Title: Junior Seau (January 19, 1969 – May 2, 2012)

Junior Seau Dead in Apparent Suicide (http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/junior-seau-dead-suicide-nfl-linebacker/story?id=16263047)

I'm stunned and at a loss for words. I just don't understand why someone that has everything, especially a family would go down the road of suicide. What a waste.

The topic of football related concussion has been the hot button topic of the day as people speculate that it's what drove Seau to commit suicide.

People are already starting to speculate what really happened. The theory is that his Girlfriend shot him and then "discovered" the body. Why this new angle? The fact that she was shot in the chest. When I first heard about Junior's passing and that it suffered a gunshot to the chest, I thought that to be the oddest place to shoot oneself if their are intent to kill themselves. Also, the other thing I thought was kind of strange is that if Seau was going to say his goodbyes by texting his Ex Wife and 3 kids, wouldn't he have done so just before doing the deed instead of a week earlier?

So, it's not entirely out of the realm that this is a homicide.

not saying your theory is wrong...but there was that other player who killed himself by shooting himself in the chest also.

artie lange tried to kill him self by cutting himself all over his body....a lot of people pick some strange ways to try and off themselves.

but with that said...my e mail basically says how Junior picked some crazy girls...and would drive them even more crazy with his behavior...so he might have pushed this one over the edge.

will be very easy to bust her if she did it.

trust me, no chick in the heat of the moment is going to be able to pull off a murder like that.

they'll nail her ass if your theory is right.

trajectory from a self inflicted would, finger prints, powder residue on juniors hands (or a lack of)...it's  a no brainer to figure out who did it.

she'll get popped if that's the case.

If Seau was having problems with the new girlfriend to the point of wanting to end things, I would expect him to become agressive against her or something, given his past indiscretions.  I just figured that Seau got caught cheating on her, which made her snap and in a fit of rage decided to take things into her own hands.

Who knows how this plays out. There are so many things about this that have yet to be leaked to the public. I know it has to run its course before they disclose information regarding the case. In the mean time you will hear all sorts of theories.........

This was both great and said. Great in that we get to see Seau at his best. Sad is that this is hard to see a man that had a great attitude about life and the game itself come to a tragic end. It was eery to see the final quote in the episode "If you want a happy ending....". Sadly, there would be no happy ending for him and now his family and friends. Not going to dwell on the bad as I prefer to think of the good things in the this episode like the scenes where he is talking to the kids and making them life long fans simply by shaking their hands. I know how those kids feel because I had the same experience when meeting and talking to Dan Fouts, Kellen Winslow, Charlie Joiner and Gary "Big Hands" Johnson just to name a few.

nah just a flowery wreath with a pic of him...I guess the owners sort of knew him....it was nice though...so many bottles of wine in there with drawings of Chargers related symbols on them....pretty much anything with such a long standing connection to San Diego is connected with the Chargers...and of course Junior Seau

still can't believe he killed himself...such a shame.

Yeah, it sucks. I'm still trying to shake it. Seems surreal....unreal. I met Junior at my old job once and we were just having a casual conversation about random stuff as I was loading stuff into his car. It was about 12 years ago. He was super cool.

Yesterday you said to give you something to watch right? Well, I say you should watch In Their Own Words: Junior Seau. It's awesome and a lot of it is shot down at the Belmont Roller Coaster. See if you can find me in the background.

I don't know if I can bring myself to watch it....I hate the idea of suicide....as a pretty big Kurt Cobain fan...I've never been able to go back and enjoy Nirvana after he killed himself.

it's a shame because I really did like the band....but in 20 some odd years...I've never been able to go back to it with any sort of joy.

It's not somber. There is a clip of LT speaking directly to Seau's parents and it's very touching with the crowd cheering them on. The clip can be found here. NFL Films: Junior Seau Memorial (http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-total-access/09000d5d8290d27f/Junior-Seau-memorial)

I can't look at the guy without thinking "quitter"

and I hate quitters...that's not what life is about.  It's about staying in the game...neither guy was sick with a death sentence disease/  Both also had unlimited resources to get help

I don't really know how to explain my feelings on it....they wasted a gift and basically ****ed over their families and friends leaving everyone else with a big middle finger sticking in their faces.

How do you think Seau's mom feels?  What about his kids..
will she ever understand why her son killed himself.

or Kurt Cobain's daughter...she's 17 and has never known her dad.

as a person of some value in life...and we all have value.....you can't pull the rip cord because you just want out....and leave that on everyone else's shoulder.

one guy could play football well, the other could play guitar and sing...both were ultimately selfish and didn't give a **** about the people around them./

like I said...a lot of mixed feelings for me when people kill themselves..

Everything you said is how I feel about suicide. It's selfish. But what I was hoping you see in the clip is LT trying to heal some of those wounds that the Seau's are having to deal with right now. I don't condone those that go down the road of suicide. No family or friends should have to be made to suffer after the fact.

In one of the clips posted above, they talk with the kids after the memorial and simperingly they are doing okay. They looked to be a good spirits and that is a positive.

Post by: boyinblack80 on May 12, 2012, 09:14:58 pm
yeah not trying to get preachy or anything...and I get the tribute because my opinion on someone doing that and how other people might react and then need to heal are totally different.

it's important to try and help those people deal with the loss...to come together...so it's a great thing.

it took me YEARS to even listen to Nirvana...and trust me I am not comparing the two guys as people....but I mean it went from a band a I really liked....to something that was just completely ruined for me...it's impossible for me to really listen to it...and not think it's all been totally tainted by the "end" of the story.

sucks man...Seau should have been helped...I don't understand why his friends didn't do a serious intervention for the guy.

I had a friend a few years back...and he and his wife split up...I mean we all went into IMMEDIATE action because we all knew he wasn't the most stable guy....and the reality was, we needed to find him immediately....and make sure someone was with him....no one I knew had the resources to go as far as Seau's crowd could ever go....so it bothers me that he didn't help himself...and then where were all the people he'd known the last 20 years....No one was concerned...no one thought the guy needed help.

I just find that very hard to believe/

but people slip through the cracks....he might have been one of those people....just happened he was a multi millionaire with a lot of rich friends.

all the resources....no communication.

I wouldn't hoid it against his friends for not helping him. I've watched a lot of interviews over the past week and the common thing that came up is that they just didn't know he needed help because 'Seau was Seau' in always being that "happy go lucky" guy with the mile wide smile. Junior wasn't one to reach out and ask for help. And some of the friends that have been interviewed about him did in fact ask him straight to his face if he was doing alright or needed any kind of help and the answer was always "I'm good. Really good".

Can't really pursue it further than that if that's the answer you're always going to get.

Sucks about you not being able to listen to Nirvana anymore. I know how much they meant to you.

Soundgarden was by far my favorite...but I liked Nirvana a lot.

Danna bought me the Nirvana box set a year back, that's like 4 CD's worth of unreleased material, a few dvd concerts,  and book.....I have never even looked at it.

just don't care....Cobain ruined it for me...I thought I wanted it, but got it...and just couldn't bring myself to even look through it....I don't even know where I put it

yeah major goosebumps...I read this today earlier.

I am not really sure what they can do...they try and protect the head as much as possible...but it's essentially like trying to stop people from boxing or MMA.  It's not going to happen to most players....so I think it's a risk...but the reward is also there for those who play.

any physical sport like that is going to run the human body through the ringer...but the bottom line is it's very sad...but he did have some amazing amazing triumphs in his life.

lets never forget that.

Well, there has been talk (among fans) that one possible solution would be to have Football players follow in the footsteps of Rugby because it would cut down drastically the number of players tackling with their 'heads'. Sure, they would have to alter a great deal of rules to fit within this new shift. But rules are nothing when a player will be better protected in the long run. Will this ever happen? Not a snowballs chance in hell. There is "glamour" that comes with Football and part of that does have to do with the players and their "battle amour" if you will. The NFL would lose so much money from merch sales alone. It would actually cripple the league.

yeah I agree.

I seriously don't think it will change....there's just not enough of these guys going nuts and killing themselves.

but I know tons have lifelong physical injuries...but it's the risk reward and as you said...a TON of money driving this ****.

nothing will change other than maybe the design of the helmets or padding around the neck area.

Sydney Seau Inducts Junior Seau into Football Hall of Fame

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXplhmvKQTA

A lot of drama leading up to and surrounding Seau's induction. In the end, the NFL did the right thing in letting Sydney Seau honor her late father and it was amazing, Very touching and a great tribute to one of the greatest players ever. It was hard to see Junior's mother so emotional through it all. It seems like I have yet to see her not crying. I feel bad for her. It's no secret that she was tremendously close to her son. Anyway, back on the postive side of things. The speech is one to remember for sure.
