go (The Motion Picture Soundtrack) 1999

Like all soundtracks that have come before and will come after, they mark the time of what the music landscape was like at that given time. This is no exception here. If anything, this one brings back a lot of memories for me as this was around the time that I was heavy into the club and rave scene and there were a few choice cuts on the soundtrack. I originally got this specifically for a couple of songs after I saw go. The songs in question were for New by No Doubt because this was the only way to get the lastest from the band. The other songs that I wanted were Steal My Sunshine by Len, Magic Carpet Ride by Philip Steir and the song that opens the movie, Fire Up The Shoesaw by Lionrock, which is the one song that takes me back to those clubbing days more than any other.

This is actually a pretty good collection of songs that all mesh well with one another. It's not perfect as there are a couple of duds that just absolutely suck. But there are more good songs here than just those two. Recommend to give this one a shot for.

Fave Songs: New, Steal My Sunshine, Magic Carpet Ride, Fire Up The Shoesaw, Troubled By The Way We Came Together and Good To Be Alive.

Saturday Night Fever (Motion Picture Soundtrack) 1977

Interior Gatefold

I may have been a diehard KISS fan in the middle of the phenomena called Saturday Night Fever, but even I couldn't resist the songs from The Bee Gees. They OWNED the music scene in 1977 and it wasn't just one song, or two, or three. It was five songs that seemed to be in heavy rotation on every damn radio station and I didn't have a problem with that at all. My Mom got me the soundtrack and it was just so cool holding the vinyl album and being able to open it to reveal the disco floor in all it's glory. Pretty cool to have a bunch of pictures on the side as well.

You may be wondering how I could have seen this movie at the time when I was still in elementary school? Yep, I got to see the PG version. Bah! I wanted to know what i was missing from the R-Rated version Anyway, the album is a bit uneven after you get past the first 6 songs, which I think are the best songs here. After that it's a take 'em or leave 'em affair for me. I can do without most of the instrumental songs that are heavy on the disco-ish flavor beats. I do like A Night On Disco Mountain a lot because it kinda reminds of something Bill Conti would have done if he was a part of the disco scene.

Gotta show some love for KC & the Sunshine Band and their epic song Boogie Shoes. Even if the song wasn't in the movie, it would STILL be an awesome kick ass song. This song always gets stuck in my head and makes me want to well......boogie.

Fave Songs: Stayin' Alive, How Deep Is Your Love, Night Fever, More Than A Woman, If I Can't Have You and You Should Be Dancing

Swingers (The Motion Picture Soundtrack) 1996

To listen to the Swingers Soundtrack is to watch the entire movie in your head. There is no getting around it. Each and every song is so identifiable with a scene in the movie that you just can't separate the two. At least that's how it is for me. As I said in my review of the movie Swingers, the music turned me onto Swing music and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. It wasn't a passing fade for me either. I'm still a big fan of the genre as well as the band. But this soundtrack is more than just Daddy. It's got a nice mix of artist and styles on the disc that it offers a little something for everyone. For me it offers a lot a more. How much do I recommend this? So much so that it's the first and only time that I have ever given 10 Stars to an album that isn't perfect. There are a couple of HUGE omissions from the soundtrack, that being Magic Man by Heart and Staying Alive by Marty & Elayne. You will have to go to Swingers Too! to get those songs.

Fave Songs: All of 'em. But the Top 3 for me is Dean Martin's You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You, Kink Floyd's Groove Me and everything by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Ok, that last one was cheating as I was able to sneak 3 songs with just the one band. Sue me.

Really not sure why it would be over 30 bucks. Even back in the day of their peak, CD's were never 30 bucks. Stick with the used copies.

City of Angles - Soundtrack

So this came about because I had Stolen w/ Nicolas Cage. (I've got so many other sitting here, I put it back... for now). Anyway my wife suddenly thought of another Nick Cage movie she loved and the music was important to here. It made the movie for her. So I have not seen the movie but was interested in the music. I still can't believe she likes all the songs. I think she remember some of them and just listened to the rest. She is NOT a Hendrix, U2 or Clapton fan.

Anyway, this collection of songs is either ballad like or rockin blues. Kind of disjointed. As most soundtracks might be. I only like a couple of songs. I'll be interested in seeing what she thinks 15 years later

"If God Will Send His Angels" by U2 – 4:31
"Uninvited" by Alanis Morissette – 4:34
"Red House" by Jimi Hendrix – 3:49
"Feelin' Love" by Paula Cole – 5:37
"Mama, You Got A Daughter" by John Lee Hooker – 3:41
"Angel" by Sarah McLachlan – 4:29
"Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls – 4:50
    "I Grieve" by Peter Gabriel – 8:09
    "I Know" by Jude – 4:34
"Further On Up The Road" by Eric Clapton – 7:26
"Angel Falls" (Gabriel Yared) – 4:54
"Unfeeling Kiss" (Gabriel Yared) – 3:42
"Spreading Wings" (Gabriel Yared) – 4:25
"City Of Angels" (Gabriel Yared) – 7:07

The movie is actually pretty good, but I can't remember one song that was in this (other than looking at the list) as it's been years since I last saw it.
