‘Mallrats 2′ Is in the Works, Kevin Smith Says

It's official.
I'm definitely interested in seeing this, but this is not going to get me to go to the theaters. Waiting for this to hit the DVD market. I can wait. All I want out of this sequel is to get the same actors to come back. Something tells me that's not gonna be the case. I don't see Shannen returning and all I see is a cameo from Affleck. And London has been in deep sh*t for quite some time. I don't even know if he is acting anymore.

They could be all-new rats for an all-new generation.

Or, like I suggested earlier, the kid versions of the characters, going to check out the dead body behind the Old Navy at the Park Royal mall.  It fits current Kev more than just a goofy mall movie.

‘Mallrats 2′ Adds Jeremy London and Ethan Suplee

Really cool to see Kevin Smith locking down the old regulars. I wasn't sure it would happen given how their personal lives have been lately. Nice to see I was worried for nothing.

I'm actually getting a little excited about this one, I have to say.

‘Mallrats 2′ Will Be Kevin Smith’s Next Film

Kevin Smith has decided to make MR2 his next film, dropping his previous obligations due to availability. So, we will be seeing this a lot sooner than expected, which I'm A-OK with.

Something I had totally forgotten about until now is that this means a new Kev Smith soundtrack, and I'm all for that.  I'm hoping the budget will be there for some choice tunes.

A week, actually.  I was in the hospital, see, my trouser leg got caught on the damn escalator and a bloodbath ensued.

Seriously, my computer just went skippy and I had to send it out to get it fixed.

You know, I was thinking about the direct-to-home movie thing, Netflix doing the Pee-Wee movie and so on, and it seems weird that Kev Smith doesn't go that route, his movies are perfect for that kind of release (Tusk really would have benefited from this, the audience seeing it at once while buzz was at the highest, rather than a meager indie theatrical release with a lot of talk and then a media release when no one gave a d*mn anymore).

I'm watching Mallrats now and one reason I'm excited is, honestly, now Kevin knows how to freakin' write a movie.  The original Mallards is just pieced together, there's a 2 1/2 hour cut I've never made it through, there's not a lot of balance or noticeable beats... it's a movie that taught him how to make a movie.  Honestly, I like Clerks and Clerks II, but Clerks is an indy flick and Clerks 2 is a small-budget movie.  Big difference.  I know that Kev's been tossing around this idea for a while (since the original Mallrats) but I imagine it's only been written recently.  And let's not forget Kev Smith actually DID help write a Die Hard movie.
