Title: KISS View-Master 3D

KISS View-Master 3D

Hehehehehehe. So, today I was cleaning out more boxes, looking for stuff that I could potentially sell on eBay and I ran into THIS. I thought this was long gone. The set comes with 3 Reels with 7 pictures per reel. Now all I need is to find my View-Master so I can check it out. And no...I don't think I will be selling this anytime soon. Just stoked to find this, which was the LAST thing on my mind.

wow that's super cool.

good thing is...I bet an old view master would be a LOT easier and cheaper to find than this...so either way you are ahead I'd think.

this has got to be pretty damn rare...now how collectible or desirable it is...who knows...but I'd keep it if I were you anyway.

what's funny is I don't even remember view masters in the 80's....last I remember them was in about 1977....I had some disney ones.....

great score!

they sell well from about $55-$125....so that's really cool Chip.

you are like the Charlie Sheen of garages!

Well, I checked earlier in the day and one of the peeps selling on eBay had it priced at $400 bucks I think. But that was with a View-Master as well. Not sure why that would make it more expensive because I also checked to see how much a new one would cost if I can't find mine and the  price was $6. But yeah, the KISS View-Master is definitely a 'Winning' find for me. I'm definitely gonna hold onto this for awhile.

you know looking at that thing more closely....one time and I don't remember where...I actually did see that thing.  I forgot it was a "3D" view master...but some kid back in the day had it and I remember looking at it....it was cool...but my tastes were changing at the time...and I didn't care about KISS the way I did a few years earlier.

weird I'd remember that but I remember seeing it, thinking it was cool, but I didn't care that much anymore.

now...well that's a whole different story...I don't have the nostalgia for that exact toy or piece of KISStory....but it's still really damn cool....

hope you can find the view master...I am sure you will if you still have the discs.

damn man...you must have a ton of ****.

I've told you this several times.

don't focus on what people "try" to sell stuff for...it almost means nothing.

look at completed auctions...and next how many bids they have.

with the view master they go for around $100-125.

without...around 50-60.

still very solid for a toy like that.

Well, I had a ton of View-Masters, ranging from Disney as you mentioned, KISS, and a host of others. But I'm pretty sure I got rid of most of them. That's why I thought this was long gone as well. But it being KISS, in hindsight, it made sense that I would put this one off to the side to keep. I just didn't know where it went after that. Now, I'm talking about like 25 years ago was the last time I saw this, if not longer.

there's this new trip on e bay I find very annoying too...which is this "Canadian" pressings of things.

they will always say "this version is more rare"

it's like...really do I care the thing was made in Canada?

I mean seriously...I find that very funny because it's like saying the Italian version is more rare, or the Mexican version is more rare.

it's Canada...what is the relevance to any sort of KISS memorabilia.....and why would I pay more for a Canadian version.

I get there's less...but it's because of a very specific reason that really has no relevance to collecting.

that's called a bluff and someone bought.

period.

well I think it's awesome you found it...so I am super happy for you.

I really hope you find the view master.

now will that work in a normal view master?

I can keep my eyes peeled at the swap meet...or does it have to be a "3D view master" ?

I don't know the difference/

Yeah, I wouldn't get hooked on something like that for anything, especially a KISS item.

I dunno. I figured it's the same reels and that they are all compatible with each other. I may go down to CVS tomorrow and see if they have any on the shelf and compare reels and whatnot.

I will keep my eyes peeled as well...if I can find one cheap I'll grab it for you...my gift....I might try and hit the swap meet next weekend....there's usually a few people selling old toys...I'll see if I can spot a view master.

I know you have been scoring a lot of Vinyls there lately. I can only imagine what it's gonna be like to find KISS toys and all that.

getting records is one thing at the swap meet (and usually they are beat)....collectibles like toys and that stuff....people know too well know.

everyone goes online and checks **** out.

it's like getting third pick through stuff....all the good dealers know what has potential....I've never seen any Kiss toys....I did see a few totally trashed and mildew stinky magazines that were all cut up....which I passed on....was like 1988 mags too not 70's stuff....guitar player and stuff...they reeked and had water damage.

Star Wars stuff you can find but they are generally toy dealers....so it's pretty legit and the bargains aren't what they once were.

I think storage wars is our best bet.

that an estate sales in about 20 years when all the KISS fans start dropping dead of old age

;)

hahahahaha

So then I should be expecting you outside my door in about 50 years. Have at it!

I've only bought 4 records there.

was 2 Black Sabbath records and Alive, then I got Love Gun a few months earlier.

the guy I got Love Gun from actually is more like a used record store there...his stuff is very neat and not cheap (all he sells is Vinyl).

the other guy was asking 8-15 a piece...I just showed him the scratches on the records...and then took the risk of buying them....after he lowered the prices because I was like...'dude they may not play"

I got lucky and they didn't affect the actual play back.

he didn't see me check out the book in Alive....like I said, I saw how nice it was...and figured there's no way someone would keep the book that neat and have the records totally **** up.

luckily I was right/.

hahahaha

I am seriously thinking about once this whole "storage wars" thing blows over...in a year or two...getting into that a little bit.

I'd dump a majority of the stuff and really only look for old comics....maybe stereo stuff.

would be a LOT of work though.....but one good score could make it epic.

hahaha

that's your treasure.

I am looking for Silver Age Marvel comics.

:)

part to sell, but honestly the old stuff is just do damn cool to see.

I love the old comic covers....it's too bad the newer stuff never seems to have the same magic.

I guess 40 years from now it might...although I am not sure...if you compare the two....it seems like a lot of the comics from the last 20 years haven't stuck and made an impact that will matter much down the road....none of the stories seem iconic enough, or important enough.

who knows...I guess time will tell more.

I would keep all my new books in a LOT better shape and in bags and boards...just to make sure though

:)

The older covers will always trump the newer ones. I think for me, the whole embossed, stamped, million variant covers during the Image days, kinda ruined it for me. At first, it was cool when it was "exclusive". But then when they started doing it for EVERY comic book on the stand and on titles that sucked and had no readership was the tipping point for me.

Always go with the Golden and Silver Age Comics for sure.

even beyond all the gimmicks...the drawings themselves aren't as iconic.

something to be said for simple and straight forward...even though with that said...the old covers were still very dynamic poses and cool angles.

they just didn't add a million lines and super processed color over everything.

I sometimes wonder if someone could do a new version of the old work.....if that would actually appeal to people.

sort of like if a band came out and did led zeppelin for the 2012 crowd......is there an audience.

so tough to say...it might feel too retro....even if the structure and stylings were contemporary....so I don't mean do Jack Kirby 2012....or John Romita Sr. part 2....but a very boiled down comic style that was based more on poses and composition than detail.  I guess Bruce Timm and Shane Glines do that to some degree.

I guess John Romita Jr..also..sort of captures that...although to me his work is similar to Jason Pearson of a Cully Hamner.

I was cleaning more stuff out of the garage the other day and finally found my View-Master Camera. Yay! I just haven't had time to bust out the KISS reels and look at them though. That's my next order of business..........

oh yeah.  I just remember as a kid being blown away by that scene...I'd never seen anything like it, and those viewmaster slides made it look SO 3D to my kid brain.

I really feel like this is the beginning of round 2 (round 3 maybe if you count our kid days ) of my collecting days.  I am going to gut my collection I have now....keep the best stuff I really love, sell the rest....and invest in a bunch of new fun stuff to see 20 years down the road.

sounds fun right?
