. I love having as many options as I can, but I'm constantly flipping from one channel to the next because I feel like I'm gonna miss something huge. Currently juggling Bravo, NBC, NBCSN and MSNBC. And in an hour, USA Network will start their Olympics coverage. I know there are most likely a few other channels that will host but I haven't seen anything on the TV Guide as of now. Currently settled on Woman's Volleyball. These chicks are hawt!  ;D

Ugh. This is definitely one of the worst breaks I've ever seen. NSFW....or your eyes. You've been warned.

So thanks to Chip to inform me, there is now more than one channel to watch the olympics... Thank gawd.
Cause watching hours of the long distance women's bike race is just plain boring on the single channel.

I did switch to another channel and watched an Olympic sport I've never seen, let alone heard of before.
It was extremely odd. It was on a basketball type court. The ball was about half size of a volleyball, so the guys team would easily just hold the ball and toss it around to each other to try to score against the defensive team. The goal was like a hockey/small soccer net. The guys would not dribble the ball. Just run around with it.

It was just so odd... And we'll seemed made up. It was almost ridiculous. I watched only about 10 minutes before I looked for something else.

Any ideas to what this sport is?

Sounds like you might be describing 'Handball'. Yeah, not the term I would associate with that particular sport since American Handball has to do with a Wall....also called Wallball.

I saw some water polo last night at a bar.  Croatia vs Micronesia.  Actually got a little into it, though I couldn't help wondering about how few people were in the stands.  Were they all just reporters and family members?  Are there **** water polo fanboys?  is there an enthusiastic subculture for water polo with websites with names like "balls deep?"

It also got me thinking "if there's Olympic Water Polo, could there be Olympic Marco Polo?"

What an electric day for Team USA today. There were a lot of things that I was looking forward to watching and everyone delivered in a big way. Katie Ledecky's race was great, but it was the showdown between Michael Phelps Vs. Chad Le Clos that had everyone in the world on the edge of their seats. It was a match 4 years in the making and it was epic in its conclusion. Of course Phelps won....barely. But to add another gold an hour later was just as thrilling. But the night obviously belonged to Team USA Women's Gymnastics. They CRUSHED everyone. It wasn't even competitive given how far ahead they were in point totals leading into today and during the matches.

Lame attempt to deflect. Her argument is weak. There is a reason why she was booed the other night and it has nothing to do with alcohol or pot.

DiRado upsets Hosszu by .06 seconds for 200 backstroke gold

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRYS38zDz2U

Yesterday was another great day for Team USA (in spite of the Woman's Soccer team completing tanking and getting eliminated). But the best moment was and is Maya's epic comeback. Before the race even started, I already gave the Gold Medal to Hosszu given how dominating she has been thus far. There was a moment where after the race was in full effect, that I didn't even think Maya would even get Bronze, let alone Gold. The lead that Hosszu had was just too big and yet, the final 2 laps showed the world never to give up and she pulled off the impossible. It was an amazing comeback. Wow.

Report: Mom says Lochte held up; USOC says he wasn't (http://sports.yahoo.com/news/report-ryan-lochte-held-up-at-gunpoint-in-rio-142146325.html)

So much for security. The biggest issue going into the Rio games, besides the health risk of Zika had to do with crime and sure enough, I've been hearing nothing but stories like this. It's not just athletes, but regular people attending the games being assaulted and robbed when they leave the arena.

So, Kerri Walsh / April Ross rebound tonight to win the Bronze Medal in Beach Volleyball. It wasn't looking too good after the first set. I was concerned, especially after last nights shocking loss that bumped them from the Gold Medal game. Walsh looked horrible last night. She played horrible. It was so unlike her. She was making unforced error after unforced error and I thought tonight was going to be more of the same after losing the first set. But she and April dug down deep and started to play like their former selves. It's not Gold, but at least they are going home with a Bronze. It's better than nothing.

I'm already going through withdrawals. I need my Olympic fix! Ack! Watched the Closing Ceremony last night and it was awful. Rio put on a sh*tty Olympic games. Opening and Closing.....meh. I think Tokyo will put on a much better one for sure. London certainly put on an epic show 4 years ago. Overall, I thought the amount of content we got to watch was pretty solid. A lot of variety, but I wanted even more than what we got. I feel like I still only got to watch maybe 10-15% of the games.

Isn't there a kind of special Olympics coming up in September?

I watched the Men's 6 Man Volleyball. USA vs. Russia and it was amazing. The part I saw, Russia dominated... only slightly but they were on their game.

Just incredible speed and strength. I don't understand why Volleyball is not a major sport. Way more stuff going on then Baseball or Football.

Yeah, that's next month I believe. I only saw one commercial for it....but I'm sure it's in September.
