KISS (Music From The Elder) 1981
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_03star.gif)
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1981MusicfromTheElder.jpg) (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1981MusicfromTheElderBackCover.jpg)
What has been considered the worst KISS album of all time (or at least when it was released anyway) has slowly been growing on me. It's a concept album like that of The Who's Tommy, which was intended to go with a proposed film based on the album. But with the fan backlash and critical drubbing of the final product, the KISS house of cards finally collapsed on itself. I understand why it was universally hated. I was one of them. Music From The Elder is definitely an acquired taste.
To the average fan or non-fan if you will, the common reaction upon listening for the first time would probably be something like "what the f*ck is this sh*t?". Like I said, an acquired taste, which I seem to be agreeing with lately. I just choose to look at it as a non-KISS album, which it is and look at it more as something different to listen to.
Out is Peter Criss, and in is new drummer Eric Carr. The album did not showcase what a monster drummer he is. He would have to wait a year for that. But the wait is well worth it.
Fave Songs: The Oath, A World Without Heroes and I. The album cover has been speculated over the years to be that of Paul Stanley's hand. It's not. It was a hand model, hired specifically for the photo shoot of the Cover. End of discussion.

After the disaster that was The Elder, the record company wanted to do damage control and release a greatest hits package. At the request of the suits, they wanted 4 new songs to add to it. I love the 4: "I'm A Legend Tonight", "Down On Your Knees", "Nowhere To Run", and "Partners In Crime".
These songs are the only ones I listen to on this, as the others you find on any other of their 200 or so greatest hits packages.
This album was my first Import that I ever bought as a kid. Originally I thought that I had scored a rare misprint cover since the SS were now ZZ. I soon learned that this was only released overseas and not in the states, and for obvious reasons, they change those letters in Germany. Ended up picking up the CD Import a little while back as well. I've added the European Cover above so you can see the difference.
And no, Ace had nothing to do with this record even though he was on the cover. Guitar duties went to Bob Kulick, Bruce's older brother.

KISS (Creatures Of The Night) 1982
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_10star.gif)
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1982bCreaturesoftheNight.jpg) (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1982bCreaturesoftheNightBackCover.jpg)
Creatures Of The Night is best KISS album during this era of replacement players. Not only that, it's the best KISS album of their entire career, and that includes Destroyer as well. Creatrues has the most aggressive, ferocious playing and singing that to this day has yet to be matched, although Revenge did come pretty damn close.
Let's get this review started off right by saying that even though Ace Frehley is on the cover, he had nothing to do with the album. He had already quit the band but they decided to put him on the cover to once again dupe us into believing all was well. The pattern continues.
More lies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that that is out of the way. The reason for Creatures being so aggressive and full of balls comes down to the two new guys in the band: Eric Carr and Vinnie Vincent. First off, Eric's drumming was a complete 180° from Peter Criss. Where Peter was more swing influenced, Eric came from the school of hard rock with his idol being John Bonham. Even though Eric had joined the band for The Elder, it was on Creatures that he finally got to shine. And did he ever shine.
Creatures to my ears is one of the all time best sounding drums ever recorded on tape. It is full of thunderous drumming that just makes you (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/HTL_jaw-dropping.gif) It's that f*cking good. The mix of the drums was pushed to the front without it overwhelming any of the songs. And on top of that the sound of the drums itself is still my fave. Props to Mr. Carr.
The other half of the equation of why Creatures f*cking rules is Vinnie Vincent. Where Ace was definitely old school in his playing, Vinnie was a guitar shredder with all the bells and whistles that come with it. But he was kept in check to service the songs and not his ego and that's why the songs work so well.
With the inclusion of both Eric and Vinnie and their playing at A-game level here, Gene and Paul had no choice but to step up their own game. For the last few albums it was all about pop and disco with those two, not to mention the ill fated Elder album. Both sing with a new sense of purpose. They were going for the throat to reestablish their credibility that was long gone by now. They all aced their test and passed with flying colors. (pun intended)
Fave Songs: Every last mother-f*cking-one-of-them. Even their lone ballad has gravitas. It's so hard tp pick an single MVP here. So, the award goes to the entire album. Great, and I mean GREAT album cover. All time best ever for KISS.
KISS (Creatures Of The Night - New Cover Version) 1982
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1982cCreaturesoftheNight.jpg) (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1982cCreaturesoftheNightBackCover.jpg)
I'll jump ahead a few years now for the sake of explaining the second cover of the same album. Once KISS had reestablished themselves and were experiencing a resurgence in popularity, they went back to re-release Creatures with a new cover. Only problem is that they were once again trying to con the fans that may have already bailed on them when it originally came out to push this as a "new" recording. And on top of that they put Bruce Kulick on the cover to further drive home the point that it's HIM playing on the album. Shameful.
I have both versions, the one with the original track list and this current one. The current one I won't listen to because the original track order is so ingrained in my psyche that listening to the other track order is just too jarring for me.
Just like before with Peter Criss, the band had Ace go out and help promote the album as if he were still in the band. So he did a video and a handful of promos trying in vain to air guitar along to Vinnie's playing.

KISS (Lick It Up) 1983
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_05star.gif)
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1983LickItUp.jpg) (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1983LickItUpBackCover.jpg)
As great as Creatures Of The Night was musically to the band and few fans still around, it was a commercial flop. So, what to do? Drop the make-up and hope for a fresh start with a new identity. What we get is a fantastic follow-up to Creatures with Lick It Up. Overall the album is more polished while keeping that hard edge established with the previous effort. Although the drums recede to the background here as it's not the focus as it was before.
The lineup here is still the same with Vinnie Vincent now an "official" member of the band. His imprint is all over the album. He definitely was the key to changing the bands sound and sending KISS in a different direction musically, so much so that they didn't sound like they were from New York anymore, but a band from LA with the growing explosion of the hair metal scene. Was this a good thing or bad thing? Who's to say. But the band regained a lot of fans with this album. It was good to see that their last album wasn't a fluke and that they were on the right path musically.
The biggest hit here was obviously the title track Lick It Up. First video to show them without their make-up. It was surreal watching it for the first 100 times. This song is the most popular here, but it's not the best song on the album though. Exciter and Million To One is the albums strongest songs.
Fave Songs: Exciter, Not For The Innocent, Lick It Up, Gimme More and A Million To One. The Cover kicks ass. It's simple in it's design with just the band against a white backdrop.

KISS (Animalize) 1985
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_03star.gif)
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1984Animalize.jpg) (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1984AnimalizeBackCover.jpg)
Well, Vinnie Vincent's reign as KISS' axe shredder was short lived. After reviving the band musically, he became increasingly difficult to work with, both on stage (20 minute guitar solos!! wtf!) and off, making certain financial demands. So out with the old and in with the new. Stepping into the meat grinder was Mark St. John.
Mark was another gun slinger in the mold of the LA scene. But this time Gene and Paul would write all the songs with no input from him, more or less telling him what to play so as not to have another Vinnie fiasco on their hands. Even Gene's partcipation on Animalize was minimal since he was off making movies. Hell, they had Jean Beauvoir come in and play his bass parts on half the album. So it all falls onto Paul's shoulders, and because of that, this album suffers from it. But Mark's tenure with the band was short lived as he suffered from Reiter's Syndrome. So, he was out of the band after the first leg of the tour.
Remember Bob Kulick from previous reviews here? Well Gene and Paul asked him to come on board full time. He refused. But he recommended his little brother Bruce for the gig. He got it and went on to become the longest tenured guitarist for KISS in it's history, longer than Ace Frehley himself.
I admit that when Animalize first came out, I thought it was great. But over the years it's getting harder and harder for me to listen to it. It has certainly lost a lot of it's edge over time. Average at best is the kindest thing I can say about it.
Fave Songs: I've Had Enough (Into The Fire), and Heaven's Of Fire. Cover is meh.

KISS (Asylum) 1985

Asylum is another album that I thought was great back in the day but has been falling apart over the years. It's now an above average album to me. By now the band was more focused on touring and taking the show out on the road rather than working hard at songwriting and putting together a quality album. They more or less were of the mind set to throw whatever songs they had together simply for an excuse to go on tour, since that was where their bread and butter lay. This was also around the time KISS decided to re-release Creatures Of The Night with the new cover with Bruce Kulick on it.
Bruce did get some killer solos out of this record to show the world what he could do. So it's not a complete bust here.
Fave Songs: King Of The Mountain, Who Wants To Be Lonely, Trial By Fire, and UH! All Night. MVP goes to Tears Are Falling. <-----earworm. Duh. Worst album cover in their existence, along with Sonic Boom. Ugh. It's horrible.
Worst excuse for "costumes" in their entire career are presented in all their cringe-inducing glory in the videos. Oh God...how low could they go after this? The Demon Child Gene Simmons reduced to that of a drag queen! Ack!!

KISS (Crazy Nights) 1987
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_01halfstar.gif)
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1987CrazyNights.jpg) (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1987CrazyNightsBackCover.jpg)
The music climate had changed drastically by 1987. This was at the peak of hair metal and power ballads and lots of keyboard-influenced songs were dominating the airwaves. KISS was not immune to this and just like every other time before, tried to jump on it's band wagon. Big mistake. KISS and Keyboards are not a happy marriage. Years earilier they had a pretty good song with Christine Sixteen on the Love Gun album. But that was with a piano and it was still a rock boogie song. Here, it's just a bit much with the keyboards.
Overall, the production was garbage as they decided to make the most "pop" oriented album up to now. (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/puke.gif) There's a couple of songs that are ok, but the majority of Crazy Nights is pretty forgettable. This gets a 1 star bump only for Bruce Kulick's opening guitar intro/solo for No, No, No. As for the rest of the song itself. No, No, No indeed.
Fave Songs: Good Girl Gone Bad. Album cover is better than Asylum, but still needs some work on getting creative once again.

KISS (Smashes, Thrashes & Hits) 1989

(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1988SmashesThrashesAndHits.jpg) (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1988SmashesThrashesAndHitsBackCover.jpg)
Smashes, Thrashes & Hits is a Greatest Hits package and just like before, they felt the need to remix all the songs. They even f*cked up I Love It Loud with this remix. The drum sound is super thin and has none of the balls from the original. My guess is that they had to tone it down to keep in line with the rest of the album or it would have stood out like a sore thumb. But the biggest gaffe was having Eric Carr re-record the lead vocals for Beth. I'm a huge fan of his, but this is a big no-no in my book.
This set also comes with 2 new songs: Let's Put The X In Sex and (You Make Me) Rock Hard as incentive to buy it. It worked. This is the last KISS album to sell in excess of 2 million copies.
Fave New Songs: (You Make Me) Rock Hard <------It's got more cowbell in it!!!! Album cover is meh.

KISS (Hot In The Shade) 1989
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_04halfstar.gif)
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1989HotInTheShade.jpg) (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1989HotInTheShadeBackCover.jpg)
Hot In The Shade is the longest running album in their career clocking in at just under 1 hour. Overall I enjoy the album immensely. Thank the almighty stars above that they got rid of the keyboards. But they basically jumped from one ship to another. This time around, acoustic and unplugged songs were all the rage. So of course, KISS once again tapped into this. But they finally were able to get it right with Forever, their first Top 10 (and last) hit since Beth. The album was back to what they do right, writing and playing rock songs. Deciding to produce the record themselves, both Gene and Paul crafted a solid disc full of songs and got rid of that awful "polished" sound of Crazy Nights, which makes me ill to this day.
This is also the final album with Eric Carr on drums before passing away. It's just ironic that they wait all this time to give him his first song to sing lead vocals on Little Caesar. RIP
Another great song that got plenty of airplay was Hide Your Heart. This song was so good, that even Ace Frehley covered it the same year for his own solo album Trouble Walkin'. But of course their biggest hit on the album was Forever, which was co-written with Michael Bolton, whom Bruce Kulick was a member with in their band Blackjack as the lead guitarist back in the day. Say what you will about Bolton, but when he wants to write a rock song, he can write some pretty impressive stuff. This was the first notable songwriting collaboration with KISS and a high profile singer since Bryan Adams co-wrote songs for Creatures Of The Night.
Fave Songs: Rise To It, Hide Your Heart, Love's A Slap In The Face, Forever, Cadillac Dreams, King of Hearts and Little Caesar
Album cover is ok. Nothing to write home about. But the cover did inspire them to construct a working Sphinx as their main stage piece for their Hot In The Shade Tour.
Fun fact: The video for Rise To It was the only time between 1983-1996 that either Gene or Paul put the KISS make-up back on in full costume. It was cool to see when the video came out.

KISS (Revenge) 1992
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_05star.gif)
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1992Revenge.jpg) (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1992RevengeBackCover.jpg)
Revenge is the hardest, heaviest hitting KISS album since Creatures Of The Night. For this one the band enlisted the midas touch of Bob Ezrin, who produced Destroyer. But the biggest help they got was in the form of Vinnie Vincent. He was brought back into the fold to help write songs for the album. What's weird is that Gene and Paul would even put themselves in this position given that they fired him for unethical behavior as well as being sued by him a few years after that. Oh well...
With him on board, the sound was definitely harder and faster. And that was a good thing. Also on board for drum duties is Eric Singer, taking over for Eric Carr who was hospitalize at the time. He would pass away a short time later. The album itself was dedicated to his memory as well as getting the final song on the album with Carr Jam 1981, which he recorded shortly after joining the band.
Unholy set's the table off on the right foot. This is the balliest song in sound and style in their existence. Could not have opened with a better song. I remember hearing that even Steve Vai sought out Bruce Kulick to give him props for his leads on the song. Nice. God Gave Rock 'N' Roll To You is another fantastic song. Of note, during the making of the album, Eric Carr was still a member of KISS, but had open heart surgery. So when he felt good enough to leave the hospital, he was able to make his final apperance as a member of KISS in the music video, even though it's not him playing.
The opening riff to Take It Off is pure coolness. And Everytime I Look At You is one of the best power ballads with the string sections.
Fave Songs: Unholy, Take It Off, God Gave Rock 'N' Roll To You II, Domino, Every Time I Look At You and I Just Wanna MVP goes to God Gave Rock 'N' Roll. Very cool album cover. The exterior represents the interior to a Tee.

KISS (Alive III) 1993
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_03star.gif)
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1993AliveIII.jpg) (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1993AliveIIIBackCover.jpg)
Alive III suffers from the same things as before with the other two live albums...doctoring. Not only that, this "concert" isn't even from the same show. It's a collection of songs pulled from multiple shows. On top of that, one of the songs, I Was Made For Loving You, was recorded at a soundcheck with crowd noise added later. I had heard about this for years. But I had to check on Wiki to see if there was any mention of this. Sure enough, there is. Also, some songs have been edited, case in point...I Just Wanna. The crowd participation of the song ends with "f*ck". But the band felt it necessary to edit that out and insert "fuh". I knew something wasn't right with this record based on that one song, because I went to the Revenge show and the crowd was very into it, singing along with the added "f*ck".
Alive III was taken from the Revenge Tour, so there's plenty of full concerts in their entirety that they have in their possession. But they chose to splice it all together and pass it off as one of the full concerts "as is". This deception needs to stop. To continually f*ck over fans that pay their hard earn cash is despicable on the part of both Gene and Paul. I get that they want to put out the best possible product to bolster their stage show credibility. But they are doing themselves more harm than good with the lies. Oh well....
As for the album itself. If you take the songs one by one and not as a "concert", the majority of them are ok. Nothing really stands out as jaw dropping. Average album at best. I prefer to watch the Revenge Tour live on DVD.
Fave Songs: The Star Spangled Banner <----Sounds sick on a Surround Sound stereo set up. The cover is meh.

KISS (Kiss My Ass: Classic Kiss Regrooved) 1994

1. Lenny Kravitz featuring Stevie Wonder - Deuce
2. Garth Brooks featuring KISS - Hard Luck Woman
3. Anthrax - She
4. Gin Blossoms - Christine Sixteen
5. Toad the Wet Sprocket - Rock & Roll All Nite
6. Shandi's Addiction - Calling Dr. Love
7. Dinosaur Jr - Goin' Blind
8. Extreme - Strutter
9. The Lemonheads - Plaster Caster
10. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Detroit Rock City
11. Yoshiki - Black Diamond
12. Die Ärzte - Unholy (International / U.S. Vinyl Version Only)
I never had the need to post the track list for all the other albums till now. But with the people involved in Kiss My Ass, it is definitely warranted here. Kiss My Ass: Classic Kiss Regrooved is exactly what it sounds like. Instead of the standard Greatest Hits Package, KISS decided to actually get creative here and call on the help of some of the biggest names in the biz and not so big to have them cut their own versions of classic KISS songs. Some are hits and the other are just ok. And two of them absolutely suck.
For me this is a very dicey situation. I'm all about the original songs and whenever you re-record any of them, I'm going to become very protective of the originals. Having said that, I went into this with an open mind....and ear so has not to judge to critical what the new artist do.
Lenny Kravitz and Stevie Wonder's version of Deuce, a hard rocking song that's turned it into a fuzz box 70's style romp. It's cool, but not the best take on the album. A few listens is about all I can take before it gets tiring. Garth Brooks performing with KISS is a pretty straight forward version of the original song from Peter Criss. Not bad, but nothing highly memorable about it either.
Toad the Wet Sprocket's version of Rock And Roll All Nite is inspired and just oozes so much coolness with a stripped down acoustic rendition. Awesome sh*t right here folks!! Extreme's version of Strutter is okay. Points for originality. But it's not the great version I was hoping for.
The Lemonheads version of Plaster Caster is about as close the original song as you can get and not have it be performed by KISS themselves. Note for note, it's the same. Doesn't stray to far outside the box here. Anthrax does a pretty cool version of She.
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones version of Detroit Rock City is horrible. Hate it. Sucks. Can't stand it. Die Ärzte version of Unholy is garbage. Sh*t. Blows. Add any other adjectives you can think of here.
But the crown jewel of this disc goes to Yoshiki version of Black Diamond. You haven't heard Black Diamond till you've heard it in all it's orchestral magic.
It.
Is.
Awesome!!!!!!!
Fave Songs...er...performances: Anthrax, Gin Blossoms, Toad the Wet Sprocket and Dinosaur Jr. MVP award goes to Yoshiki.
The album cover is meh. Nothing about it is cool. It's a poorly executed train wreck. I mean, how f*cked up do you have to be to allow it to make it all the way to the printing press and not notice that the boy wearing the makeup isn't even a KISS character. They skipped Ace Frehley's iconic image and went with that? Some would argue that it's using Paul Stanley's "original design" before he settled on the Star design. Wrong. Even that wasn't gold colored and is nowhere near the same design. Oh well...But I will point out that wherever the album was released, it will show that nations specific flag in the background. For example, the ones in Japan show...the flag of Japan.

KISS (MTV Unplugged) 1996
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_05star.gif)
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1996MTVUnplugged.jpg) (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1996MTVUnpluggedBackCover.jpg)
KISS MTV Unplugged Insert Poster (Double-Sided)
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Misc/KISS/KISSMTVUnpluggedInsertPoster.jpg) (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Misc/KISS/KISSMTVUnpluggedInsertPosterBackSide.jpg)
By this time, KISS had been doing occasional acoustic sets at select KISS conventions which proved to be a success. The band was approached to do the MTV Unplugged series and this is the results. The biggest selling point for the show and the resulting album was the reunion with Peter Criss and Ace Frehley, which would be the first time all 4 had performed on stage together in 15 years.
When I heard that this was going down, I couldn't wait for Halloween to come around (it premiered on MTV on that day). I got chills seeing Peter and Ace walk out and performing. Such a great moment for me and any other KISS fan. This mini reunion would kick start the massive Reunion Tour that would kick commence in 1996.
As for Unplugged itself, it's a fantastic album full of great KISS songs that actually work extremely well within the confines of acoustic guitars. It's not entirely acoustic mind you, but it works. Love it. The current lineup (at that time) of Gene, Paul, Eric and Bruce take center stage for the bulk of the show. It's during the encore that they bring out Peter and Ace to perform Beth and 2,000 Man.
Then they bring back out Eric and Bruce to rejoin, making this the only time that all current members of KISS were on stage with the original members to perform together on Nothin' To Lose and Rock And Roll All Nite.
Fave Songs: Every last one of them. MVP award goes to Every Time I Look At You.
As for the Poster Insert, this was included with all LP Vinyl pressings. I never got that and went with the CD. Hell, I never even knew it had Vinyl pressings till now. These Posters were the only ones I could find online. So the quality is meh. Album cover is nothing special here.

KISS (Carnival Of Souls - The Final Sessions) 1997
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_04halfstar.gif)
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1997CarnivalOfSouls.jpg) (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1997CarnivalOfSoulsBackCover.jpg)
Carnival Of Souls was actually recorded in 1995 before the MTV Unplugged taping. But with the huge response for the original members performing, they went forth with the Reunion Tour, which meant that Eric Singer and Bruce Kulick were out of the band. Actually, both were paid a nice care package to step aside for the tour, but that they were still members of KISS.
So, with the Tour in full swing, Souls was put on the shelf indefinitely. It was only when the album itself was leaked and was circulating in mass quantities as a bootleg that they decided to give the album a proper release. The addendum of Final Sessions was just to clarify that this was basically it for the current KISS lineup as Gene, Paul, Ace and Peter were of the mindset that the original was it till the end. Ahhhhhhh....right.
As for Souls, it's definitely a different KISS as it stuck with what worked with Revenge but added elements of Grunge, as they always do when jumping on whatever music bandwagon is in vogue of the day.
Bruce Kulick, after being the longest tenured guitarist for the band, finally gets to sing lead vocals for I Walk Alone. Ironically, this would be the last appearance for Bruce Kulick as a member of KISS. The irony isn't lost on me that the same thing happened with Eric Carr for Hot In The Shade. Bruce plays some wicked guitar leads all over this album. At least he went out on his own terms here.
This is only the 3rd time I have even listened to this album. I hated it the first 2 times I listened to it back in '97 and I think the reason for that is because I was back on the "original KISS" train and this was so un-KISS-like. But right now, with so much distance from the last time I gave it a spin, I'm actually really digging it. It's much better than I originally gave it credit for.
Fave Songs: In My Head, Seduction Of The Innocent and I Walk Alone. The album cover pretty much tells you everything you need to know. In that this was a rush job and no thought was given to the cover other than to highlite the former members of KISS, since Ace and Peter were back in the band and in full makeup at that time.
No music videos were produced for Carnival Of Souls. All you get is a behind the scenes recording session.

KISS (Sonic Boom) 2009
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_04star.gif)
After 3 huge world tours (Reunion, Psycho Circus and the Farewell Tour), both Peter and Ace exit the band. I knew it wasn't meant to last. It would have been nice if KISS as a whole would have called it quits as the original foursome. Oh well....
Gene and Paul wanted to keep the band going, so they go back to Eric Singer and ask him if he would be willing to play the role of "Peter Criss" in full makeup and costume. He of course said yes. They also approached Bruce Kulick about playing the role of "Ace Frehley" as well. He said no. His words were that for the entire duration of his career with the band, he had always been living in his shadow. So dressing up as him would be a disservice to him as well as Ace. I have more respect for Bruce for stepping aside than I do with anyone else in the band. Props to you dude! He has soldiered on with solos projects as well as joining Grand Funk Railroad.
Stepping into the role of "Ace" is Tommy Thayer, formerly of Black N Blue, who has been working as the bands Film Editor, Director and all around band gopher up till getting the job as the new guitarist. Right place, right time, lands him his ultimate gig. As a side project he was also involved in a KISS tribute band along with former lead singer for Black N Blue's own Jaime St. James. Small world.
Sonic Boom is a 3 Disc package (Sonic Boom, Klassics, KISS Live In Buenos Aires Concert DVD).
Sonic Boom is much better than I could have hoped for. I had zero expectations for it. So, getting to listen to it thru a few times it really is going back to that Classic KISS sound of the 70's, which is a nice surprised. When I first heard about Sonic Boom, I was convinced it was going to fall along the lines of Psycho Circus, which is complete garbage. I haven't listened to that one since it came out, so I'll need to give it a once over to see if it still sucks.
Personal faves on Sonic Boom: Modern Day Delilah, Stand, When Lightning Strikes, and Say Yeah!
Right now I'd have to go with Stand as my favorite. The better songs on the album are from Paul. The ones with Gene are just ok on some, and slightly better on others. I'll have to digest it more to see if I can warm up to it. Sonic Boom really is a throw back to vintage KISS. It really does fit within the history of the band quite well. And with some distance from the last time I listened to it, I can recommend this one to anyone. The more I listen to it, I can definitely see the rating going up. But for the time being, 4 stars is good enough.
Rock And Roll Over
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS/Kiss-Rock_And_Roll_Over-Frontalsmal.jpg)
Album Cover. What is this piece of sh*t? I can't believe the same guy that designed the cover to Rock And Roll Over, is the same person (Michael Doret) that did Sonic Boom. Talk about someone turning into a hack and producing utter crap. Worst album ever for this band. I for one can not understand how Gene, who has final say so in all things KISS related, agreed to release this cover. Ugh!!

KISS (Jigoku-Retsuden - Aka KISS Klassics) 2009
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_01star.gif)

Klassic is exactly what I expected. Blasphemy! I tried to keep an open mind, and ear with this one. But dude, you just don't mess with the originals! On top of that, all the songs have a much slower pace. Why? I have no idea. I just don't understand the need to re-record classic KISS songs with Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer. What's the point?
Only song even worth anything on this one is "Do You Love Me", which seems to actually add something new and different to it. Still prefer the original though.
I'm being very generous with the 1 star rating. It just sucks that I have to listen to KISS Klassics as my final KISS album for these reviews. To say it goes out on a whimper is an understatement. The album cover sucks. What the f*ck is it? I dunno. All I know is that the album was originally released in Japan, so naturally it's going to incorporate the culture into the album itself. Still sucks though.
The End...for the time being anyways.

KISS ‘KissologyVol. 4′ Contents Revealed (http://ultimateclassicrock.com/kiss-kissology-4-contents-revealed/)
Hmmmmm. I gotta give Gene and Paul credit where credit is due. I think even they knew that a Volume 4 set featuring just stuff with Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer would not sell as well. So, what they have done is gone back to the vault from all incarnations of the band to give it a good variety of material to satisfy those long time KISS fans. Ahem. Still remains to be seen what the bonus disk will be at Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart. Not sure about Target getting one yet. To be released late November, just in time for Xmas.

wow that is an amazing set.
for sure picking that up!
-
I'm getting it for sure. My holy grail that I need and want in my collection is a full Animalize concert with Mark St. John on guitar, a full Lick It Up Tour concert, a full Creatures Of The Night Tour concert on the American leg and a full concert of the Asylum Tour. They all exist as Gene has been quoted numerous times that they have been taping every single show since the Winterland concert.

Paul Stanley Interview (The Wall Street Journal)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrMUR1RhTjU&feature=relmfu
Really cool interview.
-
wow it's long too (that's what she said)
will check this out tonight after my kid crashes out.
-
It's not one of those lame ass, superficial type of interviews either. Paul's got stuff to say and he says it well.
-
a lot of what he said about the labels....was SO true.......they are STILL getting their money and now just screw the artists....not the fans/.
full circle.
-
I'm watching this right now.
kid is in the tub
-
I do believe she is singing Beth right now. Smart kid that she is.
-
Paul should realize Paul sells art because he's Paul Stanley...it's not horrible work, but they wouldn't sell for more than a few hundred bucks if it wasn't him/....but people just kind of play the "we'll talk to Paul about his artwork...to get the real interview"
hahahaha
-
I actually think his art is pretty good in spite of the name attached to it.
Ack!!
-
ah they are talking about the level of CONSISTENCY KIss has delivered LIVE!
see **** the player haters!!!
-
I will say this. His work has improved.
he did a show in La Jolla about 6 years back...and it was really bad.
the stuff he's got around them during the interview is much improved....so you know for a self taught artist....it's getting better and better.
-
The people that are bashing KISS are the same people that think Lady Gaga is an original, an innovator. They don't know their history of what's come before. I've actually read comments where the slam Madonna for swiping from LG. F u c k i n g lame. So, I really don't listen to or take heart what any of these haters spew out.
-
great interview....thanks for sharing master Chip....I will for sure be watching that again.....very inspirational.
proud to be a small part of Paul's dream as a long time KISS fan......

KISS (Music From The Elder) 1981
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_03star.gif)
Hahahaha. Still reading KISS: Behind The Mask and currently on the section detailing The Elder. Ace gives the album 2 Stars, Gene gives the album 2 Stars if it were a bad Genesis album and 0 Stars as a KISS album and Paul gives it a ? Stars. Yes, as in 'Question Mark'. Hahahaha. I know a certain person who will call the guys idiots for rating it so low.
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/lol.gif)(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/lol.gif)(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/lol.gif)(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/lol.gif)
I feel like an idiot for rating it so high!
-
they just can't own that record....they are too close to the project.
I am not going to go on and on saying it's the best progressive concept record ever because it isn't.
I actually think dark light is a pretty crappy song....but the opening 3 or 4 tracks are awesome....and besides blackwell and dark light...I think the rest of the record is very well done.
so I'd still give it maybe 4 stars....4.2 possibly.
hahahaha
-
Man, I'd pay good money to see you go at it, one on one with Gene and Paul and trying to convince them about The Elder. It would certainly make for an awesome Reality TV Show!!!!!(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/HTL_biggrin.gif)
-
hhahahaha
look now I think even they realize more than ever what they have on their hands.
I mean on that KISS cruise they played 2 or 3 songs off the Elder at that acoustic set.
it's just not rock and roll all nite and dr love.
they did Rush Caress of Steel instead.
they were still pretty good at it.
although it's a shame the guitar playing (soloing) wasn't off the Charts like Alex Lifeson was on COS/
-
Hey buddy, I hate to burst your bubble because I know how much you love the album, but that little bit they did on the cruise where Paul acts like he can't remember anything from The Elder, but that he will "try" to play something off the top of his head is a set-up. It's part of the show. Just search on YouTube and you will see the same bit over and over from multiple shows and it's always the same "two songs" and they always stop playing it at the same mark every time.
I'm beginning to think they like choreography a little too much. (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/HTL_popcorn.gif)
It's just fascinating reading the book and Paul going on and on about how much he hates the album, but yet he wants to work it into the set for this little fun "off the cuff" jam session.

KISS - Rock And Roll All Nite (Dancing With The Stars)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJZ3Cmga3dY
Special thanks goes out to Mac for giving me the 411 on this. This is the last place I expected KISS to end up at. But then again, Gene is a businessman first and he will do anything to drum up ticket sales for the KISS/Crue Tour.

KISS & Ace Frehley Hard Rock 2004 Memorabilia
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VizeAjNW4xE
F u c k i n g cool to see Ace checking out his old costume and demostrating his smoking guitar for those in attendance. Side note here, I don't think Tommy has the right to speak on behalf of anything regarding Ace or any old costumes from the 70's when he wasn't even part of that era. Ugh, he can say and do stuff that p i s s e s me off without even trying.
Long live the REAL Ace Frehley!!!

How old is the interview (never mind I didn't realize the date was actually the date of the clip itself).....they look a lot younger....this has got to be pre-family jewels.
still watching but digging Gene's demeanor big time/

I want that guitar.....
I WANT YOU (guitar!!!)

It's old enough that Peter Criss was playing the role of Eric Singer.

KISS - Hell Or Hallelujah
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kgr-4ZOR3rI
First single from the forthcoming Monster album. Released yesterday internationally and today in North America. I still don't get the logic of releasing songs a day apart worldwide. Once it's out there......EVERYONE has it if you have access to the internet. Anyway, I like this song
-
whoa kick ass...this day just got about 1000 times better....I was having a shitty day working on a very tough and boring page.
KISS will make it all better.
I hope!
-
there's only one way to rock?
hahahaha
-
It sounds like they are trying to recapture the sound of Revenge (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/music/kiss-(the-replacement-lineup)-discography/msg2691/#msg2691) and a little bit of Creatures Of The Night (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/music/kiss-(the-replacement-lineup)-discography/msg2683/#msg2683) and I'm 100% A-Ok with that.
-
I liked it a lot...the production was ok...not bad by any means...but it sounded a little weak....but I liked the song a lot.
the intro had a better tone than when the band came in...weird Paul is producing...not knocking the guy...but like bring in a top producer and rock this ****....at least have Paul co-produce or something....but his full scope of production was for sure lacking with the full band sections of the song....it sounded thin and not mixed well.
I am sure Eric and Tommy can't say **** either...and Gene wasn't even around....
great song though...I won't take anything away from the track
-
I'm sure they will be tinkering with the album up till the final day they can before it's a lock.
-
the full records is not in the can yet?
-
It's in the can, but the album isn't coming out till October. That's 2 months to scrap this version all together and record another album.

KISS on Making Their New Album "Monster" and Starting Onstage Puking
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwDdbaBz8m0
Pretty good (edited) interview and I liked the ending when Gene confronts the noisy people in the hallway.
-
great interview thanks for sharing!!
How can you watch that and not run out and buy MONSTER right now??
The Kiss Army is eye balling you son!
hahahaha
-
They can eye ball me all they want. I'm the only one with the KISS logo tattooed on said balls. Hurt like a motherf*cker!
-
I heard Eric asked for a raise this year.
he want to see if he can get 30K a year touring with them
hahahahahaha
;)
-
They be lowballing him.
-
even 1 million a year seems like a downer...after taxes that's 500K...he's making a very good living...but not something where you can really go nuts and live like Gene or Paul probably do.
hell Paul can sell a few of his horrible paintings and make that in a weekend
hahahahaah

absolutely stunning

I'd buy it.

KISS (Monster) 2012
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_04halfstar.gif)
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/2012Monter.jpg) (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/2012MonterBack.jpg)
I had to give Monster a few spins from top to bottom before I could give an objective review. Would I let my fanboy self get consumed by the latest offering from KISS, even if half the band is gone? It only took one time around listening to this to know this is better than the last album Sonic Boom.
Even though Hell or Hallelujah was officially it's first single off the album, to me the real first single and the one that should have been the opening track on the album is Eat Your Heart Out. Everything on this song clicks and has a very infectious chorus, great drums and wicked leads by Tommy on guitar. It's nice to hear him putting his stamp on a KISS song instead of playing like Ace Frehley. Along with Eat Your Heart Out, other songs like Freak, Outta This World, All for the Love of Rock & Roll, Wall Of Sound, and Hell or Hallelujah have the makings of songs that could and should have some longevity and won't soon disappear anytime soon. Is it on the level of Love Gun or Black Diamond? No. But this is some of the best stuff that Gene and Paul have put out in a long time, dating back to their last great album, Revenge.
If I do have one criticism of Monster is that the drums for the most part are buried in the mix. Not sure why Paul and Gene have basically stuck to this formula when mixing their albums. Listen to Creatures and you will see and hear a band that wasn't afraid to push the drums to the forefront without having it overwhelm the songs.
A lot of fans and both Gene and Paul have said that this is just as good if not better than Revenge. Sorry, but that's overreaching a bit. That was an instant classic. I gave Sonic Boom 4 stars after a few listens and was pleasantly surprise that I even liked it as much as I did. But even with a solid rating, I don't remember any songs from it at the moment. With Monster there are already a few songs that I know I will be playing a year from now. So, to me this one is already a winner and a much improved output from the guys.
I'm surprised the band hasn't released any official videos from the album yet. What's up with that? This band is made to give us videos. So, where are they? Bah!! Anyway, I will post more thoughts on Monster as they come to me as I continue to listen....I mean, rock out. Highly recommend this as a Buy for sure. Once the price of the Vinyl drops, I for sure will grab that and add to my ever grown KISS vinyl collection. Can't let certain people catch up to me in that department.
Fave Songs:
Hell or Hallelujah
Freak
Shout Mercy
Eat Your Heart Out
The Devil Is Me
-
Still rockin' the album this morning. Also, I updated the Poll to include Monster. So you can vote for this album as their best if that's what you think.
-
Sheesh!! I just checked the numbers for Revenge and Creatures. Revenge came out 20 years ago and Creatures came out 30 years ago!!! How is that possible!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
-
I've listened to the full album now...I'd say 6-7 times. I never did read the track listings or titles...so I am going to wing that part and just talk about the record and the music...
I haven't bought a new non make up album ever....and that actually doesn't even make sense because this record they are in make up....so scratch that and let's start over. I've never bought a NEW NON-Original MEMBERS record....I am so used to seeing them in and out of make up...I am not even sure I notice now...which version I am seeing
:)
I love the record. First listen I was into it....there were a couple tracks that really stood out, and a few that were a little too commercial for me (the one that Gene sings and sounds almost like a Bon Jovi song) but I was ready to give it another spin immediately (in fact 3 times in a row) (yes I did get the vinyl and not the CD....) but second time I listened to the record I was even more into it...I was hearing little bits and pieces of great music I love...some Beatles (helter skelter intro) some Michael Schenker Group (Victim of Illusion) a little Zeppelin here and there....and a big spoonful of KISS/
Tommy's guitar playing was fresh and sounded great....good tone, a couple of really nice solos....good stuff...Paul's vocals sounded really good, the lyrics for the most part were really good and what you'd expect from any great KISS album.
I find myself walking around the house singing more than one of these tunes right now....
now here's the tough part.....do I rate this album as a stand alone.....because if that was the case....I'd give it probably a 4 or 4.5 stars.....but where does that give room for all the original albums...there's no breathing room for records like Dressed to Kill, or Dynasty....but I think it would be unfair to give this record a 3....because it's better than that.
so I'll stand by the 4.5 stars.....I think there's a few songs that aren't as good as the others....but to me it's a very well balanced record, a LOT of great music...and the few songs that are maybe a little too generic for me....are still good songs and I found myself singing and rocking out to it....without even noticing while walking through the house....so who I am I to say...clearly some part of my brain connected to it.
:)
now this was what I'd mentioned before to you Chip in person....with the new Van Halen out this year...and both of these bands have HUGE 70's legacies.....how do the two compare....well first off...I really like the new Van Halen record.....but after listening to the KISS record several times and then going back to the Van Halen record.....for whatever reason, the KISS album seemed to have more DEPTH. I am not totally sure if it's because the KISS record is brand new to me, and I've heard the VH record more times...or what exactly this means to me....but I did feel in some weird way I liked the KISS record a little more.
Eddie's playing and David Lee Roth are awesome on the new VH record...but right now I've got KISS edging them out by a small margin.
we'll see if this sticks after a few more listens to each.
but yeah. Monster....does live up to KISS' hype. It's a great record and they should be proud of it. Live I'd like to see them play a good chunk of songs off it...I don't know with their HUGE catalog of hits and "must plays" if that would ever happen...but I'd have no problem hearing 5 or 6 of these songs live when they tour/
-
Well, you already know my views of Van Halen's A Different Kind Of Truth and how much I have already dissected that album since the day it came out. So, I can say 100% that Monster is in fact the better album. And you are spot on that this one is a more balanced album from start to finish and why it plays better.
All the influences you mentioned is exactly what I heard. If I had to say that there was one song that sound closest to vintage KISS, it would be All For The Love Of Rock and Roll. Who would have guessed that it would be the Eric Singer song to be the one. You were asking me which song was the one that Tommy sings lead vocals on, it's Outta This World and your right, his vocals are very similar to Paul's. Speaking of Tommy, he may just have done the impossible and created an identity all his own. Now all he has to do is shed the 'Space Ace' costume and dress in an original design of his own. I say create a Jaime St. James character and go as that.
-
I'm a Tommy fan now.
I don't have any problem with him being the spaceman.
never thought I'd say that....but the reality is....drugs and alcohol did take their toll on the two members who aren't in the band anymore....and they never would have been able to put this album together with them.
I really couldn't say what a true all original KISS member album would be like in 2012....we'll never know...and in some ways I think that's better....let the original legacy live on...and I am fine with this new incarnation.
I think the younger blood and fanship both Eric and Tommy have for the band...ends up being a big strength.
so amazingly I am on board for this incarnation of the band.
KISS 2012 you won me over
:)
-
I'll get the names of the songs down...and post more thoughts on specific songs...give me a week or so to listen to it a few more times....and I'll pay attention to the track listings...I have thoughts for each of the songs...I just don't know the proper names.
:)
-
KISS 2012 you won me over
:)
Hell hath frozen over........
-
or Halleluiah has frozen over/
:)
-
I know you don't know the names yet, but what's your favorite song right now? Mine is still Eat Your Heart Out.
-
probably the one with the Helter Skelter riff...and then goes into the Michael Schenker thing
great tune.
going to draw and listen to it right now...
-
Halloween is fast approaching. You need to get some grease paint so you can dress up like Tommy Thayer. You see what I just did there? Eh? (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/HTL_wink.gif)
-
it's the second track on the first side that I was referring to above BUT and it's a BIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGG BUT
..and I absolutely love the last song on that side that Paul sings....LONG WAY DOWN/. whoa like where the **** did they pull that out from???
I mean that song is about as good as it **** gets.
seriously...it's AMAZING!!
-
yeah Long Way Down....my favorite track off side 1.
-
I wonder if the Vinyl version has a different track order compared to the CD. They have switched it up before.
-
totally possible.
-
Currently cherry picking songs from Monster. Right now I am zeroed in on Wall Of Sound. Gene's voice sound f*cking awesome on this one!! It just sucks that the song is so damn short. Under 3 minutes! Bah!! (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/banghead.gif)
-
Okay, currently got Outta This World on constant loop. It's very catchy and the closet thing to the albums lone "pop" song. Great job Tommy. No disrespect to Tommy, but while listening to this song over and over, this is a song that Ace would definitely have written and sung on not just a KISS album, but his own solo stuff. There are parts in the song that Tommy actually sounds very Ace-like, and other parts a lot like Paul. And this is meant as a compliment, not a negative.

popping on Anomaly right this moment.

No sh*t, huh? Print them out and then stuff them into the cover. (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/HTL_wink.gif)
-
are those each a magazine cover?
would be cool to get them/
-
Yeah, but no one around here carries that mag. You'd have to hit one of the book chains is my guess and I don't think Borders is around anymore. I wouldn't know, I haven't been out to Fashion Valley in over a year and a half. Bookstar may carry it though.
-
one other very kick ass thing for me this year...was Soundgarden has a new album coming out in about 3 weeks...so going back to that e mail I sent you....lots of old school goodies raised their head this year!
and the new steve vai album is super kick ass...did you ever listen to it? what did you think?
gotta look for that magazine....I'd only want it if I could get all 4.
-
All I gotta say is that while I do like the entire Monster album, my cherry picked songs are "All for the Love of Rock & Roll", "Outta This World", "Back to the Stone Age" & "Take Me Down Below" \m/ o.O \m/
-
I would have liked to get my hands on those 4 covers to Classic Rock, would have been cool to add them to my collection...
-
I would have liked to get my hands on those 4 covers to Classic Rock, would have been cool to add them to my collection...
eBay. That's where I go to find stuff and you know people will have them up eventually if they don't already.
-
Yeah, I did see them on eBay once before when they first came out, but they were like $100.00 - $120.00 for the 4 of them...pricey for a poor white boy :)
-
I got the group cover shot...but didn't see the singles anywhere....the entire stack at bookstar was all the entire band.
-
Yeah, I saw the group shot cover at Books-A-Million and passed it up. The single member issues have a featured article about the particular member on the cover.
-
ah crap I did not know that (it's me Mike by the way if you didn't guess (Rich)
I think the coolest KISS collectible(s) I saw this year was those individual KISS Statues. I posted some photos and was telling Chip like a lot of statues, you know you see them online and they look pretty good, or not so good....but these in person were just amazing...I really had never seen any KISS larger figures done so well.
no photo I've seen really does them Justice
http://www.everythingkiss.com/Play/Play/ActionFigures_files/toys_sideshownew.jpg
but the down side was the were VERY expensive...I think the full set was $1500 or something like that.

KISS - Heaven's On Fire (Swedish TV - 1984)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0mra_wTfgo
Another gem that I've never seen before.
-
can you imagine how much hot poon they got in Sweden in 1984>>> OH MY GOD!!
-
I'm sure the entire band and the roadies had their way with that chick.
-
there's almost NO bad looking people in Sweden...which from what I heard weighs in favor for Paul.
;)
hahahahaha
but seriously....like 90% of the girls over there under the age of 25 are smoking hot.
dudes too (for Paul)
;)
-
you may have this...I'd never seen this before
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpQP7hl0pKs
-
It looks somewhat familiar. I taped everything whenever they were on TV. Gonna check it out now and see if I remember any of it.
-
I get the feeling this isn't from the US...Paul's hair is amazing on this!!
-
Eric Carr is still the KING of Metal Hair! He has enough hair to service a wig shop and make some serious bank.
-
I've had friends like that...it's like their head of hair is in fact 3 heads of hair...lucky bastards!!
-
imagine the secrets Gene's hair stylist could tell
http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=j8LhK0fGih0&feature=endscreen
-
I will say Paul's hair line is actually about 2 inches further up now (then the video there in 1990) even brushed straight back and short in 2012...so something is totally up there for sure.
-
I actually posted that French makeup clip awhile back. As for the other clip, I've never seen that one before. At first, based on the screencap, I thought that maybe it was one of their Night Flight cameos.
-
have you seen this CBR interview...it's pretty cool

Eric Carr - Tale Of The Fox (Documentary)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TYdw4AjFs4
Here's the 90 minute Documentary on Eric. I've seen it a couple of times already. The production value isn't the best, but the story is fantastic and everyone should check it out at least once.
-
I noticed today although it will come up...Gene's solo album will not work on youtube anymore....it's been pulled down in the US...and probably everywhere else actually.
interesting to note both Ace and Paul's DO still work and are very easy to find and have been on youtube for months.
-
F*ck the YouTube PoPo. I will check out the CBR interview in a bit. Gonna re-watch Tale Of The Fox....again.
-
this is pretty funny

The CBR interview was pretty good. Gene took that host to school on the history of Archie. Suck it!

hahhaha yeah that was funny.

KISS - Take It Off (Uncensored Version)

I never ever want to hear that KISS doesn't do things to make this world a better place to live in. P.S., I never get tired of re-posting this video.

love this...of course the second it started...my kid ran in

I hadn't even clicked play though..I sort of mistyped what happened......I was just writing a reply, and about to fire it up...so not totally busted!

Creatures Of The Night Era Interview (1983)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wyrc0MTsM4s
I commend both Gene and Paul for keeping their cool here. Had I been on the other side of this "reporter's" extremely rude questions, I would have ripped his head off. At least Paul got in a couple of digs at his expense.
-
classic case of an interviewer who doesn't know **** about his subject matter...and just wants to impress his own peers and not do a proper interview.
lame...but still a cool old clip/!
-
Yeah, I don't get the hostility. F*ck em I say!
-
KISS - All Hell's Breakin' Loose
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWOYT3n06x0
Best. Rapper. Ever! Eminem and 50 Cent got nothing on Paul, Boooooooy-eeeeeeeeee!!
-
In some weird way I love KISS now more than ever.
I love the fact they are still rocking too.
and I will say this....did a few nights with Monster on headphones...Tommy shreds on the album....and it's crazy because the song he sings I actually thought was Gene before I read the liner notes.....
-
I thought it was Paul the first time hearing the song, but half way through it I realized it was Tommy. Really not sure how you "heard" Gene in that song though. I would have said it was Doc McGhee before Gene.
-
not sure...it sounded like mellow Gene to me for some odd reason
(my ears aren't what they used to be....)...will listen again thinking it's Paul and see if I can hear that more
my only and biggest concern for KISS is Paul's voice live...I've said it before, but he's got some serious, serious issues going on and I fear touring really is going to just make it worse...my hope is he can get surgery and maybe with some proper time and exercise it can get smoother.
-
He better or he is going to end up sounding just like Joe Elliot. Ugh.
-
Hell or HALLELUJAH is awesome
:)
-
You sound like you've been a KISS fan for awhile now.
-
I think Long Way Down is still my favorite on the record...that song really gets me!
-
Gene Simmons / Paul Stanely (Metal Head Segment - 1990)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBHteb2Ymw0
Very cool "interview". I've never seen this particular segment before. The only interview that I saw before when it aired, that was actually on the set of Rise To It, was with Malcolm Jamal Warner of all people. For those not in the know, that would be Theo Huxtable.
-
I got busy and wasn't able to finish the album...but I'll check it out tonight....very interested to listen now that I've read your review (again) and it's fresh in my mind/
-
I just re-read my review for the first time since actually writing it. Damn typo's! I write too fast and then click Post immediately without proof reading them. Ack!! I might give it a spin as well. But I'm actually thinking of spinning Psycho Circus first after reading review. Ha.

Three Sides of the Coin With Special Guest Bruce Kulick
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_04star.gif)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMtWPln1sno
First off, I have to say that I do like the concept of fans doing their own podcast and most of what they have online is usually connected to KISS one way or another. But it's very rare that I can get deep into any of their podcast because frankly, they suck. The 3 guys are always stepping on each others toes because each one thinks they should be heard, which brings to light that their setup doesn't work. Sure, it's easier for a guest to come on the show when all they have to do is turn on their webcam and just do the interview from home or wherever. But with 4 people in 4 different locations, it becomes a guessing game as to when and who should ask the questions. There is no eye contact, which is usually a visual cue when to chime in and ask a question or ask followup question to a previous answer.
Also, the 3 guys that run their little podcast as pretty useless and the one guy with the goatee (Michael) is one of the worst "interviewers" ever. The guy is a joke and doesn't really know anything. I can't stand him and the fact that he thinks he is knowledgeable. He's not. The 'Real Estate' guy (Tommy) has a better understanding of what the band is and isn't. Of the three, I would say that Mitch is the best...but that's not saying much based on who I'm comparing him to.
So, why this little rant of these guys before diving into the Bruce Kulick portion of the show? To drive home the fact that it's a great interview. Don't misinterpret that the 3 host were the reason. They aren't. They contributed absolutely nothing to the actual interview at all and in most cases, they made themselves look dumb whenever trying to ask questions. If they were actually listening to what Bruce was talking about, they would have known he already answered questions that that they just asked about. As for Bruce, he OWNED the 90 minute show. Turn on the mic and just let him tell KISS stories as he chose to do so. Bruce was fantastic here. I've always enjoyed listening to him talk over the years. He never really got to shine, interview-wise, when he was in the band. But since then, he has shown that he has plenty to say and I for one would absolutely Buy his book if and when he does get around to writing it.
If you're a fan of KISS or Bruce, this is definitely worth a listen. The podcast would have gotten 5 Stars had it just been Bruce all alone, talking to the fans. But it gets only 4 Stars because of the useless Amigo's that really don't add anything to the festivities. My 2 Cents.

Bruce Kulick Interview, discussing the mystery of Mark St. Johns hand ailment

Nothing new, but still interesting to hear Bruce talking about the least known former member of KISS; Mark St. John.

Bullsh*t.....I mean, BullKISS (http://ultimateclassicrock.com/kiss-bull-riding/)
Shout out to Mac for tipping me off to this. So funny and so cool. Hahahahahaha.
-
that Bass is bad ass....cool to see Joe is a KISS fan!
-
it looks like photoshop though (the bulls)...is it real?
-
Well, I think they are using this to hype the event, but will in fact have the make up on come showtime.
-
might as well have done it for the promo pics I think

Have you ever met a Bull that didn't try to kill you for trying to put KISS makeup on them? (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/IWannaRockAndRollAllNite.gif)

after seeing the tears are falling video I feel like I want a rum and coke or something in a pineapple oh goodness I agree completely with your review of the record. I think there's some very good songs, Bruce is excellent on guitar, but I could see how it was just an excuse to put out a record and then go on tour. It's definitely not a bad album and I think three and a half stars is a very solid and fair grade for it. The clothes in that video are horrendous Paul's neon green gloves and pink jacket are just grim reminders of how disconnected I got to see my favorite bands look that way
KISS (Asylum) 1985
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_03halfstar.gif)
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1985Asylum.jpg) (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/CD%20and%20Album%20Covers/KISS%20500%20By%20500%20Large%20Scans/1985AsylumBackCover.jpg)
Ack!!
-
For me Asylum was at the time it came out, a 5 Star album and for many years that followed. As a whole, it just doesn't stand the test of time today because it has a very 'Glam' approach to both songwriting and playing and is as far removed from classic KISS as you're gonna get. Well, Crazy Nights is really bad. Having said that, a couple of songs on Asylum are still some personal faves of mine that to this day, I still listen to. Tears Are Falling and Who Wants To Be Lonely still get plenty of spins. Every once in a while, Trial By Fire finds its way into the mix as well.
So, what grade are you gonna give it?
-
Same as you. I'd give it 3.5. I like it. Just the production sucks on some of it.
-
Just the production sucks on some of it.
Oh, you're gonna LOOOOOOOVE Crazy Nights then. *Snickers*
-
Ya never told me what your favorite song is off of Asylum.
-
too soon on this one I am afraid. I didn't have any unmasked moments...with that record several songs immediately got me and I liked them right off the bat.
for this record...the hits are in fact the hits....we'll see what else claims my attention.
-
Animalize is still on the way....we'll see what that record brings for me!

KISS Revisits Dressed To Kill Costumes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slaZDsRkysA
I've seen photo stills of this event a month or so ago, but this is the first I'm seeing the film itself. Really not sure exactly what the purpose is of the film, but it looks awesome. I love that they kept it black and white in keeping in line with Dressed To Kill. It would have been better had Peter and Ace been involved with this.
-
it's an ad for designer suits...as much as it hearkens back to Dressed To Kill....it wasn't put on by KISS. It was put on by the designer....not sure he's really a fan of the band or more the "iconography" of it...but it is really cool. Ace would look like sh!t anyway...lets face it...the guy is not in fighting shape to be in something like this right now.
-
Fat Ace > Skinny anyone.
-
he needs a lot of work...his hair in nearly gone...and he's just totally bloated. I love the guy but he's not ready to be in KISS that way.....as much as Gene and Paul aren't what they once were....Ace is even further out
:)
but I'd agree Ace over anyone else...just not right now
:)
-
Ace should be in Chickenfoot.
-
what would be an awesome band for him...he's so good solo...I can't really see him in some super group etc...he needs to sing of have Gene or Paul basically....like I can't think of a lead singer where I go..."oh he'd be perfect to front the new project"
that's a tough one.

Gene Simmons gets called out by a fan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNw0Vc3eywQ
Not a "meltdown" per se, but Gene's reaction is why I don't seek out celebrities in general. You just don't know how they are going to react and I feel bad for that one dude that Gene was claiming to be something he was not and he even had a KISS tattoo to prove it. I met Gene once and I got lucky in that he didn't do anything like this. Eric Singer on another day and time was very cool and actually had time for small talk. I get where Gene is coming from, but there is something that is pretty simple to do if he wants to make harder for them to flip on eBay and that would be to just personalized it. Not many people out there are going to want a signed item with someone else's name on it. Sure, this would mean that it will take twice as long to get through each person, but I would think that is a small price to pay if it meant keeping his name (Gene) out of the mud, so that people wouldn't attack him for it be it in person or online.
-
you can never win arguing with a fan./
ever.
professional handling of your sh*t 101.
not matter how right or wrong...the second you debate a no one...every thing YOU do as the 'star" is in question...not the douche bag arguing with you because let's face it...who cares if he's right or wrong./
F$$$ this "fan"
so he spent $450 on a bad tattoo.
who cares.

I was searching online for some Eric Carr stuff last night looking to see if I could find any film footage of Eric's first show with KISS and stumbled across this awesome fan-made Alternate Cover for Dynasty. I like it. And no, couldn't find any footage. Ack!

Stuart Bull meets Tommy Thayer of KISS (Part 2)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziNfncdfQuA
I was able to watch this yesterday as I finally got time to go through a bunch of stuff that I had save to Roku. Props to BoyinBlack for sending me the links. As for the interview itself, I thought Tommy came across great. Like I've said before, I don't have a problem with him as a musician or him even being in KISS. The makeup thing is another story and it's not his fault that Gene and Paul are giving him money hand over fist to wear the iconic costume. No need to go any further than that. I really did like listening to what Tommy had to say. What I don't like about the interview has nothing to do with him, but everything to do with Stuart. I can't stand him. He doesn't know how to "interview" people in general.
He's not "listening" to a f*cking word Tommy is saying. He is just waiting for his turn to speak. I lost count how many times he would step on Tommy as he was telling a very engaging story, one that I wanted to hear, just to have him try to "move on" to something else. He did this so many times throughout the interview, you could see that Tommy was getting a bit annoyed. Hell, he even told Stuart "..wait, I'm not done telling my story" or "....I have more to talk about". Stuart looks like he is a cool dude, but that doesn't make him good at what he does. Prior to this interview, I have seen a few of his other interviews with other musician's and it's the same problem. Sorry, had to get that off my chest as I can't sit back and rave about something 100% if there are things that I find annoying. But Tommy was awesome. He owned it, just like Bruce Kulick did on that show that I refuse to name. ;)
-
Tommy seems like a cool dude.
the interviewer is sort of a typical English reporter...it's all agenda driven...he's dying to basically say "Tommy what do you think about fans hating you for playing the Spaceman"
that's what I got from him and the way he was listening and talking..he practically said it 2 or 3 times but always reworded it.

KISS intro Eric Carr - Kids Are People Too '80
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWNJ8Ndh6kI
Just watching random KISS interviews and had to watch this one again. I STILL remember watching this "live" as it aired on Saturday and I was p*ssing myself silly. My first introduction to Eric Carr and up till this episode, I had no idea that Peter had left the band. I did hear that they had a falling out, but I never expected him to really leave the band. So yeah, it was a huge shock for me. I didn't have access to the world of KISS and hadn't seen much in the papers about this new guy in the band either.

Eric Carr
(http://i.imgur.com/fmilMlr.jpg)
Very kool Eric Carr Collage I found online today. As ugly as it was, it would have been nice to have his original make up design on display here.
-
it makes his eyes look very close together.
cool photos though!
-
The bottom right was one of the earliest ones after the initial design and I'm glad that he eventually dialed down the Orange outline. It was too much. Ironically enough, it's what I hate about Eric Singers design....TOO MUCH GREEN!
-
yeah for sure....waaaaaay too much green
didn't Peter originally have a brownish color around his eyes....I saw an early shot from the dynasty cover shoot and his make up was not green in the photo...it was a rush color and not a very big chunk of it either...was a smaller amount.
I need to surf f*cking FAQ on my computer but as soon as I am done working...I want out of my office immediately. I spend way too much time in here as it is!!

KISS - Unholy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfmrX_WlM2w
THIS is how I want to remember the Replacement KISS. Great f*cking song and when you really listen to it, it's THE LAST GREAT KISS song they recorded, all aplogies to Monster and Sonic Boom lovers out there. But there is no getting around the fact that Revenge just kicks ass and Unholy is THE song off the album.

Guitar World Magazine Cover - April, 2014
(http://i.imgur.com/O3BnghI.jpg)
Saw this on the stands today. I didn't get to read the main article (two separate interviews with Gene and Paul). But I did read the sidebar where both Gene and Paul rate each guitar player that has played with KISS. Each one is bascially the same "review" as all the sound bites you have heard over the years: "Ace, when he was on was brilliant. Threw his gift away for booze and drugs". "Vinnie, talented songwriter and singer, but was incredible difficult to work with". "Mark sounds like a busy bee. Can't play the same thing twice because he just plays random notes".
But it was Bruce's review that kind of took me back. Gene kind of throws him under the bus saying he can't sing and doesn't do the "rockstar poses". Really Gene? You're going to talk smack about Bruce when he has done nothing to rock your boat? F*ck, what a douche. This was about rating their guitar playing and not singing. And there is a thing called tact. Try using it Gene. Regardless if he can sing or not, this wasn't the place to do it. This has been a horrible 2 weeks to be a KISS fan. Whatever respect I had for them as "people" as long evaporated in 14 days. Of course both Paul and Gene give Tommy the most "glowing" review of the bunch.

KISS - Gene & Paul KISS Convention Raid - 1994
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BBEO-3_dgw&list=PLp2e7UfInEgmB-5r4rtQOEsq-H-mNmQhk&index=48
So ironic that today of all days (KISS Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Ceremony....currently happening), I would sit down to watch this particular gem that is the stuff of legend. I've seen a couple of small soundbites of this Raid, but this is the first time I'm seeing the entire 20 minute clip of Paul and Gene basically taking back on their KISS memorabilia that was "stolen". The fans are f*cking annoying as hell. No wonder Celebs want nothing to do with them. Who wants to reward behaviour like that? Constantly SCREAMING their name over and over. I wanted to punch the guy that was clearly filming it all.

Listening to this right now. It should be good. I've always enjoyed listening to Bruce talk.
-
Great interview with Bruce. He always has some cool story to talk about and it's not something you've heard a million times before. He does address some of the Vinnie Vincent rumors regarding the recording of Unholy. Yes, it's all Bruce. Definitely check out the interview, there are plenty of other KISS related stories he has to share.

Alternate Kisstory: Tommy Thayer, Eric Singer & Bruce Kulick Speak Out (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/alternate-kisstory-tommy-thayer-eric-singer-bruce-kulick-speak-out-20140531)
It's been ALL ABOUT Gene, Paul, Peter and Ace for the last few months and rightly so. It's about time that the other guys (Singer, Thayer and Kulick) got to air out some of their own thoughts on the Reunion and the Makeup issue. Overall, it's an interesting Q&A, but nothing that surprised me. I knew that Singer and Thayer would basically defend their position of wearing Peter and Ace's iconic makeup design and they should defend their reasons. But I did find it very humorous and ironic that when Singer is asked which line up was his favorite, he chose the Original.
Reading the interview or seeing them talking on camera, Singer, Thayer and Kulick have to play nice and say the right things. Although Kulick is just a good guy that he never says anything bad. But there will come a time when each one has a tell-all book and I can't wait to read what they reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally think. I don't buy it for one second that Singer and Thayer are happy wearing the Cat and Spaceman makeup, regardless of how many times they say it's just a "job". I like Bruce's interview the best, but it's getting weirder and weirder as time goes by how much more detail him and others are opening up about Eric Carr. It's not old news. We all know about it. But before, there was a time when the skeletons in the closet said in the closet. Now, it's like in every interview it seems.

4th and Loud Promo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17pak3lIKrY&index=3&list=WL
I find it ironic and funny that Paul, who blast Gene in his book for doing a reality show, said himself he would NEVER do one. Ack! Money talks indeed. With that said, I doubt either Gene or Paul will be featured in the show all that much since it's about making stars of the team to get people through the turnstiles.

Eric Carr Discussion: Decibel Geek Podcast - Episode 19
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJMWy-u0oow&index=29&list=PLp2e7UfInEgmB-5r4rtQOEsq-H-mNmQhk
Great interview with Loretta Caravello, the sister of Eric Carr. She talked about a lot of fun, cool stories about him. Looks like we are getting a new CD using demos of his material over the years. Also on deck are trading cards, a coffee table book and maybe a statue of Eric Carr ala Sideshow type of end product. She was very open about everything. Well, almost everything. She wouldn't talk about the "rumor" regarding Eric getting fired on his death bed over health insurance. She did however talk about the rumor regarding Vinnie Vincent "owning" the Fox makeup and character design. He doesn't.

Sweet! I'll check this out !!

Gene Simmons "KISS" Makeup Tutorial
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1cC15UrKi4
Because the people at Penny Can demanded it, I give you Gene Simmons Makeup tutorial. This is actually damn cool to watch. I've been a fan of KISS for 40 years and this is the first time I have ever seen anyone in the band give a proper Makeup tutorial. Sure, I've seen a few short clips of them backstage prior to a show putting on makeup and giving a few pointers. But they have never gone into great detail as Gene does here. Sophie actually looks more like the Demon than Gene does. The only thing that would have made this clip even better is if Sophie demanded that Gene do Peter or Ace's Makeup instead. ;D FYI, there are some great KISS Makeup Tutorials that I've watched over the years on YouTube by fans and they are very impressive as well. Go check them out.

I saw this earlier today actually...very funny...
although gene needs to shut his trap...talking sh*t about Robin Williams was not cool.

MOMOIRO CLOVER Z vs KISS - YUMENO UKIYONI SAITEMINA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivJZljEostE
I've been following this collab for the past month or so as they have been releasing teaser clips of the forthcoming song. As odd as this pairing may seem on paper as well as vinyl, this is exactly the sort of thing I expect from KISS, especially Gene Simmons. He is all about globalization and marketing the KISS brand name. This is just another way to get there.
-
I'd been meaning to check this stuff out...was this the only song they did..? wasn't there something called Samurai Son? or is this the same tune?
I heard or read online it's one of the best KISS songs to come out in a while...wait I think that's some Paul McCartney song they did...I haven't heard it though.

Kiss - Don't Touch My Ascot
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFSaKL5dFgc
My first reaction to hearing this new song was 'What the fuuuuuuuuuuck'. Now it's growing on me. Looks like VH and Happy Trails have some serious competition. The one thing this song needs is a blistering solo from Vinnie.
;D
-
yeah I like it.
wasn't sure what to expect...but a few seconds in you get the idea it's not going to be a rocker...so I didn't like go what the hell all the way through.
there's a nice breakdown of who starts where on one youtube video.
I thought they all sang very well

Ace Frehley: 50-50 Chance I'll Be Back in KISS
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lz1rslWiPxw
Oh....it WILL happen. Mark my words. The fact that Gene would get off his ass and go see Ace in concert says more about what's really happening than Ace still being friends with Paul. Tommy needs to start sending out resumes to Starbucks. His days are numbered.
-
It's gotta be stressful for Tommy the most. His worst nightmare was Ace getting sober, releasing 2 records and touring without any major f-ups.. I am sure each announcement was like deth nils for him. Like oh crap...please mess up. Peter still won't be back. Eric I am sure feels a bit more secure.

listening to Lick It Up right now....so I cheated on my "all day Ace" binge!!
"you gotta show your stuff"
:)
-
I'll never object to you listening to Lick It Up. It's an awesome album. You know, it's just odd that this is really the ONLY album from start to finish that Vinnie made that kicks ass from the first song to the last.
-
I know...it was very good.
I followed it up with Unmasked! hahaha

I followed it up with Unmasked! hahaha
That's like going from T-Bone Steak to Bologna.

it's funny how much parts of it remind me of Rick Springfield's music.

If Jesse's Girl was on Unmasked, then we can start bumping the album up a bit in the overall ranking.

That's what she said.

watching this now.
damn Paul is awesome on this....wasn't sure what to expect but he's being super cool and isn't rehashing all his "kiss-isms"
so it's a very VERY good interview!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CloACp5JXBE
-
damn.
this is seriously a great interview...Paul is so candid and it's a real conversation
sadly Gene will still talk in circles and tell you the same stuff he's said for 25 years
hahaha
:P
-
I'll check this out later tonight for sure. As for Gene, I stopped listening to anything he had to say years ago. I only listen to Tommy if I want to know what's what.
-
did you hear about Gene is finally doing a solo rarities box set...and he's going to charge anywhere from 10K to 50K and he will HAND deliver it to you???
the guy is nuts...curious about his box set it's supposed to be tons of his demos etc...but my fear is...it will be like $350-1000 which I will never be able to afford.
:(

that vault limited edition is going to be $2500 seeing this
f*** me!!!!!!!
-
I just want to be clear...his final words in the song at the end of the clip are "I love it when you place your steamy p-i-s-s flaps around my nose"
what is gods green earth is this guy ON?????????
NO drugs????????..he's a damn crazy person!!!!!!!!!
-
He's f*cking delusional. No one and I mean NO ONE is going to pay anywhere near that and that includes KISS diehards. I'll just wait for them to make their way to YouTube. All free.
-
someone commented online about that one rap band...that did 1 copy of their new album and I think sold it for 2 million dollars...
maybe wu tang...I can't remember...I think Gene is kind of hoping for that kind of thing.
10 CDs is a LOT of stuff...I am wondering how long each disc is...35 minutes each would only be over 7 hours which isn't really that much. I don't need 6 scrapped versions
of some crappy old song.
;)
you know speaking of that. I saw this online a few weeks back. I only skimmed it...but it's like a 7 HOUR rehearsal for Dynasty.
it's legit too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYsVRweAfgQ
hopefully you've not got this. I like sharing things with you...you might have missed!
-
I need the 10 hour Destroyer sessions next
:)
-
Definitely Wu Tang and it was Pharma Bro that bought it. I never thought I'd be talking about that douche in a KISS thread!
-
hahahaha
7 hour Dynasty session
Peter is so worthless in it..it's kinda sad how checked out the dude was.
-
Gene dropped the news that in the Vault he WILL be releasing the often rumored 1977 demo of Love Gun with Eddie Van Halen and Alex Van Halen.
that should be interesting!!
100K for that track
:0

Won't believe it until it's out.

Gene Simmons Of KISS Talks About New Box Set Of Unreleased Songs | TODAY
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJm5o5Ce8r4
Gene Simmons....the originator of the "Duck Face" needs to stop "dancing" whenever he is introduced on shows like this. I want 1975 Demonic Gene! Bring HIM back! Okay, with that said.....enjoy the show.
-
Gene invented the box.
;)
and then spent the 70-90's trying to get back into it
hahaha
-
hahahahahahaha
this is priceless.
I could almost go sentence by sentence...
one demo of Love Gun is what's in there with the Van Halen boys (unless he's got....MORE??) ...honestly...there's a demo already out which might be IT (ie Love Gun demo)!!
He's been dreaming of this since he was a KID?? He dreamed of doing a 10 CD box set that is grossly overpriced and in a VAULT~~!!
;)
he's funny and a great showman.

Gene Simmons Shows Off His $2,000 'Vault' Box Set

No one is going to pay that kind of money. Not gonna happen. Unless there is a KISS fan in Saudi Arabia that has money to throw away and just wants to hang with Gene for a couple of hours.
-
man Gene is such a jerk/
so rude and disconnected to the guy who's trying to be pretty nice and interview him
and promote HIS product.
as far as the box. I'd say $500 tops.
get rid of all the garbage in it...no one wants.

Gene Simmons on KISStory, Trump, Terrorism + Jamming With Ace Frehley

An interesting (finally) interview with Gene....but Graham steals the show with a couple of well-timed jokes that kills.

KissFAQ Gene Simmons Vault Songs & Stories footage clip
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VSMF2HPNis
WTF! Bruce, Ace, Eric and Gene sharing the same stage together? Just seeing Bruce and Ace part of this makes this a great clip. I heard that Vinnie was way in the back of the crowd....hiding of course. ;D
-
This is the weekend we've been waiting for, for 30 years!! Vinnie Vincent.
The guy I inked recently who drew kinda like early McFarlane is going. He's ALSO doing the Gene Simmons Vault experience on Sunday in Detroit. Talk about a KILLER weekend!@
He's got the Wiz and Demon stacked!!
He also told me Ace Frehley is going to be on the next KISS Kruise. He thinks some big news is coming right after that. He said the end is almost here for KISS and they might make the move. "We'd like to turn the microphone over to...."
I'll be looking for VV news all weekend!!

I know you've probably saved this and watched this...but I was popping this on for the first time today to actually listen to it
Gene and Ace together is so cute.
I said it CUTE!!

You do realize that this will probably go down as the greatest KISS Expo ever right?
-
I do. And trust me. Peter ain't happy about it!
;)
-
Part 3 is up for that Bruce kulick interview I'm on my phone right now my computer is shut down so you should add it up!!

Well, the fact that Peter played Stutter the other day makes it feel like he was at the Expo.

Who knew 40 years later it would STILL be this much fun!@@

If this mega KISS Tour happens with all living members participating.....I'm getting front row seats. The ultimate swan song for the band.

I'd be down. There's something in my life I could sell!!

very rare footage shown at the show

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWmS9xm0LW0
enjoy!
I think this is some special thing that's going to be called "Kiss alive forever" (a video/ DVD thing not the book)
the guy who's doing it is that e bay seller...who sells like REALLY rare KISS items for astronomical prices (he's been on there for years)...so he's kind of a douche and most KISS fans
kind of hate him....but the fact is...he's gets the rare stuff and seems to have it always coming his way.
"Curt Gooch" is his name...even sounds like a villain!! This thing will probably be hundreds of dollars nothing he does is affordable.
-
the book info is actually interesting...so here's part 1 and 2...well worth watching
Gooch is the fat one but the other guy and him did it together. I tip my hat for their hard work honestly
what they did together is amazing.

It's a pretty fun listen and it's something that they devoted years and years to they basically documented every live show that kiss had ever done to the best of their ability going through old microfiche at libraries and what not it's pretty incredible.

Gene Simmons and Ace Frehley - COMPLETE Miami Vault Q&A and Jam

The fact that Ace and Gene are taking this Acoustic set across the country just confirms that a major announcement is coming that has nothing to do with the KISS Kruise.

people online are going "this sucks you paid 50K for this??"
it's like...ok Gene and Ace CAME to this freaking guys HOUSE and hung out for a few hours...
I think it's totally worth it (in that fantasy scenario) just to shoot the sh*t with them for a few minutes and to actually be in a home with them.
haters gonna hate though./
you get 10 friends to all chip in 5K and you are there...you'd remember it forever,.

Now I am watching Cracking the Code (well listening) I am a guitar JUNKY!!!!!!!!!!!
Troy Grady is so coooool~~
ok watching these kids NOW
-
These kids are sharp and consistent....when the kids that like them don't like a track...the kid
who doesn't like them...thinks it's better!!
hahaha
-
Our generation goes gaga for KISS. This generation is meh for them. Different strokes....
-
you know...my take away from that was MOST of those kids liked it...only the two boys seemed sort of like they didn't
and who knows if they even LIKE any music.
everyone else seemed to at the least have a song or two they liked
Forever got creamed and seen for what it was...that was pretty funny.
-
KISS has always been guilty of jumping on whatever bandwagon was in vogue to redirect course to get new followers. First it was Discp, then Glam, then Acoustic and finally Grunge. Kids knew exactly what Forever was. Their BS radar was spot on.
-
it's sad how inept KISS fans are at filming this s***

They are so old that they still believe there is nothing better than 8mm technology.

he opens with Rocket Ride!

She wants a Rocket Ride...she wants a Rocket Ride!!
I bet she does.
-
That thumbnail is kind of wacky but honestly Ace looks really good in the show like he still looks like he he's handsome....pretty.
He's got really good facial structure. It's a shame his face is so tore up.
Richie Scarlett rips it up too. He's great.
-
this is awesome
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zVrPf6FreY
and this guy is great and has an awesome tone and plays these solos great
apparently Bruce Kulick actually plugged the guys video on facebook when he saw it...that must have been really cool for this guy

I still have the original VHS tape of Bruce's instructional tape.

I figured you would have that
what year did that come out originally?
it's awesome...I listened to the whole thing just this morning...I'd spin it again any time
great playing and great teacher/
-
I don't have exact release date on that, but I would say early 90's for sure.
-
yeah for some reason I was thinking 1990...but I bet it was a tiny bit after that!
really cool...I think I saved it twice now

Never heard about the Ben Stiller story. Sounds exactly like something Gene would do. As for those first 2 docs, I saw the first long time ago. Recently saw the 2nd one but didn't get too far in that one. Haven't had time to check out Ace's new album yet. May try to this weekend.
-
Vinnie postponed his show until February. So people who got hotels and flights set up to fly to Nashville in December are fooked.
He announced his new band
Carmine Appice drums and on bass Tony Franklin. This line up I highly doubt will actually perform in February. They outclass Vinnie by a country mile.
-
There was and never will be a concert happening. He can't play. Unless he thinks fiddling with an amp for 10 minutes is "playing".

That's called a guitar solo.

it bothers me that many KISS fans don't like this song.
Lenny Kravitz said it was one of his favorites. I love it personally not a top KISS track but still a great song I'd never skip
thoughts?

It's a solid track. Not one that I seek out, but I don't think it deserves the bad wrap it gets.

we should start taking bets on when the VV show will be cancelled./ They asked the bass player Tony Franklin yesterday how rehearsals were going and he said there had been none.
crazy/ we should hook up in the next week or two. I've had a really bad dry spell way too much to type but crazy times in comics I will say that/

"Stephen Wilkie to VINNIE VINCENT'S...FULL SHREDD !!!!
3 mins ·
Full Shredd Members.
I wanted to share a bit of information about the singer announced for Vinnie's Nashville Shows.
The singer that has been announced was put in place by the promoter without the approval of Vinnie Vincent. Vinnie rejected this singer and opted for a full shredd show.
If the show takes place?
It will be within Vinnie's vision of a Shredd and Jam session with no singer.
As a huge Vinnie Vincent fan
its my opinion that these shows have not been handled the way I think Vinnie deserves and I believe many of you also feel the same way.
I have read many of the comments here on Full Shredd over the past few months and in other Fan groups.
And I share your frustration and discontent as well regarding these shows, not only over how bad this situation has been handled, but I share in the anger over this disorganized incompetent mess of a promoter whose every move not only creates a deeper hole for himself, but is dragging Vinnie into that same hole with him.
In hindsight this so called promoter should never have been given a second chance to redeem himself on Vinnie's name and reputation. in my opinion, he is a disgrace and should be ashamed of himself for doing this to Vinnie Vincent and to Vinnie’s fans as well who deserve better..
Vinnie is hopeful this promoter can get his act together and put on the show the way it should be put on under Vinnie’s vision, but unfortunately it doesn’t look that way and unfortunately in my opinion it may not happen. I think you would all agree that we don't want a substandard show with a substandard singer that the promoter is trying to force on Vinnie.
I appreciate all of you. The loyal members of Full Shredd.
Thanks so much !"
-
talk about bullpoop!!!!! :-[ :-[ :-[
-
As I said before, the show will not happen. Ever. I saw all I needed to see during the "soundcheck" video. If he can't even rip off a 5 note run...or a 4 note run....or even a 2 note run. Well, there's you answer to his inability to play anything beyond simple chords. Does the Promoter bare some responsibility? Sure. The guy is a joke, but even the "best promoter" in the world is not going to be able to make Vinnie suddenly learn how to play again. This is squarely on Vinnie's shoulders. It's his burden to carry. He knew all along that he couldn't play and chose to announce a VV Reunion when he came back into the public eye. I get that he got caught up in the moment and wanted to extend the fan adulation for a few more minutes of his long-forgotten 15 minutes of fame. But the fact that he has been purposely dragging fans around by the nose since then knowing he can't deliver just shows he hasn't changed at all in the 20 years he's been hiding.
With that said, I would love to be proven wrong and to eat my words and a show actually happens. But this is Vinnie. I kinda already know how this story ends.
-
right I totally agree...we always wanted him to return....I want this for the fans who spent the money and for VV
that letter sounds like it's written to convince 14 years olds..not adults who've dealt with VV nonsense before.

KISS Welcome Ace Frehley + Peter Criss to Join Farewell Tour
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uYr5HX445E
I never doubted that Ace and Peter would be invited. It's just now "official" with an open offer.
-
So is that an official announcement that Peter and Ace are coming on tour or is it just that the possibility is open?
-
From how I heard it, they will pop up here and there. Whatever City they choose I guess.
-
https://youtu.be/SnYvc80h86s.
So.....this just happened.
-
"Kiss they may look insane ..."
Actually I am quite sure they're all insane!!@@
Oh man. These guys just don't quit!!
Tommy, Eric Singer, and Bruce should start a band , leaves these clowns behind!!
-
I think why this is all going down now is that both Gene and Paul strung Ace along the last few years, making him believe he would be bwck as a full time member....and when the news broke today, etc....that's when reality smacked Ace. Hard. He got duped.
-
The theory is Rachel might have wrote that. Which might be true. These guys are so dysfunctional!...Vinnie must chuckling in his pant suit outfit somewhere in Nashville. So will Gene hold a grudge. My guess Ace will wiggle out of this and place the blame on Rachel. Funny Ace now has Gene's solo band and fired Richie Scarlett and company.
-
Well, the telling thing is that Ace told her not to pursue legal action for sexual harassment. Why? Because Ace didn't want to risk losing the chance of getting back into KISS. With the statement being released that he was and never will be asked back.....all bets are off now.
As you said, Ace, Peter and Bruce SHOULD put a band together and call it Wicked Lester II.
-
Wickedest Lester's
:o ;D

Ace Frehley accuses Gene Simmons of groping his wife in scathing Facebook post (https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/ace-frehley-accuses-gene-simmons-groping-wife-scathing-facebook-post-055124104.html)
When your story hits Yahoo News, you know sh*t just went National. This I think will catch on fire and put Gene right in the middle of the #metoo movement, more so than he already has been thus far.
-
Kiss tour starts in Vancouver today or tomorrow funny enough.
Lots of press.

Word!

good show. I liked overall what Trunk said./
-
I still do think that Ace will probly play at a couple of shows I think his hopes were that maybe he would be like a fulltime paid guest.
-
I wouldn't. Gene and Paul led him on and got vintage 59 Les Paul's out of it. F*ck that sh*t. I wouldn't do it. I want my guitars back motherf*ckers!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fVD9TO7XwM
-
There is something way off about that Show. I'm half way through it and I suspect that they are in fact using backing tracks because of the audio disparity between the music/singing and when Paul and Gene are talking in the mic. When the music is playing and they are singing, the audio drops substantially, but when they are talking, bantering, suddenly the audio of their voices spikes to the point to where I have to turn down the volume and then turn it way back up when the music kicks back in when they start to sing. Your thoughts?
-
hahaha
Gene walks away from the mic in War Machine and is still singing hahahahaha
they are 100% using tracks. Paul more than Gene...but Gene messed up big time on War Machine...it's so bad it's funny.
-
same show but further back....really great view and camera quality....plus solid audio...between the two you could make an insane edit
that's for sure
enjoy!!!!

man some great clips are coming out of Portland where they played last night
enjoy!!

-
Why is no one uploading Milli Vanilli? Didn't they open up for them?
-
FYI, I'm calling bullsh*t on this being the end for KISS. I fully expect them to do a long term residency in Vegas after this Tour wraps....which is the smart move to make. Can you imagine how much money they would be able to rake in? They would cut down the cost of tearing down the stage and having to move to another city and setting that up. The amount of stuff they move is insane. So, keep it in the same building with new people to perform to every night. They will rake in the money.
And down the street, over on Freemont Street....Frehley's Comet.
And further out.........way out in the Desert. Peter playing a Linn Drum Machine.
-
hahahahah
Vinnie will play the Bambi club in TJ

Paul Stanley CAUGHT Lip syncing on The End of The Road Tour
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-KGRW5b8TQ
LMAO
I can't help but laugh, but seriously, what the f*ck has become of my childhood heroes? How the f*ck did we end up here? KISS made their career off of being a 'Live' band. And now.........
*Sigh*
PAUL: You make me Lip-sync, baby all night! Voice like a recording and it doesn't sound right. 🤘😎🤘
-
There's even better fan shot footage of that mess up.
what's really funny is...they are only a few shows into the tour...I think there will be worse mess ups.
this is karma for all their smack talk over the years...they are going to take their "this is how the big boys do it" medicine. I am afraid.

This channel has some funny stuff...
lots of overlapping Paul's vocals from multiple shows which proves he's lip syncing.

KISS Singer Paul Stanley Goes Off On Peter Criss, Says He Has No Life
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewMsbz_nQPs
Ouch!

Paul sucks and is a bitter human. Shame on him!

You do know why Gene and Paul keep trashing Ace and Peter right? It's not what you think (Booze, drugs, them being lazy, etc....). It comes down to them getting sick of people asking them "when are Peter and Ace rejoining KISS?" That's kind of a slap in the face to them because Gene and Paul internally are saying WE ARE KISS!! WE ARE HERE RIGHT NOW! So when interviewers and fans alike constantly ask them about Peter and Ace, in their minds, it delegitimize's them and their version of KISS, which shows they are very thinned-skinned. And yes, their version of KISS is fake and they know it. So all they can do is constantly attack Peter and Ace to change the narrative.
How did we get here? My childhood heroes turned into this?
*Sigh*
-
No totally. I get that and trust me. Paul doesn't have to like Peter now. But he's a grown man. It makes him look like a d@ck attacking a guy who left the party and has said his piece as Paul did in his FIRST book. And since then Peter doesn't say a word about Paul or KISS. This new Paul book is supposed to be a self help book. He needs the help because he's still living the dream and is miserable, petty, a bully, and a poor winner.
-
Haha. I had no idea it was a "Self-Help" book. How's that working out Paul? You seem together and of sound mind. I should run out and buy that book and apply it to myself.
Look, Gene and Paul can scream all they want, but the reality is that KISS was HUGE in the 70's. Yeah, KISS was still popular when Ace and Peter left, but they were nowhere what they were a decade before. And guess what Paul, KISS was HUGE in the late 90's. I wonder why. Oh yeah, it was because Ace and Peter came back for the Reunion Tour, the Psycho Circus Tour and the Farewell Tour.
Hmmm....I wonder what became of KISS after they left again? Oh yeah, they hired a former replacement drummer and a Starbucks Intern. No wonder KISS hasn't been the same again. Oh, wait. There was one last time that KISS was the talk of the town. That's right....the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. I wonder why that is. Oh riiiiiiiiiiiiiight, Ace and Peter were on stage, marking the first time the original 4 were on stage together.
You know what Rich. I'm of sound mind. I know what the f*ck I am talking about. I'm good. I don't need Paul's book. I got this.
Paul and Gene need to look within and find happiness. They clearly or not and they can talk a good game till the end of time. It's draining on a person's soul to carry around that kind of animosity for so long. The fact that they have chosen to continue to go down this road at their age is just sad. How much time do they have on this planet? And they want to keep doing this? Ugh.

Paul Stanley sings "Everytime I Look At You" & talks REVENGE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWv1x4JC5HI
With everyone in lock-down, I think this is going to become a regular thing with Paul. Not gonna post yesterday's Acoustic of LOVE GUN because the video itself was poorly mic'd. The audio was tailored for his Guitar which means that he himself wasn't mic'd in the way he needed to be. So, if you want to hear him talking, you have to crank up the volume. Big mistake.....as soon as he starts playing guitar, it SHREDDS your ear drums. EAR R*PE! So, this video is the way it should have been done. Great rendition of the song. Love it.

sounds great I think...these videos have been fun!
I hope he keeps doing them!

Paul Stanley checks in from home

We need more of these videos during lockdown. I think it's great to just see Paul playing classic KISS riffs. It's kind of odd that it's taken this long (save for the Ernie Ball video awhile back) to get him and a guitar and just playing. Think about it, for 45 years we have "seen" him playing....but you really haven't because of the pyro, make-up and showmanship. But here, we get to zero in on just him playing.
