If you looked in the dictionary for the term "slow burn", Bone Tomahawk would be the epitome of it. This isn't your daddy's western flick. Where most Westerns are all about galloping horses and saloon brawls and gunfights, BT goes in the opposite direction that focuses primarily on the relationship of a posse that's en route to rescue a group of people that have been captured by some otherworldly Indians that seem to possess superhuman traits. I guess the best way to describe this would be Stand By Me mashed up The Unforgiving. Yes, I said Stand By Me since it follows the same plot points to some degree. This is essentially a road trip on foot and when I say 'foot', I mean that in the most tongue-in-cheek way given the fact that the savior of the day happens to be hobbled so severely that watching him walk from one end of the movie to the other is at times torture. He is the ultimate underdog with the most determination ever....all in the effort to recuse his wife. As always, Kurt Russell is fantastic. Matthew Fox actually does a great job in his role, which could have been a throwaway part. Patrick Wilson was solid too. But for me, the real star is Richard Jenkins who is nearly unrecognizable in giving the movie its heart and soul. Props to  S. Craig Zahler artful direction and more importantly, writing a script full of dialogue that actually read and sounded authentic to the time period as well as what people would normally talk about in their situation. None of it felt contrived. Definitely recommend this as a Rent for sure.

Nailed it. Not your daddy's western

The one kill scene was one of more horrific scenes ever.
