Tower Heist is a watered down version of the Ocean's Eleven template. Instead of George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck, we get Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy and Casey Affleck. On paper, the cast for this one had a lot of promise and potential to be something good, if not great. Unfortunately, somebody forgot to actually read the script. The opening to the movie actually sets up a pretty good premise laying the groundwork for all the players that would come together in the end. But the problem soon manifest itself when the gang starts "prepping" for their heist. Where Ocean's Eleven nails it in the journey toward their payday, Tower Heist basically bypasses it all and speeds through any of the planning necessary in something of this magnitude.

Without spoiling it, the ending of where the loot was stashed was predictable. I knew from the opening shot that the entire thing would be centered around this 'place' that shall remain nameless. The movie isn't all bad. I'm more disappointed in what could have been than what we actually get.

Rent if you're bored.

I remember just rolling my eyes with the trailer. Good Gawd, another Murphy lame @ss flick.

If I happen to see it on the shelf I may pick it up.

It's not as bad as a lot of people and even the trailer make it out to be. It's just that the movie had a lot of potential and it never quite gets there.

I’ll admit, I brought home Tower Heist only in the event we had nothing else and/or my wife wanted to watch it. I already have bias against Eddie Murphy and the consistently bad crap he puts out and Ben Stiller who pretty much does the same character in every movie. So looking forward to this movie was not even a thought.
I thought Tower Heist was supposed to be a comedy. At least that’s what the trailer indicated. And slapstick comedy at that. I thought Tower Heist was having a very difficult time deciding what it wanted to be… drama or comedy. It does have comedy, but it one of the more understated comedy movies I’ve ever seen. Until the 3rd act where it does get a little slapstick. I don’t think people laughed at this movie, but they may have grinned mostly.
This has one of the more odd collection of castings I could think of. It kind of worked, but many times I’m thinking WTF. Gaboure Sidibe using a Jamaican accent was just silly. Eddie Murphy’s character is the same… again, as is Stiller’s as I mentioned before. Matthew Broderick was soooo odd. Alan Alda pulled off a deceiving bad guy and Casey Affleck was the most interesting straight man to watch here.

Tower Heist is not horrible. It’s watchable. My wife enjoyed it… surprisingly. I got bored by the 3rd act and started to read. I know I’ll never watch that again.
