Title: Wish List
Post by: Chiprocks1 on March 10, 2012, 03:00:25 pm
Post or keep track of anything in particular you are looking forward to buying for yourself or someone else. This is a countdown thread. The more money you get, the closer you are to reaching your dream item. I'm keeping this in Hardware since most of the items will be electronic in nature. But feel free to post anything you want.

I see I am a "full member" now..

that's what she said

;)

ok...so the guitar I've really been wanting for a while is the Gibson Black Beauty....I have NO idea what this guitar runs...my guess is between 5 and 7 K.  I don't even have close to enough money for it....but it's one of the guitars I'd love to own someday....my guess is I'd probably get another Les Paul Custom first....just because I'd love to treat myself to a new guitar some time this year if possible....so realistically....a 1-3 K guitar will be way more obtainable.

(the sticker around the pick up switch is just to show the 6 options...it's not on the actual guitar itself. ...as well as the other sticker near the pick guard)

here's a nice shot of the Bigsby tremelo....if you are going to have a whammy bar...at least have one that is from the right era on your guitar!

and finally...good enough for Paul McCartney and Jimmy Page (also a Black Beauty player) good enough for this kid...and hey Les Paul made it...so you know it must be good!

Hey, I wanna be there when you pull the trigger on that Black Beauty. I wanna see you faint like a little girl.

that's a lot of guitar for one man.

unfortunately it came out a few years back...and I am sure is sold out and would cost an arm and a leg....we'll see though....I'll keep my eyes peeled and hopefully the crappy economy will somehow work in my favor.

for a split second I thought Chip posted that kit.,...I was thinking "wow I never knew he was into that stuff"

how much is that first set Mac?

kind of like with the guitar....those premiums ones are so damn pricey....it's goes from 1-3 K....to like 5K and up.

that's a lot of "scratch"

:)

How many of those pinball machines were made?
any idea....and how much do they cost now?

my guess is 4K?

Title: Re: Wish List
Post by: Chiprocks1 on March 11, 2012, 12:46:33 pm
Not sure how many. I think it was mentioned in KISS: Behind The Mask and they said something like 2000. Not sure if it was the book or online or even if that number is legit. But I would have thought it would be a higher number to meet the demand of all the arcades around the US and the world for that matter.

The lowest price I've seen it go for was around 5K.

5K isn't horrible...I mean its a KISS pinball machine for craps sakes!!

Eventually when we get the basement turned into a media room (which happens after Storm visits doggie heaven), I need to find some good speakers. My Bose 301's from 25 years ago just ain't gonna cut it. The room we are looking at is about 12 X 20. Small, so ran across this review about the Orbs. My wife is all contemporary and if they sound good, these could be the answer.

are you working on saving up?

I know Chip has a fund for a few things...I've got one going (now for the new guitar)  plus some other small amount of cash towards a TV I want to get for my office.

well I hope you get it!

Yea, I've got two funds. But trying to maintain has it's obstacles. The wife loves to spend. After this upcoming vacation. Putting the brakes on spending and getting the savings back in line.

I know the feeling....the TV was a hold over from Christmas...I was given money and told SPEND this on yourself.

a lot of times my little birthday and Christmas cash...goes into stuff like groceries and basically no sort of gift.

I promised I'd buy myself something...and a flat screen tv would really help the space issues in my home studio.

was checking out Les Paul's last night on the Gibson site.....was fun and depressing at the same time

Aw man, that looks  f u c k i n g  cool!! It reminds me of those Stereo Speakers that would pulsate to the music you were playing, which I wouldn't mind picking up a new set for the year 2012. Not even sure what they were called back then. Bascially take the dance floor from Saturday Night Fever and add it to the front of the Speakers. Anyway, good job Mac.

OK, maybe you guys can help me out here. Actually a few years ago when Ultimate Electronics existed, they had this displayed out front. The wireless patio speaker. It immediately caught my attention. It sounded good.
So now I’m at a place to want to get it. We sit outside a lot and would love to have something more than a tinny small radio.

I see there are really two competing brands out there…
The Rocketfish Wireless ($189) (http://www.rocketfishproducts.com/products/home-theater/RF-RBWS02.html)

Product Features
•   RocketfishTM 2.4GHz, 22-watt wireless speaker with up to 164' wireless range
•   Wireless sender/receiver
•   Auxiliary audio input and output on sender/receiver
•   Weather-resistant speaker design
•   4 Ohms woofer impedance, 8 ohms tweeter impedance
Technical Details
•   Brand Name: Rocketfish
•   Model: RF-RBWS02

Cables To Go Audio Unlimited ($113) (http://www.amazon.com/Cables-To-Go-Transmitter-SPK-24GX/dp/B003U6Y354/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1333484842&sr=1-9)

•   2.4 GHz Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum FHSS digital transmission
•   32-Channel scan-tuning between transmitter and receiver
•   Audio output power up to 20 Watts RMS per channel
•   SRS WOW provides deep, rich bass and creates a 3D surround effect to provide a superior audio experience
•   Weather-resistant speaker and remote control
•   Compact weather-resistant speaker is powered by 2.4GHz technology, which guarantees a strong, clear signal up to 150FT away
•   Package Includes: 1 RF Transmitter, 1 RF Speaker, 1 Remote Control, 1 AC Adapter for Transmitter, 1 AC Adapter for Speaker, 1 RCA to RCA Cable, 1 3.5mm to 6.3mm (1/4"") adapter plug and User Manual
•   The system transmitter supports all types audio inputs including RCA inputs for home theater receivers, MP3 players, computers, iPods, iPhones, and iPads.
Technical Details
•   Brand Name: Cables To Go
•   Model: SPK-24GX
•   Color Name: Black
•   Speaker Type: Wireless
•   Height: 13.97 inches
•   Width: 14.96 inches
•   Weight: 9.07 pounds
•   Warranty: 1 Year

I’ve read many reviews on both of them and they seem to be comparable in many ways. I think a con for the Cables to Go is the power switch. And a plus for Rocketfish, someone at least said, the sound and bass were good for the size it is. A con seems to be Rocketfish is almost twice as expensive and can only be found at Best Buy.

Any thoughts on these two or others you may know?

Personally I don't know anything about those two specific brands. Boyinblack may have a better idea of where to go as far as something for outdoor use. He's on vacation and won't be back till the end of the week, but I will shoot him a note as a reminder to chime in.

So I got this baby and it is exactly what I thought. It is kind of hypnotizing. And it looks way better in darker rooms. Duh.

I didn’t tell my wife. I let her discover it on her own. She ‘really’ liked it. She likes shiny things. Until I told her how much it costs. She could not justify getting one for herself in her office.

But I planted the seed. I’m slowly figuring that out.

Another seed I planted is my wife doesn’t like wood. She’s a contemporary interior designer and wood is not only foreign but kind of frowned on. She asked me to get rid of everything I had made of wood, which was just about everything. I still maintain the benefits of wood, so we have back and forth on some items. For instance our new bed has now some wood. Granted it’s painted black and pretty much defeats the point, but it is a seed.

The other seed I planted is an Adirondack chair. These are the classic and iconic chairs you see on porches and lawns. They are deceivingly comfortable. I’ve mentioned them several times I would like a few on our deck or patio. Since she saw they are made of wood and about as un-contemporary as you can get, she never bought into it.

Until she sat in a nice one on our vacation. The seed was planted.

Now she is considering them, especially since she saw they can be painted in any color, particularly in bright colors.

It just takes some time I guess on some things.

So to catch you up... the beginning of the summer after much research and testing things out, I decided on Brookstone's Outdoor wireless Speaker (http://www.brookstone.com/indoor-outdoor-wireless-speakers?bkiid=featured_product_zone|hmpg|main|speakers|497362p)

It works perfectly. When we started the landscaping, I put it way in the corner of the yard and we heard music perfectly through the day listening to Pandora. If one minus, while listening to music, the iPad's time is being used. I guess I could find another source... but for now it's not a big deal. The bass boost is fine. And the loudness is more than enough. It's not a rock concert. It's music for the background.

We used it the other night on one of first beautiful evenings. Flawless and the blue glow was rather icing on the cake.

This kids demo really helped me focus on checking out Brookstones product. I did not know they've been doing this speaker for years.

Also suddenly last week we needed a camera for an event, I discovered my camera crapped out. It would take pictures, but the view screen didn't work, so it was like cross your fingers and hope you have it in view. That's just dumb.

So Best Buy had and ad for a Canon similar to what I had for $149. I went to Wal-mart first to see if they had something competitive. I ran across a slightly more expensive Olympus. I liked what I saw.

So I went next door to Best Buy, saw a comparable Olympus (VR-350) the same price as the bulky Canon. Tested it out,  read reviews and I was hooked. Picked that puppy up and am more than happy with my amateur needs for taking photogs.

I just found out it can take 3D and a variety of other cool little bells and whistles. For $149, I'm happy.

The 3D was a kick in the head. It's easy to shoot and simply the Red/Blue glasses. On the little screen it's cool. Wonder what it looks like on the big screen... or if I can share it here?

Hmmmmmm
