It's definitely not part of the film... the film comes out in 150 days, and it takes 150 days to get from Earth to Mars, so I think that this is the start of the timeline of the film (the movie starts with Mark Watley getting stranded).  So presumably we'll be getting intermittent updates until the landing, which would be the time of the movie premiere (presuming the release date doesn't get changed).

it's a cute idea, I think.

Interesting... A marketing campaign.

Thanks for clarifying that

Yeah, but at least in this case it seems to feel like part of the movie rather than an add-on that doesn't matter (like all the Guy pierce videos for Prometheus), or "side stories" with minor actors using the same sets or something (like Get Smart or The Matrix).  This is the real actors playing their characters in something that adds to the movie, which is shockingly rare.

Full trailer for "The Martian."  Be advised it reveals quite a bit of stuff.  Really, all they needed to do was show Watney be stranded.

Thanks man and thanks for the heads up. I decided to watch it anyway. THAT has some huge potential. I'm excited.

I did pick up the book to read. The first few lines got my attention. I got through 3 chapters which were good. I just didn't find time to keep it and continue. I need to do that.

Article in Popular Science about why NASA helped with the flick... because the mission is exactly what they're planning, minus the drama.

I would love to see this in the theater. I wonder if this is of any interest to my wife. Usually she sees space, spaceships and space men and she goes meh!!!

Saw the flick today.  It was brill.

I took my ma to see it, and she's not big into science fiction at all, but she loved it.  She kept saying afterwards "thank you for making me go see it."  We tried to talk Em into going as well, but no dice (I don't think she ever will, either.  We'll see).  Definitely worth seeing on the big screen.

One thing I thought was weird out of context: there were a TON of previews (I had forgotten how many there were in front of movies, geezus!), and the first one had Chiwitel Ejiofor with a beard... and then forty minutes later, he shows up in the flick looking EXACTLY the same.  That was weird.

I 'was' planning to see it yesterday as well, because the weather sucked. Was going to hit the 4:00 show. Then a series of events changed all that. Crap... Maybe next weekend?
