Television / Hells Kitchen and MasterChef
« on: August 16, 2011, 03:51:03 pm »
So, I have been watching both Hells Kitchen and MasterChef this season. MC is down to the final 4 and HK is half way through the season. As I have been doing for most of my TV viewing ways the last few years, I get my fill from Hulu. Well, this morning I waited patiently for them to put up last nights episode. Instead the posted episodes from 2 weeks ago. Investigating further, I see that both series have been locked to the general public, meaning that if I want to finish watching both shows, I have to pay for Hulu+.

That's fuuucked up! Fuuuuck you Hulu! And fuuuuck you FOX!!

I will NOT be held hostage like this and cave in by ordering something I don't want, just to finish something that was promised me for free from the start.

Piiisssed off is putting it mildly how I feel right now.

Clerks: 10th Anniversary Edition (1994 / 2004)

Trailer

I will be the first to admit that I thought Clerks was overrated when I finally got around to seeing it on VHS tape way back in the day when I finally rented a copy. I think the problem for me was that leading up to finally watching it, the hype had been building to unrelastic heights. So, obviously my expectations were never going to be met. And then I just forgot about the movie and Kevin Smith for a long time. When DVD finally came around, most of the stuff was way overpriced. So I did all my shopping at Mom and Pop shops and bought used and came across a new copy of Clerks at a drastic discount. Around this time I was buying whatever DVD's I could find and decided the price of this DVD was too good to pass up.

Watching it again that day, I suddenly "got" what everyone was talking about because my expectations for the movie were already nonexistent. I was able to enjoy the movie for what it was and since then I have watched Clerks countless times and it gets better with each viewing. What is it that I like about the movie? All of it. The characters, the dialogue, the setting, the simplicity of how it was filmed.

As for the 10th Anniversary Edition, it's packed with a lot of extra goodies that justify's double dipping again. Along with the Theatrical Cut of the film, you get Clerks: The First Cut, Trailer, Music Video, Promos and skits and the biggest selling point: Snowball: The Story Of Clerks. This is a hell of an entertaining documentary about Clerks and how Kevin Smith came to write and film his debut. This is a must-have for any Kevin Smith fan. Even if your not a fan of his, the documentary is worth the price of admission.

Definitely a Buy.

Robert Rodriguez's Machete Tacos (Comic Con)

Something new to me as I haven't seen this till now. Not part of the 10-Minute Cooking School series, but just Robert serving up the dish at Comic Con to promote his movie Machete. This is how you promote your movies the right way if you ask me.

The Drive-In Theater / Re: Charlie Chaplin - Filmography
« on: August 16, 2011, 09:51:27 am »
I honestly have not seen many Chaplin Movies, so I'm pretty biased on my choices, but I do remember Modern Times pretty clearly.

Modern Times is a fantastic movie and probably has the most iconic image associated with him outside of his cane and derby hat with the Gear wheels he gets to ride in the movie. I'm gonna bust out my DVD box set and review each movie separately as it's been awhile since the last time I watched them. Do yourself a favor Mac, if you want something along the lines of a refresher course on the man and his movies, you can't go wrong with Unknown Chaplin. I'm pretty sure you can find a copy at your local library.

I think I may just bust that out first before the set. Both are phenomenal.

Poor Ollie (Josh McGuire). Just when he thought he would become a part of the gang...BAM! Oh well. At least he lives on. With the new guy out of the way, who by the way has Teleportation powers, his heart is transplanted into Curtis' new love interest, giving her the power to now Teleport as well. Interesting turn of events. But the rest of the episode was just meh. The whole GTA-inspired nut job going around literally playing a game, all with poorly conceived CGI took me  completely out of the story.

The only saving grace for this episode was the major twist at the end involving...

Updated Review (Jan 5, 2012)

Although I'm still in agreement with the whole GTA aspect of the episode in that they could have done a different plot to get to the end for Simon's sacrifice, the episode did play a little bit better then second time around. So this episode gets a half star bump to...
