Drive Angry

I've actually been trying to get a hold of this one, but my Library branch doesn't have a copy...yet. Even with the low rating you gave it, I still want to check it out because I have heard how weird it is.

Looking at the "who's coming to town schedule", we have Santana on 9/21/11, Blink 182 with My Chemical Romance on 10/6/11 and Judas Priest on 10/19/11. I have no idea if I will see any of these shows. Leaning toward Blink 182 as I have heard great things about there tour this year.

I also saw on the same list that Motley Crue with Poison just came to town. Huh? I heard absolutely nothing about this. No TV, Radio or Flyer announcements. It's getting to be pretty lame around here. Unless you have paper in hand or remember to check periodically online, you are bound to miss dates.

I tried several times yesterday doing different things and nothing worked. Just tried it again... removed '&feature=youtu.be' and now it works. Double weird.

How did you know to remove that? I know sometimes I have to remove the word embedded when I run into problems.

Picked up my copy of Issue #1 and read it. It was an interesting read, but it's too soon to tell how it's going to be in the long run. And of course the art is what I expected from Jim Lee. Actually, I expected a lot more in the way of characters. The first issue is basically all Batman and Green Lantern. I will definitely be picking up Issue #2, hopefully in one month from now. I hope Jim can keep a consistent schedule and they release the book on time. Next issue is Batman Vs. Superman. This should be good.

Episode 2

Special Guest: Paul Stanley (KISS)

This is the acoustic episode where the 3 bands have to perform striped down and really focus on the song and in getting it right. During practice for all 3 bands, Paul Stanley really made them look absolutely bad because he brought his game and basically schooled them all.

The acoustic set as follows:

The Bad Kick performing Suffragette City and Can't Get Enough

The Ex Hang Up performing I Fought The Law and All Right Now

The Spaceball Ricochet performing Bang A Gong and Honky Tonk Woman

I gotta say that Bad Kick is one of the most uninspiring band ever. They suck. The singer is horrible with her Christina A. impersonation. Ugh.

Watching Starr rip into Jesse was awesome and well deserved. It seemed to do the trick because they (Spaceball Ricochet) went out and ad the best set of the night. They sounded great and they had a lot of energy. I think they are the band to beat here.

An Evening with Kevin Smith (2002)

Trailer

Not all filmmakers are great storytellers. Literally. There are a handful of great storytellers when the story being told is up on the silver screen. And then there are the rare few that seem to tell even better stories on a one to one basis.

Look, we all know that Quentin Tarantino writes some great stories and the final product we see up on the screen is entertaining. But take the same man behind those words and have him tell you a story personally, and you want to kill yourself. He is not engaging at all and as a listener it becomes very trying...and tiriing listening to him get to the point. On the flipside, you have Kevin Smith. The same here applies to his movies, very entertaining stories and characters. But what sets him apart from Tarantino is that Mr. Smith can tell you a story about anything, leaving you completely transfixed and in complete awe. There isn't anything that he can't talk about that won't leave you laughing and begging for more.

And that's exactly what An Evening With Kevin Smith is. The DVD follows Mr. Smith on his Q&A tour, in which he went to colleges around the US to answer questions while also regaling us with never before heard of stories (at the time). And the stories are just so damn entertaining that even someone that has never heard of Kevin Smith or any of his films would still find this enjoyable. Sure, you will get more out of it if you are in fact a fan. But however you slice it, you get your money's worth here.

All the stories are great here, but the best definitely are the ones about Dogma, Superman Lives, Tim Burton, Sex Injuries/How He Met His Wife and the best of the bunch: Prince.

How good is An Evening With Kevin Smith? It's so good that the bulk of the show is pulled from 5 different college Q&A's. There is no hiding the editing as it jumps from one school to the next. But because Kevin is so engaging, the viewer/listener doesn't care at all. It's all about the stories and they live up to the hype.

This is a Buy for me....for everyone. I've had the DVD since it first came out and I still get a kick out of watching this.

Ha. Good one.

Off topic, what's up with the video not embedding? I checked to see if they had it disabled and they don't. So, it should be embedding properly. I tried embedding random YouTube clip and it works fine. But for whatever reason, this particular clip does not. Weird.

I'm in love with Jen, but even I can admit that she is better suited for the small screen and look forward to when that day comes. Given her track record, it's coming sooner than you think.

You really know your older films.

Some of those songs are so iconic (that sound right?). I mean I can distinctly remember scenes because of the song. Arthur's Theme, On the Dark Side, Twist & Shout... great ****.

Twist and Shout for me out of that list. That scene is just so cool.

Contrary to popular opinion, I'm not just about TV.

I'm still undecided. I think I will run through the entire list and then some via YouTube before rendering a final verdict.
