Uh-oh, is Sharknado the new Rocky Horror?

Fandango is reporting that Syfy’s Sharknado sold out midnight showtimes in three cities – New York, Boston, and Seattle – and additional showtimes were added continuously to meet fan demand. The cult phenom is playing on roughly 200 screens in movie theaters across the country. Fandango called the sales pace ”bloody good” for screenings hosted by Regal and NCM Fathon Events. Sharknado premiered on Syfy on July 11th, drawing just 1.4 million total viewers. But social media interest was high and a repeat viewing a week later on Syfy drew about a half-million more viewers. Starring Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, the pic’s nonsensical plot investigates the ecological nightmare of sharks caught in a tornado and falling from the skies into the streets of Los Angeles. The network has already ordered a 2014 version.

Ian Ziering > Luke Perry & Jason Priestly

Hahaha. Ya gotta admit that this is something no one saw coming. Luke and Jason never had a movie become a cult hit. Now Ian better capitalize on his new 15 minutes. Okay, 8 minutes.

Brilliant

When Syfy announced that they'd be gracing us with a second "Sharknado" movie, they asked people to submit ideas for a title on Twitter. Well, they got more than 5,000 suggestions . . . and now they've picked one.

It's going to be: "Sharknado 2: The Second One". And it's coming to Syfy sometime NEXT July. Obviously, that's a BRILLIANT title . . . but not everyone loves it.

It looks cool, but having heard how Doug Liman makes movies, I'm a little hesitant about how good it'll be.

What's wrong with Doug Liman? I like his movies.

(I can't believe I have to type this whole thing in again)

Basically, the problem with Doug Liman (there was a Podcast that talked about this in detail, but I can't find it) is that he's sort of an indecisive director:  he gathers all this funding and starts shooting, then changes his mind on what he wants, recasts parts, changes scenes... when the money runs out he stops, then gets more funding and comes back to the project months later with a whole bunch of new change and they go again.  Mr and Mrs Smith had something like eight wrap parties.  And if you pay attention to his later flicks, you'll notice that characters drop out of the story for a long time, don't have any payoff, that pipe is laid down that's never followed up upon... it's crazy.

This looks fantastic...

How would you spend your final hours?

Opening this June via Roadshow Films, here’s an insane new trailer for the apocalyptic thriller These Final Hours from Celluloid Nightmares.

Zak Hilditch’s feature debut explores the question “What would you do on the last day on Earth?” through the eyes of a self-obsessed young man, played by Nathan Phillips, on his way to the party-to-end-all-parties.

The thriller earned Hilditch the Critics’ Award for Best Australian feature at the Melbourne International Film Festival.
