Creating a new thread geared specifically toward the in's and outs of Recording. I love to see BTS of how other people approach their craft from the simplest of plugging into a PC or to a more robust Studio that covers more than just hitting the Record button. This also includes the art of writing Songs as well.

Half the people in these videos I have been following for the better part of the year. This was fun to see come together. Not a fan of the singing...but the Multi Guitar Solo more than makes up for it.

oh wow...that looks cool!!
hahahaha
this was the guy I discovered today..(not the English kid) but this guy is very clear and concise and makes great videos/

Sending those vids to my Roku. Thanks!

And he looks a little bit like he could be Sly Stallone's third brother!!
We already know from the Norms rare guitar videos that Frank is a big guitar collector. Haha

Great $40 Camera Microphone for Vlogging/Youtube - Movo VXR10 Review
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66NnW4SNtmo
I'm gonna throw these in here since it relates to recording. Rode is the gold standard when it comes to recording audio on DSLR's. So, when a smaller company like Movo comes along and unseats the King...it's a good thing for buyers.

hahahaha
that's so funny. I watched his video!!!
shows how good his thumbnail was....I actually subbed his channel because he seemed cool and I smashed the like for him
and his audio did sound good!!!!!!!!!!

How To Write A SICK Guitar Solo!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJDUfetSMMY&t=0s&list=LLTVgXy5pOO9ff20O1Z1QPMw&index=1
This is one of Stevie T's better vids. The only thing I wished he would have included here was to actually show his Post Processing when splicing all the bits and pieces of the solo into a collective whole. Sure, we all know how he would technically do this in Pro Tools or whatever software he uses.....but it would still be fun to watch his process completely.

Sweet. I'll be saving this for sure!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSoMYqFQfIA&list=LLTVgXy5pOO9ff20O1Z1QPMw&index=3&t=0s
I was hoping that Reverb would do something with Everybody Wants To Rule The World. It's obvious why. Cool breakdown in how all the parts work together as a collective whole.

So this barely counts as a recording studio thing, but I ordered Dropmix on a whim since it was 5p% off on Amazon and just got it in the mail today. Been playing on it for... I don't even know how long, but it is D*MN addictive. It's sort of a card game, you have five sots and various cards that trigger music cues from different songs (vocals, guitar, bass, trumpets, piano, drums, etc) and you can use them to basically DJ on the fly without any pro equipment. It's pretty fun and real easy, my only issue is that there were waayyyyyy too few vocal tracks, things began to feel repetitive pretty quick. I ordered some expansion packs but all five card types are assorted together, you can't JUST get vocals, or more trumpets, or anything you might have an affinity for, and that kinda sucks. It would be nice to... I could pipe the audio into my computer pretty easily, but there'd be a delay, I think it would be interesting to find a way to use my own collection of vocal tracks and sound effects with this live. I could do it in post if I needed to, but it wouldn't be the same.

Never heard of this. Did research after your post and it makes perfect sense that Harmonix is behind this.

Making an Album in a Day
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QT0Bvf2FIQ
Out of all the YouTube Guitar Stars/Gods I watch, Rob has always been the gold standard when it comes to creative and entertaining videos and this is probably the best one yet. You have to watch this. There are some very funny, laugh-out-loud moments. This is what happens when you go into a Studio with no music or lyrics and have to come up with stuff on the spot. There are some very good songs here.

I Hired Fiverr Musicians To Finish My Song...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmnHPdQTGQI
Okay, this was a fun experiment to watch play out. Not because the song turned out great....but because of how p*ss-poor the end product is. Lyrics are a joke and the singer. Yikes. Not good. But hey, what do you expect for the price they charge?
-
So funny story, I get some voiceovers done on Fiverr... not by any musician I saw here, but a few voices I like. But one recording for Iron Star which had this beautiful voice on it came back oddly distorted, it was doubling up on itself and it was so unusual that I knew I had to use it somehow. I put a basic backing track on there and it was halfway to becoming a dance track. I don't know much of anything about making club music and I don't have many samples to choose from, but it's something I'd like to try and finish one of these days.
-
I wanna hear it once it's done. Keep at it.
-
I just gotta figure out how to articulate what i'm looking for.. ,mysterious sounds, chimes...

If you have a YouTube account, go to the Creator Studio and check out all the free Sound FX files you can download and use in your projects. You can preview all the audio files to find what you need.

What Makes This Song Great? Ep.61 VAN HALEN (#2)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XhKSXeT2OI
I love this guy's channel. Been a follower of his for a while now and finally he's doing a breakdown of Jump. The thing about his "What Makes This Song Great' series so enjoyable to watch (and listen) is that his tear-down of songs highlights stuff I never heard of before and Jump is another one that made me go WTF. Yeah, I know this isn't a traditional 'Recording' video per se, but having him isolate the stems and how they relate to the other parts does make this a must if you are trying to write a song. Definitely check it out.

What Makes This Song Great? Ep.69 JOURNEY
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXlBA-98i5w
I can't get enough of Rick's series. It's just so ey...er, ear opening to hear things that you normally wouldn't hear....or can't hear because of the song layering. Hearing the Stems for this song is just good on the ear drums, especially Steve Perry's vocals.
