This looks promising, but I don't think they are going to be able to push the envelope in the way that American Horror Story (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/tv/american-horror-story-(season-2)/msg4286/#msg4286) does.

I'm getting a vibe from the trailer. And its not all that great. It just seems so meh.
Probably try to check it out and see what it can deliver.

Meh.... did very little in doing anything. Yea, a creepy woman in the shadows. Been there done that.
The opening was cool... but afterwards, it was just OK.

This just might turn into a soap. Maybe they are counting on each room and family having a story?

Dunno.

I'm thinking the Networks keep their hands tied on anything powerful. The tread the line of keeping it safe for the basic audience. Can't get risky like AMC, FX or the others.

Give it another chance

The first thing I said to myself half way through watching the Pilot was that this will be an ongoing Soap Opera and that's not a bad thing. I actually prefer it over a 'Monster-of-the-Week' format. I liked the episode because I see a lot of potential and it looked good.....for an ABC Production. By that I mean, this is no American Horror Story, where that show nails it when it comes to setting the mood with the sets they are shooting in. My biggest fear is that even though this is suppose to be a scary show, it's going to be a watered down version of what they Studio is clearly aiming to make a grab for the AHS audience. The show can benefit from a 10pm slot and have a little more leeway with how far to push things. Also, riding the coattails of Revenge is not going to hurt its ratings either.

Gotta point out, watching Terry O'Quinn in this role is very similar to that of John Locke/Smoke Monter/Man In Black on Lost. It seems like he ask everyone these days to kill in his name.

I think the time slot is going to be part of its downfall. Talked to some folks and a late Sunday night snooze feast is not going to win those folks. They need to bring the heat.

All Pilots by nature are snooze fest. Nature of the beast and it's usually why I give a show 3-4 episodes to make some kind of mark. If after that, it's easier to pull the plug on the series.

I've seen pilots bolt out of the gate and others take their good ol time. I guess in today's world, it's definitely a different viewing experience and expectation.

Loved how LOST bolted out. FlashFoward too. I don't recall a show like The X Files.

Again, it comes down to story telling. If it's going to be the watered down version we spoke of... no thanks.

For me, Lost is the last great Pilot. But I don't view that as a typical Pilot. THAT was a 2 hour movie and was lightening in a bottle. I can't remember much of Flashfoward though because I have not seen anything of it since it's demise.

Even though I grew to love American Horror Story, I remember not caring for that show at all. It took me 2-3 episodes before it finally clicked with me and that's what I'm hoping happens here.

Yea, I'm done waisting my time. This is a late night soap opera.
Ken and Barbie (the new hotel managers) are clueless. The scare or creepiness is non-existent.

This hour show is turning into watching the clock.

I actually liked this episode, especially the nod to Alfred Hitchc*cks The Birds and I think that they will have more screen time in the future since Gavin (Terry O'Quinn) refused to have them exterminated from the Drake Building. The little girl who is the building thief is interesting. I guess she can see the future when she touches items that she "steals", which leads me to believe is isn't really a thief at all, but just wants to see what's gonna happen. The Hot Chick from the other building is definitely a bad seed looking to bust up a happy couple.

Suddenly this show has jumped up to "Must-watch-TV" for me and after this episode, I am definitely on board for the remainder of the season. This was a fantastic episode that has opened up some interesting things. First off, is Sasha Doran and the little girl in the basement one and the same? I think it is and if that's the case, then it adds a lot to what may be happening with the Building and why Gavin owns it. Although she doesn't look to be 15 though. It's one angle they can go down with. The other interesting thing was the Obit Writer who making up stuff to pad out the Obit to give the dead a more interesting life only to have what she is writing become reality. The fact that they didn't kill off the writer leads me to believe this arc is on-going. They are now upping the creep factor in the bowels of the building. I wonder if the Suitcase is representative of Pandora's Box. Better not open it............

The Smoke Monster RETURNS!!!! I don't know if having the contents of the suitcase filled with entity of the Smoke Monster was more of an inside joke or not, but the show-runner runs the risk of jumping the shark in only the 4th episode. Fans of Lost will immediately recognize the similarities between the two and it may or may not work for them. Being a fan of Lost and seeing the Smoke Monster kind of took me out of the story because my mind shifts to Lost instead of what's happening on the screen at the moment.  That's not to say the episode was bad, it was actually quite good. Only problem I had with the episode was the fact that they just kept delaying opening the suitcase and it became somewhat tiring just zeroing in on the combinations.

The Girl and the Grandmother scene was interesting. I for sure thought she was making up her Grandmother the whole time. Where the story is going, I have no idea.

Pretty good Halloween episode and I thought the 'Tippi Hedren' costume was fricken' awesome. It just would have been so much better had she kept the costume on for the entire episode, especially at the end with the 'birds' attacked the axe wielding psycho. It would have been a cool image to have both sharing the same scene together. So, we get some answers about the little Ghost Girl. The Psycho that came from the suitcase is the girls father. Also, the 'Gas Mask' Kidnapper is interesting. I wonder what exactly he stole from the safe.

The episode was just okay. Certainly not one of their better ones. For the most part is was kinda blah. It's not till the very end when it's revealed that Jane finds out that her Grandmother is Jocelyn, the same one that was murdered by the Axe wielding psycho, which would make him her Grandfather. I saw the 'head in the box' plot device coming a mile away having just watched Se7en (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/se7en-(1995)/msg13528/#msg13528) last week.

Very dull episode for the most part. Nothing really happens that was of interest until the very end when Jane unlocks the floor mural, which opens up a Spiral Staircase. Being the curious person that she is, she immediately descends into the "basement". I get that they need to move the story along. But this just doesn't make sense given that Jane for the entire hour of the show is harping how she is scared of the Drake and wants to move back to Indiana. So it makes perfect sense that she would head right into the basement without batting and eyelash.

Why do I continue to put myself through this? I'm always giving shows a chance and liking a majority of them only to have them pull the rug out from under me.

Sigh.

I think I'm gonna have to reevaluate my watching habits asap. I just don't think it's worth it anymore to give new shows any more of my time. Unless it's something I have been waiting a long time to see get made, I see no point in tuning in. I might as well just wait for the DVD releases so that I'll know by the time it's on DVD what the status of said show is.

Ya know, I think you're bringing forward a very important idea.
In a way, I've been on the cusp of that kind of TV viewing. First, do I invest my time? 2nd, how do I watch it if I do want to get vested in it.

Our viewing habits are changing. Even this old mans habits after years of viewing a certain way. The younger generation brings a whole new spin.

I'll bet a quite a bit could be written about this.

Now are the networks listening or watching?

Well, for me Hulu was a Godsend. It freed me from the hostage mentality of having to watch shows on TV at THEIR time. With Hulu, the power shifted to me. I could watch whatever show I wanted at my own pace. But soon it became a double edge sword. Freeing up a lot of time and being able to work and watch at the same time, I was now able to watch even more shows (i.e. new shows). That's where my problem comes from and where I'm at now. With all these new shows I'm watching, I've opened myself up to being disappointed by the Networks for prematurely canceling some high quality shows. This is just the latest round of shows to bite the dust. Like I said, time to change it up for me so that I don't continue going down this road.

This should have been a huge episode, but the writer chose to go down the path of obscuring as much detail as possible about Jane and the Staircase aftermath. Drugging her for an entire hour at the hospital was boring, even if she did "talk" to someone else that experienced the same thing she is going through. I did like that they showed Alexis to be the muse of Brian and that he can't write when they are apart. None of this is gonna matter now that the show has been cancelled.

I liked this episode a lot. It was different in that they had Jane "time travel" back to the day to witness the murder of the woman that basically saved Jane's grandmother's life. I thought that having Whoopi Goldberg as the one that helps Jane go back in time was a nice inside joke. For those of you that have short memories, Whoopi played a similar character in the movie Ghost. I also thought the twist at the end of the episode was great and one that I didn't see coming at all. Having Laurel turn out to be Sasha, the daughter of Gavin and Olivia, who was believed to be the victim of suicide was a nice touch.

666 Park Avenue's Return Delayed (http://www.crimsontear.com/tvseries/666parkave/news/20121228-delayed)

Really strange that ABC (which can go f*ck themselves) would pull the final 4 episodes so they can air it this summer, if we are lucky. The speculation by fans is that the network is going to try to relaunch the series from the start and hope it can catch fire and thus save the show. As much as I would like to see it play out like that, personally I think it's nothing more than a cheap way to drum up business for the eventual DVD release and use the '4 unaired episodes' in it's marketing push to sell to those that want to see how it ends as I don't see them even airing the episodes this summer at all. We shall see.......

Yup, ABC actually stuck to their word and aired the first of the last four episodes they promised viewers. But the show itself is cancelled. There is no 're-launching' the series in the hopes that it catches on. As for the episode itself.....

...it kind of took a few minutes before I could get back into it. I had to searched my brain to remember some of the smaller things that were set up earlier. After that, it was like putting on well-worn shoes and everything started to click again. As soon as Lou opened her mouth to Lex, I knew right away she was going to reveal that she had 'hit someone with her car'. What Lou doesn't know is that Lex was that 'someone' that left her crippled, which of course led her to Gavin, which of course led to her making a deal with the Devil which would allow her to walk. Nice twist.

The ending was interesting, but a bit confusing. So Jane 'free's' that girl trapped in the mirror, releasing her from the Drake once and for all and now is able to move onto the other side. But with the mirror tampered with, it releases something else.....Black Oil. And then Jane wakes up from her dream. So, she was dreaming freeing the girl....and oil, yet we cut to a shot of the black oil leading to the 117 year old man in bed, who now has rejuvenated to a Thirty-Something year old man. I really hope that ABC did a day or two of re-shoots to wrap this series up during its extended hiatus.

We've talked about the stupidity of networks on regular basis. Iím starting to see articles on the future of networks. With the change in viewing habits with streaming, online and over half of TV viewers subscribing, I would think the networks would start to get a lot smarter on their product. The Networks numbers are declining all the time with them getting a smaller and smaller slice of the pie.

Iím seeing (so you know the networks are seeing) people getting tired of reality shows, or they want to push it further to a very specific kind of reality show. Thatís why you have a million different kind storage shows, or junk shows, or relationship shows. The slices of pie get smaller and smaller.

I would think it crazy or brilliant that a network would experiment like this.

Bottom line, I would think it insane for a network not do anything. If they continue with the same old business model, they will be history. It doesnít take much to look back at companies that no longer exist because they were not reactive or proactive.

One of the biggest head scratching moments for me recently regarding Networks is CBS of all things. For the most part, they are probably my favorite Network as far as getting content to the viewers any way they can. But even they are shortsighted. They are the only one of the Big 5 Networks that will not allow Hulu to carry any of their shows which cuts off a major chunk of potential eyes that could get their products.

So why do I like CBS? Well, for starters, they air their new episodes on their site as fast as half an hour after the initial broadcast on TV. This is incredibly fast. NBC will air the following day as does ABC. FOX will not air any of their new episodes until 8 days later. Dumb. FX and AMC refuse to air anything online. Dumber.

A&E shocked me by airing the complete run on Bates Motel on their site. Still won't let Hulu host. But I will take A&E hosting if that's my only option.

But the biggest shocker for me is CBS refusing to air any episodes of Person of Interest (after Season 1). They won't even host it on their own frickin' website. In spite of this, the show is thriving and is one of the most popular series going for CBS right now. How is this possible? Because they aired all of Season 1 on their site and people found it and stuck with it. So, I think it's pretty telling that if the content is made available online, it can and will succeed, which should tell them right there that online is the new way to watch shows or at least sample shows that you wouldn't normally know about. They have the mentality that it's 1970's. What they fail to realize is that in this day and age, there are thousands of channels now and each one has 100's of shows. How can they expect anyone to know what is on...what is new and when it airs? Stuff slips into the cracks and never are given a fair chance....i.e......666 Park Ave.

Kind of a lackluster episode. It only got interesting at the very end when Lex makes a play for Henry, knowing that Lou would 'catch' them, when Gavin banishes his daughter into the pit of The Drake (Hell) and when Lou looks to 'have a drink' with Oil-Man dude, which could be her last drink given that he already has a body inside his apartment.

What's stupid or funny, your call, is that 2 of the 3 people at The Elysian Fields had their guns drawn on the unsuspecting Hitman, and STILL couldn't fire off a shot and kill the Hitman. Seriously? Fail! Even as dumb as this particular scene is, I still found the episode entertaining. Cool to see William Sadler as Jane's father.

What's the first thing that would normally go through a person's head when they wind up behind brick walls? How about "how the f*ck did that happen? I get that Lou and Brian are scared about what their fate is, but come on.....I don't buy that no one, no matter how traumatic their situation is, wouldn't ask that very same question. In spite of that little hiccup, this was a very entertaining episode with surprises. So, Gavin is Jane's real father? I did not see that coming. Not sure why the episode was labeled Part 1 as this is clearly the last episode. Also, I'm curious if the epilogue was filmed after it was cancelled or if they did it during initial principal photography. Anyway, sucks that this show couldn't be saved for a longer run.
