Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim

I'll be watching the progress of this little puppy...

Quote
Pacific Rim is set to be a "monster movie of massive scale" according to one of the film's stars Charlie Day. The actor spoke to Bloody Disgusting's Australian correspondent Maria Lewis (@moviemazz) when he visited the country promoting Horrible Bosses recently and said he's just as excited as everyone else when it comes to the hype surrounding Guillermo del Toro's next feature film.

"What's always exciting about Guillermo del Toro is that's justifiable excitement because he's a really unique and talented director," he said.

"It's nice to see people who have such strong, creative and playful visions to get to make want they want to make.

"I'll tell you, it's a monster movie of massive scale.

"I don't know what to expect, I'm just looking forward to being one of Guillermo's creations."

Pacific Rim follows the story of an alien attack that threatens the Earth's existence and the humans who are deployed in giant robots to fight off the extraterrestrial menace. Sons Of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam has been cast in the film, along with The Wire's Idris Elba, Day, Clifton Collins Jr and Rinko Kikuchi who's a personal favourite for playing the bad-ass yet silent Bang Bang in The Brothers Bloom. Filming is set to start in Toronto in November.

Since Legendary Pictures announced they were making the film in May last year, del Toro has frequently been quoted as saying Pacific Rim will be once of the scariest monster movies ever made. Day said the film will be both a "scary and fun ride."

"He's made some bold statements and I'm not going to sit here and back them up," he said.

"I don't doubt he has the ability to make something truly terrifying based on previous body of work.

"I'm not sure what's in Guillermo's mind and there's a lot that could be left to creative interpretation.

"It will be frightening, but I think it's also his goal to make it fun.

"It will be something we haven't seen in a world that's completely new."

Ron Perlman Joins Del Toro's "Realistic" 'Pacific Rim' Battle!

Quote
Mexican director Guillermo del Toro is about to embark on his largest endeavor of his career - literally and figuratively. Del Toro is back behind the camera (as of Monday) for Pacific Rim, a giant monster vs robot movie that will star Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Rob Kazinsky, and now Ron Perlman. Perlman has starred in del Toro's Hellboy, Hellboy II, Blade II and Cronos.

In speaking with Wired, he also revealed his intent for Legendary and Warner Bros. Pictures' enormous battle -- to make it completely realistic: "It’s really, it’s a very, very beautiful poem to giant monsters. Giant monsters versus giant robots. Twenty-five-story-high robots beating the crap out of 25-story-high monsters," said del Toro. "We’re trying to create a world in which the characters are real and how it would affect our world politically, how it would affect the landscape if creatures like this really came out of the sea, etc."

In theaters May 10, 2013, the pic is set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.

Fans of Guillermo del Toro will have to wait a bit longer for his giant monster flick Pacific Rim as Warners pushed the film deep into summer locking in a new July 12, 2013 date. Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Rob Kazinsky and Ron Perlman all star in the pic set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, and the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.

Charlie Hunnam and Ron Pearlman together. All we need now is some Katey Sagal.

I'm actually looking forward to this. Not sure what to make of the new selected date though.

Official ‘Pacific Rim’ Plot Reveals Monster & Robot Origins!

Quote
From acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ epic sci-fi action adventure Pacific Rim. Website MarketSaw landed the official synopsis:

“When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.”

Oscar nominee Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth) is directing Pacific Rim from a script by Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans). Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Mary Parent are producing, with Callum Greene serving as executive producer.

The film stars Charlie Hunnam (TV’s “Sons of Anarchy”), Idris Elba (Thor), Rinko Kikuchi (The Brothers Bloom), Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses), and Ron Perlman (the Hellboy films). The ensemble cast also includes Max Martini, Robert Kazinsky, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Diego Klattenhoff, and Brad William Henke.

The battle begins on July 12, 2013.

Look, if you're dealing with giant monsters, furthermore, giant robots...****'s going to get wrecked.  So, when you think about Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim and the on-screen carnage, you think B-I-G.  After all, it's about the human race creating giant robots to contend with the giant monsters that threaten the planet.

In an interview with Total Film, Del Toro was asked about the scale of which his film is dealing with, the maniac responded with this: "When we’re talking about the physicality of the fight, we ended up building several blocks of Hong Kong. And literally demolished them. We built a building and then we took down the buildings.  We built command centres of the robots that were the size of the house. We started them on hydraulic rigs that shoot and elevated them and moved them round so you could really get a sense of the physical nature driving a robot like this."

Idris Elba Looks Kinda SyFy In This ‘Pacific Rim’ Snapshot

Quote
Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ Guillermo del Toro directed epic sci-fi action adventure Pacific Rim has been keeping impressively quiet regarding officially released media. I’ve heard great things from people who have seen more to do with the project than I have, which is why I’m sort of surprised by my lackluster reaction to the pic of Idris Elba below.

In the film “When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end.

Del Toro is directing from a script by Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans). Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Mary Parent are producing, with Callum Greene serving as executive producer. The ensemble cast also includes Max Martini, Robert Kazinsky, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Diego Klattenhoff, and Brad William Henke.

Head inside for the pic. Pacific Rim is out on July 12, 2013.

The new Comic-Con issue of Entertainment Weekly has hit stands and it’s got a couple of cool looks at some of your most anticipated films from the event. First up is an image of Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi suited up for action in Guillermo del Toro’s epic sci-fi adventure Pacific Rim.

Del Toro recently stated that the battles in the film will take place everywhere, “We take the battles far and above! Two or three of them happen in places where there have never been a battle between kaiju and robots. From the bottom of the ocean to the atmosphere of the Earth. We have a battle in a storm at sea. Every battle we try to do differently. One is seen from the point of view of a single person. We never cut away from that point of view.” With the helmets the characters are wearing in the pic I can’t exactly tell which one it will be.
