Exactly my thought. And as cool as it is to see the D flying again, it's the characters of those movies that mean so much to us. I don't want the DeLorean, I want Back To The Future. That's the double-edged sword of nostalgia pulls like this.
As cool as it is to see the Iron Giant walking around (although he still looks a LOT like a cartoon), so much of what made that 80s stuff cool is the characters who used it, we don't just want Ghostbusters gear, we want to hang out with the Ghostbusters, we want to time travel with Doc, etc. This could easily turn into just watching people play with their toys (the book did feel a bit too "fanboy wishlist" at times: Wade flies the Serenity, for example). There's only a few examples of the character interacting like with Max Headroom (who I DIDN'T see listed in the IMDB, I might add). Most of the time, it's just cool for the sake of cool.
