Ace Frehley's book is a throughly enjoyable read from start to finish. The beginning of the book which is devoted to his upbringing might seem boring to most, but for me it was a trip to hear about what he did as a kid with regards to his association with the Duckies, the gang that first saved his ass and then get's it into trouble.

But like all KISS fans, myself included, we are anxiously waiting for when he gets around to the formation of the 'Hottest Band In The World'. One of my favorite stories that he imparts on in the book was when he went to his favorite Record Store when KISS' first album was released and is flipping through the vinyl rack looking for and finding it, flipping it over and inspecting every inch and gawking at it for the longest time and then giggling at the site of holding it in his hand. Without thinking, he just goes up to the counter and buys it...his own record.

The reason why I like this story a lot is that Ace's way of describing this moment is basically describing what each and every kid felt like when buying their first KISS album. It's so universally relatable that I just couldn't keep from having a sh*t-eating grin on my face. THAT'S how it felt for me and it's awesome to see that even he was able to have that epiphany, that moment of being a KISS fan even if he was in the band itself.

I know my ABC of the band's history. This is why I'm reading his book. It's these kind of stories that take the excellent read to another level and makes it worth reading for me. With a band like KISS, there are a lot or rumors and myth-making that goes into KISSTORY and any KISS fan worth its weight in gold will know a majority of these. So, it's really cool to get first hand accounts from someone other than Gene or Paul. In No Regrets, Ace does a fanstasitc job of deconstructing a lot of those myths with facts and stories that just make them even cooler in most cases.

I think the sole reason for Ace writing this book was in fact to get back at Gene and Paul (mostly Gene) for all the character assassination stories directed at him and tell his side of the story. Ace has every right to fire back and bring Gene to his knees. But here's where it gets interesting, even though he has Gene in his crosshairs, he never really goes for the throat to destroy the man. Sure, Ace get's in a few jabs here and there, but you can tell that he is holding back, not wanting to stoop to Gene's level of mud slinging.

Like I said, this book is a fun read and will keep any fan of 'Rock N Roll Memoirs' entertained. But it does lose some steam toward the end of the book. It's still good enough for me to recommend this one as a Buy, one I can see myself reading again in the future.

While I know very little beyond their musical output, this biography too sounds interesting.

I think it's a great book for those not too familiar with all the sh*t that's gone down over the years regarding the members of the band. All that's left is to get a book from Paul and Peter now. I think if and when that happens, Paul's will probably be the most politically correct, one that won't ruffle feathers and Peter's would probably be the most debauched tell-all.

Then you would do well to read The Dirt (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/books/the-dirt-confessions-of-the-world's-most-notorious-rock-band-motley-crue/). It doesn't get any more debauched than this one.

That was a pretty good interview. I just wish it was a lot longer.

That's what she said. (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/rimshot.gif)

good stuff.

it's too bad both parts of the interview were essentially the same....but it's always great to hear Ace has been clean and sober now for 5 years./

who knows...if Gene and Ace are talking....there could be some upcoming rocking.

I seriously doubt Peter would be involved...but they might dump Tommy for Ace/

Gene Simmons + Paul Stanley + Peter Criss + Ace Frehley = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Buh bye Eric and Tommy. (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/wavegoodbye.gif)

there's is no way Peter will ever be back/

it's a 3 fold scenario.

age, health, and attitude.

the first 2 cancel out the third....he couldn't do a tour I don't think.....although with that said...none of them are getting any younger...if they did maybe 2 or 3 shows a week.....and shorter tours it might work.

BUT.

Touring doesn't work that way.  It costs waaaaaaaaaay too much to have a crew of 100 sitting around on off days with NO money coming in.

so that won't happen.

I think the most realistic would be Ace coming back....and I mean who knows....they might like Tommy and not want Ace back in that way.

BUT with that said...Ace back makes a tour that much more interesting to the fans and that equals MONEY/

What you say makes a lot of sense. But you're leaving out a 4th option that holds water: Las Vegas. It's quite possible that when age really starts to factor into slowing down, and world wide travel is no longer an option, heading to Sin City is where the band will eventually wind up. I know Gene and Paul will never truly retire and they don't want to end KISS. So, if KISS decides to slow it down and still have a way to financially keep the show going, Vegas would be the logical way to do it and still have the original 4 participate. They will get to put on the same types of show and have tons of new visitors everyday.

The first time I really began to think about KISS and Las Vegas was during the Reunion Tour and it's a legit scenario that is sure to play out as such.

Yea, well, one of my idols already did it. No, not Stewart. But Elton John did phenomenal business.

Kiss have been trend setters. They just might be huge and bring in whole new clientele which Vegas has never seen. Blue hairs in their walkers grinding to Doctor Love.

You know it's gonna happen one day.

That's just so wrong in every way imaginable and an image I will try to purge from my brain the rest of the day. (http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Smilies/0%20All%20Smilies/fallingbricks.gif)
