If the movie's good, I'll be happy.  I'm not a big enough Star Wars fan to really excite myself into a frenzy about it (there's few movies now that will have that effect on me)... I wouldn't even say I'm cautiously optimistic, my only real hope is that I'm made to look a fool for doubting this movie.  Then I'll be happy.

I've been saying for a while now that I'd rather see the NEXT Star Wars than the next "Star Wars."  But in the meantime, this could totally rock the roof off the house.

Star Wars: Episode VII - Should Han Solo Be the Focus? - IGN Keepin' It Reel Podcast

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLC8AHo14so&index=22&list=PLp2e7UfInEgmB-5r4rtQOEsq-H-mNmQhk

This is all spoiler-free and nothing but speculation and opinions from the IGN panel. So, it's safe to watch. As for Han, I absolutely believe 100% that they will kill him off. It was the FIRST thing I thought of when news first broke that Harrison Ford was coming back. I immediately thought of Ford's original idea/hope for his character being killed off in Return of the Jedi. With George Lucas now "out of the picture", killing Han off comes closer and closer to happening. Do I want them to kill off Han? I don't know. If it did the series and the character justice and kick-started the story into a whole other gear, I would be for it. But if they are just killing him off for the sake of killing him off, then absolutely not. But I'm pretty sure that Ford had it written into his contract that 'Han Solo must die' for him to agree to terms to do the movie. It's just a question of when it happens. First, second or third movie. My 2 cents.

Star Wars Episode 7 - Old Cast vs. New Cast

I like everyone's reasons for who they are looking forward to the most. I didn't bother putting up the additional Podcast that IGN is doing as it was a little redundant. Besides, they are going to be milking every morsel of information from now until release day. FYI, this clip isn't part of the podcast. Entirely different and fun.

This is a treat. I wasn't expecting to see anything until the initial trailer drops. This is just behind the scenes stuff here and I like that they did this for the fans.

Star Wars: Episode VII - A Return to Practical Effects - IGN Conversation

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDhUci3CeJk&index=37&list=PLp2e7UfInEgmB-5r4rtQOEsq-H-mNmQhk

I absolutely like the idea of more practical effects in this one. The OVERKILL of CGI in the prequels (besides the horrible dialogue and weak story) is what killed those 3 movies for me. And they also touched up on the one thing I didn't like and that was the CGI Yoda. Sure, we got to see him wield a lightsaber, but the character itself was lifeless compared to the puppet as seen in Empire and Jedi. What are you're thoughts on Practical Vs CGI? This is for both Mac and Neumatic.

Here's the thing: there's terrible CGI characters (Jar Jar Binks), but there's terrible practical puppet characters as well (Mac and Me for example).

There's also fantastic puppet characters: obviously Yoda, the Muppets, the Alien Queen, Pilot and Rygel... well, any of the fantastic Farscape creatures, and there's fantastic CGI characters as well: Gollum from Lord Of The Rings, Chris from District 9, Caesar from Planet Of The Apes...

What do they all have in common?  Well, they're all fantastically put together, obviously, but that's a suspension of disbelief issue.  What makes them work, what makes them real, is the human connection they make.  They're strong characters that are then brought to life in the best way possible.  Look at Roger Rabbit, it's 2D cartoons with real people, they don't fit in together at all, but people remember Jessica Rabbit and that shoe getting dipped in the Dip, why?  It's the CHARACTER, that HUMAN element that transcends pixels and plastic, that the audience remembers.

It all starts with a great script, and a great script starts with great characters.

Neumatic makes some valid points. From an over context in discussion, I think people like the idea of practical more so than CGI because of, well, bad CGI and badly portrayed characters.

Did you really need the video when the picture would have sufficed (incidentally, the picture is the PERFECT tease image even if the set photos hadn't been leaked).  And I know I wanted to avoid spoilers but part of me does dig the fact that they're rebuilding those two ships.  I've kind of come around since finishing Star Trek Destiny (no, I didn't read a WHOLE 830 page book in a week-- I took some days off), after reading that, I wanna see a rebuilt Enterprise D real bad.  So unless I want to be a hypocrite, more power to this.
