Big Hero 6
« on: May 20, 2014, 02:51:12 pm »

This flick is coming out... late summer, but I haven't heard much about it.  A Disney animated flick based on the little-known Marvel comic book.  I'm not sure what to expect, but when I heard about it, I got a vibe like this might be a dark horse like The Iron Giant was.  So it's worth keeping an eye on.

The first images got released and I'm getting a bit of an Astro Boy vibe off the look of it.  We shall see...

That's where the story takes place, a mix of Tokyo and San Francisco.  It actually makes me think of "Man In The High Tower," but I've never seen the concept done so beautifully before.

Off topic, just that 30 second teaser makes me WANT this to be turned into a open world video game. I don't know anything about the movie, it's characters, plot, etc....But the idea of being able to roam around a city like THAT makes me salivate at the idea.

Seems like it would be a change of pace compared to the open worlds I've seen in recent video games.  You get the idea that there's all sorts of mood and all sorts of fun to be had behind every wall and around every corner.

OK, now that was a teaser. I dunno know what that other clip did, except make Chip a bit wet.

Those animator's must have had a blast with the dynamics of a balloon. We've all been there done that... but not with a robot.

I wanna see this.

Trailer!  I wasn't expecting the city stuff to look so good!  And I'm digging Hiro and Beymax.  I love that we can't be seeing more than the first 1/3rd of the flick, I appreciate that.

Article on io9 about what went into making Beymax and Big Hero 6/  There is a paragraph of story that I would jump over (I worry I already know too much), but it's an interesting little read.  Definitely reminds me of when I was heavily influenced by Japanese style and trying to integrate that into my worldbuilding (I guess I still am).

I rather liked that one line about how "the story of a movie comes from research."  I just happened to be tooling around with the prep for a story and realized how much of it I'm making up... now I feel bad about that.

Hey, we all do that, myself included. Sometimes when I'm researching something in great detail, I get to the point that I think I know my sh*t. But what it turns out to be is that I'm just sick of researching and start writing to get out of research mode, not realizing that everything is just going to have to be junked anyway when I come to my senses again.
