The last few paragraphs in the article are very telling. I agree, the pendulum is swinging way to the side and it will stop. There was an article I read the other day (not sure I can find it), but it dealt primarily with the onslaught of comic book movies and how the (young) audience is showing signs of tiredness. Yep, it’s gonna take a few major crashes for the studio’s to reassess their direction. Right now, it appears so limited. I can’t think of the last time I was beaming with excitement on a tent pole movie and telling friends to check it out.

I am curious on the numbers regarding who is going to the movies. This article says young people are going less, and I would think that be true with their viewing habits, but isn’t the big budget films for those young folks? I know my tastes have changed and I’m in that demographic that likes more adult oriented material. When I go and pay money for those films, the screening room is not packed, but it’s not empty either with people my age. We do go to the movies.

Good article. I think we need to see the pendulum stop and come back. Yes, there will be a loss in good filmmakers, but there will be new ones right in line behind.
