DVD's & Blu-rays / Re: What Are You Watching? (DVD's & Blu-ray's)

Totally dug Cabin In The Woods.

I watched two Stephen King movies last night-- Thinner and Pet Semetary.  Never seen either before.  I was just in that mood but I should really hold off until it's actually October.  Horror movies are strange for me because they usually never scare me (there are some visuals which repulse me but that's not fright).  Probably has to do with the fact that I don't believe in supernatural horror things.  I lived on property with a graveyard and I was never bothered by no undead horse ghosts.  And both movies have the same issue of people doing stupid things instead of sensible alternatives, PS in particular.  I mean, ask yourself, what would you do: your baby was killed by a truck?  Do you a) make a new baby, something so common it often happens by accident and involves f*cking your hot wife at least once, or b) dig up the corpse of your son, lug him across a foreboding landscape, rebury him, and hope he's not evil?  Forgetting apparently that everyone KNEW he was dead and wouldn't believe he'd come back to life and had to have been EMBALMED and so on before being buried?

I haven't seen this movie since it came out.  I have it on DVD so it's definitely due for a rewatch (and I want to find that penguin in the war scene-- anyone here see it?)

I remember when the movie came out, I dedicated myself to trying to draw that detailed armour Cruise wears.  I did pretty well.

Larry Miller had a cameo in "God Bless America" as the father of this stuck-up sweet 16 girl who had her own reality show.  Very brief, but might have been the most famous person in the flick (it was an awesome flick).  Outside of that, I haven't seen him in anything in ages either.

Especially given that they're all at least THRITY now (Marsden is at least 40).

They were nicely cast but I was hoping for some ironic or unusual casting, I like that sort of thing.  He was using recognizable faces (and locations, the Vasquez Rocks were in there) like it was a movie (and had a trailer which I don't like when comic books do) but it was so short-lived we really couldn't get a chance to dig on that.  I want more "cinematic" feeling comic books... especially because comics don't age like movies or TV shows, since it's art it can feel newer longer.

Probably right.  And it's a series I'd never heard of until he told me about it (we were talking caricatures and he mentioned that title-- and it's so clear who all the main cast is based on).

I totally get that.  It's just kind of aggravating as a reader... especially because so many other artists are trying to "be" him and fall far short.  He's got this humour to his style that his copiers don't.

EyeTV is made by ElGato, I have two versions and they're okay... certainly easy enough, plug in here, plug in there... the picture just always felt soft to me, maybe because it was  displayed in a small window on a sharp laptop screen instead of filling a CRT).

I do like Campbell's princesses (particularly Tinkerbell... rowr) but I want to see them IN something, some narrative where they all interact or something.  Not just pin-ups.

I dig his Ruff Stuff sketchbooks quite a bit but I do wish we had more books coming from him, Wildsiderz and so on.

Which I totally understand, but I agree.  Maybe they could bring in some other people (like they have Peter from /Filmcast on every now and then) to give the show a little more content when they do film reviews).

I love those art of coffee table books, but I have no space for any of them anymore (and no spare cash to buy them).  I think I'm happy enough now to make my own.  I will definitely look through that Prometheus one for inspiration though.  The last one I looked through was the Dark Knight trilogy, but it's easy enough to get the lesson of that design:  Simplicity.  Got it.

I've never heard of that caricature book before but I'll have to check it out, I'm big on trying to get likenesses down so a book ALL about that is right up my alley (even if I'm not intentionally funny WITH them).

I have a PILE of books to read-- proper books, Robopocalypse, Not Exactly The Three Musketeers, Wool.  I'm also still listening to "Rendezvous with Rama" (I know, listening isn't reading!).

I'm liking TRS more when they play games and so on but I also miss when they would go out and do crazy stuff like geocaching or running a marathon or Raised On Rad.

The problem with the reviews... especially the movie reviews... is now Danny is an actual movie director and he doesn't want to comment.  Which I understand but he usually had good insights and the show is robbed of that now.

Their comic book reviews I've never been that fond of.  I like that there's a comic-centric show (though I read very few comics now) but Itried the show and didn't care for the host either.  I guess I want more in-depth content.

Yeah, there aren't any other blondes in Hollywood...

Seriously, on my mind since "Vampires in Venice..."
