Could we be seeing more of "The Last Starfighter?"

You know, it seems to be (and maybe reading this article on Yahoo! is helping push this idea) that given how the original found it's home and it's audience on home release, that maybe this is a film that should be done for a VOD/streaming service instead of mainstream theatrical release.  Don't get me wrong, it should be the high quality that a theatrical release is, but given how the original embraced the new and cutting edge (CGI instead of models for outer space, arcade cabinets, etc), it feels sort of right that they should at least consider that direction.  I think it would also help keep it from falling into studio groupthink which dooms remakes like this.

Is there a big (cult) following to this movie. I barely remember it and what I do remember was cheese.

So if you remake this, would you be making it for the following or go all legit and make a serious flick?

This movie went from "never heard of it" to "I gotta see it."  I HOPE that the attitude (and music) of the trailer is present in the final product:

SLOW WEST, w/ Michael Fassbender and Kod Smit-McPhee

Rock The Casbah

How have I not heard about this until now?  A new comedy with Bill Murray?  Are you kidding?

First trailer for Robin Williams' final movie, Boulevard

Now the bad news...

This movie SUCKED!  I saw it on the festival circuit, Robin Williams was still ALIVE when I saw it, and it was just BORING.  This trailer is advertising the movie they THOUGHT they made, not the boring weak indie drama I had to sit through.  Maybe it feels different now that RW is no longer with us, but on its own merits, the film failed for me.

My favorite bit about the movie, though, was that they shot it here in Nashville because it can pass as any medium sized city in America... but then they included the pink Sub Shop, which is a local icon (and also not going to be around much longer).

Holy sh*t, I called it!  I don't know if you remember, but earlier this year I did a mock-up James Bond intro based on a music video on here, and I jokingly said Ellie Goulding did the theme song.  Well, lo and behold, that looks like what's going to happen.

I just thought that was interesting.

It tis interesting. I remember hearing a rumor way back Adele might do it again, but that really doesn't make sense.

"How about a baby in a blender?"

This is really making me want to read all these old magazines.  God I hope there's some sort of collection of them, like a prestige hardcover compilation or something.

And what timing, with Vacation coming out, Vulture just put out an article about the decline of National Lampoon

Maybe this belongs in another thread, bur Christopher Guest is doing a new flick and it's coming directly to Netflix.  Wicked.

Christopher Guest is hit and miss for me. I don't always 'get' his humor. I'm not sure I would classify Mascots sounding ' hilarious', but it does sound unique. Ya for Netflix.

Well, so we're seeing news that Regal Cinemas is going to start to do bag checks because of the recent... unpleasantness (the unpleasantness happened to be at the theater I used to go to, I saw Galaxy Quest there).  Well, I wasn't really intending to go to the theater again until Star Wars, so MAYBE by then they'll figure out that this approach isn't going to do sh*t to make theatergoers any safer or they'll just stop giving a d*mn and let that just end.  But I can imagine this being another massive nail in the theater-going experience, it's intrusive and slows down admittance to a trickle, ESPECIALLY in a multiplex, four or five security guards for 12-16 screens?  Busy weekend?  Forget it.

I will most likely see Star Wars The Force Awakens when it hits theaters, but it's not going to be within the first few weeks. I prefer to be the only one there for the very reason why there are (and should be) bag checks.
