And speaking of Harbringer Down and it's practical effects, Blood Glacier was just added to Netflix. Have not checked it out yet.

I've been waiting for Netflix to do this, and I guess they figured out how to make the numbers work because they're getting into ORIGINAL, exclusive movies.  Not cheap documentaries, but exclusive first-run features.  I knew it was only a matter of time, given that HBO has the rights for HALF of the movies coming out until 2020, and the licensing costs have to be skyrocketing.  But the choices are... odd.

First of all: there's a freakin' SEQUEL to Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon coming out, and opinions are split.  There's people who wonder "why?" and others who see the names Yuen Wo-Ping directing and Donnie Yen and Michelle Yeoh starring and think "there's NOTHING there I don't like!"  Seriously, that's a cincher for me.  And it's going to be an IMAX flick, so you have that option (but no regular theatrical release).

And on top of that, Adam Sandler just signed a four-picture deal with Netflix.  Which I guess makes sense, he has an audience on there, and I guess it'll help give Netflix a nice stack of cash to go after more projects... I'm hoping that they go for more interesting fare, I don't want just different versions of what I could get in the theater, I want the movies that the theater can't give me: the mid-budget dramas, comedies, the stuff that can do well but not make back a 100 million advertising budget back.  Considering how lackluster their movie selection is becoming, I kinda thought Netflix would be playing more movie moneyball... dividing up their money into more medium budget movies to fill out the ranks... but I guess they know what they're doing.  Like, you know how Lincoln was almost on HBO, and how Behind The Candelabra was theatrical in other countries but straight to TV here?  That's what i want to see, films that audiences will dig but don't lend themselves to the massive blitz required to open a feature for one big weekend.

One thing I do want them to do is to design a new, awesome Netflix opening logo.  Something to stand up against the Universal, 20th Century Fox, Paramount, Disney, Dreamworks etc logos, you know?  Design something that would look amazing on the big screen, not just have the letters pop up.  Be grand about it.

I'm a huge fan of Crouching Tiger, but I'm not quite sold on the idea of a sequel.....yet. It's a wait and see approach for me because right now, it seems like this idea is just circumventing the typical "Direct-to-DVD" route that was the bread and butter of video rental houses and now calling it by a new name: Netflix. If they can produce a high quality, worthy successor to the original, then great. But if budget becomes an issue (which is likely) and they start cutting corners.....well, there is a reason why those direct-to-DVDs suck. As I said, I'll wait and see what the final product looks like, which will then inform me that Netflix is heading in the right direction and is serious about make it's mark in producing Hollywood level content.

I don't know if Crouching Tiger 2 IS a direct-to-DVD affair or if that's just the way it's going to be released in America.  I think it might be like the "Dragon Dynasty" releases that were "exclusive" to Blockbuster (you could get them anywhere, but you could only rent them from Blockbuster, which I doubt was true).  They were a collection of awesome, contemporary, quality Hong Kong action flicks that I'm sure were theatrical, and the Blockbuster thing was just after the fact.  It kind of sounds like that's what's happening with CT2, that Netflix might just be the final piece of the financing puzzle to get the flick going.  I think that's the deal with some of their "exclusive" series too, but I'm not certain.

Sandler's flicks, on the other hand, sound like they're directly being commissioned, "make this for us because we want them."

Although honestly, I think this is going to be different than direct-to-DVD or TV movies of the past.  Why?  Go to Best Buy or go to Target and look at what passes for "TV"s these days.  That's why it's different.

Kingsmen

Amazingly, the last trailer for this flick is the one that makes me want to see it the most.  It definitely looks like a fun throwback to old James Bond/Avengers UK type flick, plus lots of fun character actors (take note of the frightened dude in the brown suit)

Let's hug it out, b*tches.

Okay, I havent' seen the show since the fourth season so I have no clue what's happened with anyone, and I don't know how you all feel about the show, that's why I didn't start a new thread), but it's on my radar, so here's the trailer.

I notice HJO is in the flick as well, and it looks like he's going to play another violent crazy guy.  Interesting career trajectory.

I love the series myself, but I too dropped out after Season 5 I think. I have the remainder of the series on DVD with the exception of the final season which I still have to buy. I need to carve out some time to finally watch it all and then which point I can get pumped for the movie. Right now, for obvious reasons, I won't watch the trailer till I wrap up the series.

Cool.

Via FilmSchoolRejects, here's the 52 movies that they're looking forward to.  "Kitchen Sink" sounds amazing.

Here's what I'm not looking forward to, according to ****: ****.com/quick-fixes/5-movie-tv-trends-youll-start-to-hate-in-2015/" class="bbc_link" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Five Trends You'll Start To Hate in 2015.  Splintered streaming, anthologies about everything under the sun (sort of torpedoing one of my ideas, which is okay), more reboots of more recent stuff, adaptations that don't need to exist... ugh, it's tiring already.

Yep, I'd agree with all of those. Especially #1, #2 & #3

As far as the Network streaming service, that's going to have to work it's way through. I'd imagine someone will come up with software/hardware that will consolidate, track and manage all that stuff.

If cable was smart, they would start a la carte sooner than later. I'm not even sure if their hands are tied with regulations. Don't matter, people's tastes are changing.
