Ever since seeing Starship Troopers in the theater, I have been wracking my brain to expalin why I dig this movie, one that I should not like at all. It's a hokey, B-Movie with solid Special FX with cliche characters. wooden action and a lot of bad dialogue. And yet, I can't ever turn it off if I channel surf and stumble across this. How best to describe this movie? I always go with it's Beverly Hills, 90210 meets Aliens. Every single cadet is a model of perfection with perfect hair and perfect skin. For a Sci-Fi War film, it's too clean and pristine for my taste. It will never be confused with dark and gritty. One of the things I remember most about seeing this way back when it came out was how gratuitous the violence was. I'm taking about some serious death scenes that would have made the MPAA stand up and take notice. Now? I don't even bat an eye at it. Jaded perhaps? Probably. But back then it was a big deal.

Anyway, I decided to watch this...again, because I was going through my Roku and searching on Crackle.com and saw they had Starship Troopers 2, which I've never seen before. I've heard it's bad, but who cares. It's free. (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/HTL_biggrin.gif)

Starship Troopers is definitely a Rent.

If that's not enough to get you to rent this, then I leave you with this....

You're some sort of big, fat, smart-bug, aren't you?

Yea, it's got that special B-movie spot in my heart. I think it is all what you say, over the top sets, special effects with ridiculous dialogue that just make movie watching fun. You have to be in the right mood, but damn when it's on, it's on.

Check out Planet Terror. Same kind of fun.

Phuck that sh*t!! I just watched the first 15 minutes of Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation. This is HORRIBLE!!! I can't believe I just wasted 15 minutes of my life that I can never get back. I've seen better actors on street corners by pan handlers claiming to be down and out. I give the 15 minutes I did watch...

Not only have I seen Planet Terror, I have it on DVD. But it's been awhile since I've fired it up in the DVD player.

Oh, then you'll love 3. From what I remember, I remember nothing. I don't think it was good in a bad way.

Well, with Casper Van Dien returning in Starship Troopers 3: Marauder, it's got to be a step up from the last one. I may just check it out regardless, knowing full well that it won't come close to the first one.

From what I remember he was the only connection. It was obvious money was not spent elsewhere like CGI or story.

I completely forgot, until now. If you like Starship Troopers, you may like the tongue in cheek Eight Legged Freaks.
