Drew is synonymous with some of the biggest and baddest movie posters of all time. His name is the only one on the list to do Episode VII. Saying that he is undecided is a smart move on his part. Get the contract with my zero's on the end. That my friend is how you play them for fools. Ka-Ching!!

IGN News - J.J. Abrams Reportedly Directing Star Wars: Episode VII

Was NOT expecting this because I thought he already excused himself from the list of possible directors.

JJ Abrams Directing Star Wars Episode VII Discussion

I didn't even think about them replacing John Williams. I just assumed that he would still be the go-to guy.

My big issue is like a monopoly thing.  I remember a couple months ago someone here posted an infographic of which studios have which movies.  And it was very limited.  And now if you have one director doing so many things across the board, the audience is getting less variety in product.  And no matter how good or bad the product is, that's a bad thing.  You know, I love my Apple computer, but I'm glad that Apple isn't my only choice for any electronic device I can get.

My big concern when I heard Disney was doing a new flick was that it was going to look just like Pirates, Alice In Wonderland, John Carter etc, and that prospect was not appealing.  Now I know it won't.  But I know it'll look like Mission Impossible, Star Trek, Super 8, and quite frankly, a lot of other movies.

I understand your concern about it looking like a JJ Abrams film. Hell, I was joking with Mac the other day that Star Wars would be nothing but Lens Flares. But I wouldn't count out JJ in doing the right thing for the film. I actually see him dialing it back on some of his style choices. All I want to see with the new Trilogy is quicker cuts and edits to emphasis the action. The Wipe Transitions worked for the Original Trilogy, but it was very old hat for the second Trilogy and made it extremely boring and slow when it should have been an ADD kid on 10 Red Bulls.

I am so sick of lens flares jokes.  I don't mind that so much as I do the incomprehensible computer layouts.

I'm not saying JJ won't make an awesome movie (although to be fair, he already made "Star Wars" when he made Star Trek so I have no idea what he'll do this time), I'm just saying it's sort of a conflict of interest.  We only have two big spaceship flicks and they're gonna be done by the same guy?  That don't gel right.  Thank goodness "Space Command" is in the pipeline at least but that's still years away.

What *I'M* big on for the new trilogy: a cool female protagonist.  Someone cool like Korra and Lyra Belacqua or Asuka.  Make it something different.

And my half-joke was that we might get Shane Black to direct Star Trek III (Star Trek Into Light?)

That's a bonus in having JJ at the helm since he is big on Females in the Lead Role (Felicity, Alias, Fringe). Not sure where the script stands, but I'm sure he will have some input into this. The only other person that would fit into that mold of championing a Heroine would be Joss Whedon and we all know that he is tied up for a good while.

Very true.  It just seems like a natural after Padme and Leia to have a kick-ass female in the lead role.  But it still seems like an unlikely thing.  And on the subject of Hollywood limitation, you know it'll be Chloe Moretz or the maybe three young girls who are in everything.

Maybe it's just me being more in tune with movies than I used to be, but I just want to be surprised and to see something new and I relaly doubt that I will with these flicks.

So would you like to see a "name" actress in the lead role or an unknown?

I want the right person for the right role, it may be someone with a lot of TV and small parts that someone couldn't name off the top of their head (like Sammi Hanratti, for example), it might be a name... especially for younger actors, since there's only a few who can deliver... but it's the same thing with JJ, I don't want it to feel like the first name someone threw out.

What I want is a movie that makes me say "wow, I never thought I'd see something like that."

I just don't want the studio sticking their big fat faces in and plugging people like Selena Gomez or whoever into the movie, just to get a certain age demographic. Ugh.

I'm hearing the BTS interviews now, "Oh my god, it was SO strange, right, cause we're on this green stage and they were like 'there's an alien here,' and months later you see the aliens and you just go 'oh my GOD, I'm FIGHTING aliens!  It's just SO magical, you know?"  Just the most vapid, empty non-talk you could hear.  And a pop with lyrics cover of one of the score pieces afterwards for Radio Disney and their channels to fill up some space and sell some records.

I'm not worried about THAT, JJ has a good eye for talent.

The other concern I have and what more or less ruined the second trilogy was George writing in scenes for the sole purpose of turning them into dolls, video games, cartoons, etc...Sure, you can look at the universe as a whole being one giant toy store. But I think you get the idea of writing in things that really don't belong in a movie (Pod Race anyone?). I want dark and gritty. I don't want the same old Star Wars film....just keep the spirit of it alive for the new films without them being carbon copies.

I don't want dark and gritty.  I am so tired of dark and gritty and moody.

Star Wars should be light and fun.  Sure, the universe they live in might be gritty and dirty and tough to live in, but it's swashbuckling, it's adventurous, it's King Arthur and Robin Hood.  Gimme a break with the dourness.  Especially after the last movie where the kids were slaughtered and the universe fell and the heroes died and Anakin got all his limbs cut off and he's screaming in the lava in agony.  Don't we deserve some fun after that?

Here's the thing about toys and video games: they can make 'em out of ANYTHING.
