Hitchock

I typically don't talk about rumors, but since this has started production, I guess we will see light of it.

Quote
Ralph Macchio, best known as The Karate Kid, has signed on to Hitchock (formerly Hitchock And The Making Of Psycho), says Deadline. Macchio will play Psycho screenwriter Joe Stefano.

Anthony Hopkins plays Hitch****, Helen Mirren plays Alma Reville, Scarlett Johansson plays Janet Leigh, and Jessica Biehl plays Vera Miles. The Sacha Gervasi-directed adaptation of the Stephen Rebello book is just getting underway through Montecito Picture Co and Fox Searchlight.

“‘Hitchock’ is a love story about one of the most influential filmmakers of the last century, Alfred Hitch**** and his wife and partner Alma Reville. The film takes place during the making of Hitch****’s seminal movie ‘Psycho.’”

Scarlett Johansson talks playing Janet Leigh in Hitchcock biopic

Scarlett Johansson talks Avengers, sex symbol status and a whole lot more in the brand new issue of Total Film magazine (also available in our shiny new interactive iPad edition).

We took the opportunity to ask her about playing an iconic screen figure in Hitchcock, and here's what she told us:

You’re about to play Psycho star Janet Leigh opposite Anthony Hopkins’ Alfred Hitchcock. Excited?

“I’m very excited to play her. There was never really an actor I wanted to portray or do a bio of but I do love Janet Leigh. I’ve always loved her. She was such a good actor and sexy. But it never got in the way of her work.

"She was spunky and her relationship with Hitchcock was famously one of great admiration and affection between them.”

On being dubbed a sex symbol herself, Johansson added:

“I never wanted to be a sex symbol. I wanted to be a character actor. Those are the actors I often mostly admire.

"But I think that women that are curvy can be pigeonholed in that bombshell thing. I never think of my characters as that way."

On a tangent note...

Quote
If you're a fan of Alfred Hitchock (and really, who isn't?), you better buckle up because there is a whole lotta Hitch coming your way (and fyi, today is his birthday too!). Two movies about the legendary filmmaker are just around the corner with Toby Jones playing the director in the upcoming "The Girl" with Sienna Miller as Tippi Hedren, and there's Anthony Hopkins leading "Hitchcock" alongside a helluva ensemble that includes Helen Mirren, Scarlett Johansson, James D'Arcy, Jessica Biel, Toni Colette, Danny Huston, Michael Stuhlbarg, Michael Wincott, Kurtwood Smith, Wallace Langham and Ralph Macchio. And that's not all. Next month Universal is dropping "Alfred Hitchock: The Masterpiece Collection" on BluRay, a boxset of 15 iconic films, 13 of which on the high def format for the first time. But for those looking for a quick journey through Hitchcock's films, the interwebs has you covered.

Over on YouTube, a dedicated fan has put together a nearly 10 minute long video featuring every single cameo by the director is his films, from the silent "The Lodger" all the way through to "Family Plot." It's an interesting journey, one that sees the director oscillating from Where's Waldo style appearances in the background, to very obvious winks at the audience. Either they, it's part of the pleasure of watching a Hitchcock movie, so check 'em all about below.

Alfred Hitchock says: don't use your cell phone in the theater

Quote
The first official trailer for Hitch****, which chronicles prolific director Alfred Hitch**** whilst making his classic horror film Psycho, just debuted recently, and Anthony Hopkins looks to turn in another Oscar worthy performance. Now we get to see even more of Hitch**** in the form of a PSA meant for movie theaters that tells patrons not to use their cell phone during the film. While this video looks like a bootleg from a movie theater, this was sent out through official channels, so this isn't pirated. We're not sure if they're trying to make this video seem viral, but we at least get more of Hopkins as Hitch****. Watch below!

Quote
Sacha Gervasi (Anvil! The Story of Anvil) is directing Hitch****, written by John McLaughlin (Black Swan) and based on the book Alfred Hitch**** and the Making of Psycho by Stephen Rebello. Anthony Hopkins plays director Alfred Hitch**** and is supported by a great cast including Helen Mirren, Scarlett Johansson, Danny Huston, Toni Collette, Jessica Biel, Michael Stuhlbarg, James D'Arcy and more. The film, a love story, takes place during the making of Hitch****'s seminal film Psycho. Fox Searchlight opens Hitch**** in limited theaters on November 23rd, the Friday after Thanksgiving. Se the poster here and stay tuned.
