Can you elaborate on some of the sketches that should have been included?  I'm quite curious.

If National Treasure is any indication, I don't want to see Indy anytime soon.

And as for revamping Thawn, there's really SO much material in the AU that you could do, but honestly, that's still a step backwards.

My thing about movies is that I feel, especially in this day and age, that they're conversations, they are reacting to the state of the world and saying something about it, then the world reacts, then the movies react.  This is why movies that were in the can for a long time tend not to work, cause it's a conversation everyone's already had (sometimes verbatim like Total Recall).  John Carter is a great example, everyone had that conversation ages ago, so what was once fresh came out being trite and derivative even though it said it first.  Adaptations can add to conversations because they're reacting to the source material, but Disney's big epics, the ones where "story doesn't matter" aren't interested in talking, and thusly I'm not interested in listening.  Why should we be?

They're more interested in Star Wars than Indy, especially since the sour taste of the last Indy is still stinging in our mouths.

Honestly, I'm not a big Star Wars fan, but honestly I would much rather they reboot the universe Star Wars-style (but without time travel) because the last forty years have made the SW universe so dense that you're going to run into a bunch of complications... besides, having NO clue what the new Star Wars could be (as opposed to easily knowing the prequel trilogy, everything was just shitty permutations of established stuff).  Besides, it's kind of a broken, bent old horse and we need to start rooting for its' colt.

Is there a reason that Devon Aoki isn't in this one?

I am curious about what they're shooting it on, the first one had a video-y look that was a little more apparent when they were against greenscreen (and the CGI was rather soft), it's been a few years, I don't know if RR rocks RED yet but I imagine between that and the more "solid" looking CGI we get these days we'll have a more realistic feeling movie (although if they actually went OUTSIDE to some kind of city to shoot a couple angles, that would be good too...)

Isn't Beckinsdale married to the director?  That makes the idea of a lame sex scene stranger.  Although it might be worse if you were on set and you heard "all right baby, just like we did at home."

I watched Beetlejuice the other day.  I never owned the movie (and I didn't grow up with it) so I've only seen it a handful of times, I'd forgotten stuff like Robert Goulet being Jeffrey Jones' boss.  And if they ever get around to making that ill-advised sequel, they need to get Will Ferrell to play Goulet in that part.  I really don't have too much of an opinion on the movie, but I will say after the Banana Boat song I had to pause and pull up the TRS episode where they recreated that scene, just made me realize how much I miss those openings.

I never knew that Sammy Davis Jr was on the shortlist for Beetlejuice, that would have been interestingly strange.

At first, I was happy just to see Tamsin Greig again (I love Black Books and the fact that her character was just as screwed up as the guys-- her descent into a cackling psycho at hen night is not to be missed), but I realized quickly how much I missed Joey... and now he can drop the f-bomb or mime dirty actions.  And they're very aware of his perception and play to and against that very well, which I like, he's not just a stuck-up dumb actor role but one who sometimes seems to be genuinely deceptive about his perception in at least one episode.

I want to see the original British version of the show with Richard Griffiths, it was a kick seeing him in the first episode (it always is, let's be fair), just to have some contrast between that show and Pucks instead of it seeming like writers whining.

Chip, could you tell about the show being shot in England on stages and LA for exteriors?

I actually liked her more this time than in Iron Man 2.  But it still feels like ScoJo (I don't want to keep looking up how to spell the name, sue me) playing a character more than the Black Widow brought to life.  And it's more striking when you have a perfect Tony Stark and a perfect Thor and perfect Cap and so on.

And I kept thinking of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen the whole time, especially given how much time they spent on the ship conducting experiments, the ship gets horribly damaged and the Hulk comes out, I kept thinking "I saw this before!"

I think the Hulk is the only character you can get away with having a different actor each time because as long as he turns into the big green guy, we're good.

I saw this in the theater with my mom and sister (any excuse for a family get-together) and they hadn't seen Thor or Captain America and I don't think they had too much of a problem with the set-up.  They did all see (and love) Iron Man so I think that helps a great deal... and it also helped set up the realism of the universe, or rather the levels of realism we're prepared to accept, so that NOW we can accept the giant flying aircraft carrier with the spandexy outfits and so on.

And is it just me or does it seem like we don't see THAT much of the interior of the carrier, I guess we do but somehow that lab... the way that shot that lab and with that window, every time the camera was in there it felt like the only room on the ship.  Just that and the big bridge and a corridor.  It really made me think of the last Star Trek movie and how there was one hallway and a shiny bridge (which you could barely see) and the transporter room and that was it, when I remember the movies before giving us hallways, engine rooms, medical rooms, they made that lovely dining room and blew the everloving crud out of it, it feels like we're getting less spaceship per movie.  With the possible exception of Lockout.

And can I say something about ScoJo?  There's something about her as Black Widow I don't like.  I think it's the hair, I think that hair is terrible on her, but to me the Black Widow was a Bond girl who decided she didn't need Bond anymore and tossed him off the side of a building, just drippingly dangerous.  I was watching The Island not too long ago and the white body suit she wears in that immediately brought to mind the current white Fantastic Four outfits and it clicked, she could be a brill Sue Storm.  Of course, I don't have an alternate in my head to cast Black Widow, and it's not like I can do anything about it, I just feel like I'm alone in this.

Oh, and the scene where they go to Germany, did it actually feel to ANYONE that they were in Germany?  Didn't to me.

AND the one thing I would have LOVED, LOVED, gone nuts for and screamed in the theater if it happened, was that in the scene where those people are holed up in the bank, one of the hostages should have been Andrew Garfield, and he slowly lifts up one of his sleeves and almost reveals his web-shooter, but is interrupted by Captain America breaking in.  Seriously, how epic would that have been?

aaaaaand she just jumped into the water in her underwear.  Another girl missing from that montage.  And pulled herself out, dripping wet, bouncy and energetic.  Terrible movie but damn I'm glad I stayed for that bit.

Seriously, this whole movie about these people's marriage problems-- just watch Kristin Bell get out of the water, how can anything be bad ina  world where THAT can exist?

"Couple's Retreat" is on USA right now, never seen it before but the minute I flipped to it, they showed Kristin Bell stripping out of her clothes on the beach.  Immediately thought of ChipRocks.  Now if only they show her in a waterfall, we'll both be happy.

Maybe it's my insane mentality, but putting Newt in that prison could have been REALLY interesting, first of all: bald little girl, freaky, right?  Second, they're all prisoners (if I remember correctly) and the idea of something as pure as a child being thrown into their terrible world could reignite their resolve to escape or damage their tough veneers, give 'em something to live for and then kill 'em all with an Alien.

Of course, I'm sure part of the reason Newt's not in the movie is she grew up too much for the whole "stasis" thing to make sense.

You could kill off the other guy halfway through or earlier, in man-on-man violence rather than an alien death, give him an early heroic out.

I'm sure it's contracts and more that kept those two from reappearing.  But what do I know?

Well, I suppose if I can learn to read a binary clock anything's possible, and I do LIKE the look of them (I doodle little face buttons when I design) but in my head I keep thinking "press smley, frown, upside down!"

When David's walking around the empty ship at the start it felt SO Starbug I could hear the Red Dwarf theme in my head.

And BTW, did anyone notice lots of the buttons didn't have numbers or letters on them?  How are you supposed to tell someone which buttons to press if they're dots?  Doesn't this bug anyone else?
