Of all the movies I've seen in my life, I went into Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with the lowest possible expectation ever (and that includes Terminator: Genisys). It's weird to have so little enthusiasm for a movie that has Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman in it. But with all the negative reviews from so many people clogging up the internet, how else was I going to go into this movie other than expecting the worst? I even held off watching this for a couple of days as I sat on the DVD trying to convince myself it's not going to suck. Well, I just got finished with BVS and I can say this: It's better than Man of Steel (even though I gave both films 3 Stars). But just because I say that BVS is better, that's not saying much for the film as a whole. This movie is definitely flawed and it starts and ends with Zack Snyder. He absolutely was the wrong choice to direct this.

Let's just jump right into what most people are going to see this movie for: The showdown between Bats and Supes. This is the thing that was hyped up more than anything else. Hell, it's even in the films title: Batman V Superman. So, with that in the back of everyone's mind, you better damn well deliver on that premise. Sadly, it does not. Not only does it fail to deliver on what should have been the primary focus of the film, it doesn't even really gives us a 'wow' moment. I built this confrontation up in my mind to unrealistic heights and because of that, it's not even close to being 'Epic' by any stretch. And even if Snyder were able to pull off that feat and give us something memorable, it was still going to fall flat because the confrontation is so damn short. I mean like really really short. I was somewhat p*ssed out how short it was. The other thing I had issues with was the pacing and a lot of questionable editing choices. It felt like there was a ton of sh*t missing on the cutting room floor. This is a movie that seems to be looking for some direction to take, but never really finds it. I know that there is a Director's Cut that came out or is coming out, but the copy my Library sent me was the regular theatrical version. So I have yet to see if the DC version will rectify any of my issues with the film.

Now onto what I did like. But this is a major plot arc that I wasn't entirely sure was going to happen. If you have yet to see the film and want to remain in the dark, Don't hover your mouse over the Spoiler Box. You have been warned.

SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!

Spoiler (hover to show)

So, with that said, if you're not a comic book fan and just hate these kinds of flicks, you're better off staying clear. If you are however a fan or just want to see a spectacle to satisfy your morbid curiosity of how it all unfolds, then yeah, I'd recommend this as a Rent.  I'm definitely going to see about getting my hands on a copy of the Director's Cut version so that I can see if the flaws existed because of massive cuts or if it was just a victim of weak writing.

This is brilliant: The warehouse fight scene rescored with "Who Da (Bat) Man?" from The Lego Batman movie.
