I swore we had a thread on Skyfall

Here's How Sean Connery Almost Played a Part in 'Skyfall'

Quote
This Friday, fans of the longest-running film series will finally catch a glimpse of Daniel Craig as 007 in the new Skyfall, directed by Sam Mendes. The Oscar-winning filmmaker recently spoke to Huffington Post about his development of the 23rd film in the spy franchise, which finds Bond's loyalty to M tested as the past comes back to haunt them.

Mendes has been telling the media he wanted his installment in the series to delve deeper into 007's motivations and personal history. (If you don't' want any minor details about Skyfall divulged, consider this your spoiler alert.) He delivered on that promise, taking us to Bond's childhood home of Skyfall Lodge, where we are introduced to Kincade — the gamekeeper of the Bond family estate. English actor Albert Finney plays the caretaker, but in the interview with Mendes, the director admits that he almost swapped the award-winning star for a familiar face to the franchise. When asked about the scene in Scotland with Finney and if Sean Connery was ever considered for the role, Mendes had this to say:

"There was a definite discussion about that — way, way early on. But I think that's problematic. Because, to me, it becomes too… it would take you out of the movie. Connery is Bond and he's not going to come back as another character. It's like, he's been there. So, it was a very brief flirtation with that thought, but it was never going to happen, because I thought it would distract."

As much as we adore Connery and his contribution to the Bond films, we couldn't agree with Mendes more. It's too hard to separate the Scottish actor from his 007 roots, but the idea of seeing his smug mug once more in the Bond universe tickles us regardless. Connery has stated he's retired from acting, but who knows where he might turn up one day. We hope future 007 filmmakers have the same good sense as Mendes, though. Check out the full interview with the director over here.

I had to stop at the Spoiler Alert. Anyway, the idea of Connery making a cameo would have been cool, but you'd also have to find one for Roger Moore somewhere. They should have a scene with Sean, Roger, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Bronson in a bar drinking when Daniel Craig's Bond ends up running through the bar during a chase sequence. It would be fast enough so it wouldn't end up being too cheesy, but long enough for fan service.
