What Are You Looking Forward To?
« on: May 24, 2014, 10:04:57 am »
A thread for misc movie news and trailers that might not be worthy of their own threads (yet) or just don't have a place anywhere else.

Let's kick this off with the just-releaed international trailer for "The Equalizer," a title that's now the set-up to a joke in my head thanks to "The Wolf Of Wall Street."  Hellooo.

Looks a little similar to an old script I wrote, but a thousand times cooler.  So I'm psyched.  Though I get the impression Chloe Moretz is going to be in five full minutes of the movie.

EDIT: Updated with newer trailer.  They say to experience it in IMAX, but I'm sure it wasn't shot with that camera or with that large scale in mind, there's nothing about this trailer that screams "big, big screen."  Much like 3D, I wish the IMAX releases would be restricted to just the IMAX WORTHY features.

So The Tracking Board just announced the sale of a project called Live **** Girls Unite!, the true story of a strip club where the dancers unionized.  I have heard about this place in my research, and I guess the movie sounds great, but me?

God d*mn this takes the wind out of my sails.  You guys know I've been writing a stripper movie (because I wouldn't shut the f*ck up about it, for which I'm sorry) but ugh... even though mine was different, there WAS an element of this in there, AND it'll be a while before you can have another stripper movie in play, I guess, so my ambitions feel like they got punched in the gut.

I know I have other ideas (I just had a new idea today) but still, that was the one closest to completion and I was proud of it.  Now I have to sit on it.

Dude, I get where you're coming from as I have been on the receiving end of a brilliant idea that someone else had as well. But you STILL need to finish it for yourself. Write the First Draft, get it on paper and then put it aside. That way you can say that you did it without being tainted by what they do in theirs. Chalk it up to a learning experience and just complete the first draft.

I was fixing the second draft!  Of course I can say I did it, there were just some holes that were taking forever to plug up just the right way.

And realistically, a sale doesn't mean it's going to get made, and my story is different, it's unique, and by the time I get it finally done there might be enough time where I can post it and it won't seem too close to that script.

BTW, if you think I'm feeling better, you're dead wrong.

This looks very cool. It's dealing with time dammit. No word on when this will be released.  :-\

It sounds like a most unusual camera.  Most unusual indeed...

Excellent find. That is one of those light bulb moments for me. I saw Serling and bam.... I remember that episode.

The second i heard that premise I thought of the episode.  And then when I saw the trailer and they brought up the horse races, I thought it was a joke.

What to Expect from Upcoming DC Movies - Comic Con 2014

Since this tackles a bunch of properties, gonna post here instead of one specific DC film-related thread.

Thanks to **** for this one:  Harbinger Down.

So remember a couple years ago when they made that "The Thing" prequel and said they were going to use practical effects, but then changed it to CGI at the last minute?  The guys who did the practical effects decided to say "screw it" and make their own movie.  Which is an attitude I love, so I'll be looking forward to this flick.
