17 ALTERED ALBUM COVERS

Most of these I've already seen over the years, but it's still cool to see them again.

Quiet Riot record signing at Licorice Pizza in Upland, CA 5/7/1983

I just stumbled on this clip just now, which I find to be really cool, even if it's not MY Licorice Pizza store. While watching this, I just realize that I don't recall there ever being a record signing here. Same goes for Warehouse either. Only Record Stores that I personally remember attending or hearing about were of course at Tower Records. I wonder if being in "a sleepy beach town' had anything to do with the lack of signings. Anyway, enjoy the video.

he's loaded....one of the few musicians smart enough to pimp today's market in the rock/ blues side of thing for sure.

pretty crazy....they do fancy cool sh*t...but it's not cheap for fans...he did a series of blues box sets that are REALLY expensive a year or so back...looked cool but cost a small fortune.

All Things Must Pass Official Trailer 1 (2015) - Documentary

I never thought I'd come to this particular thread to hype a movie. Well, here ya go. I can't wait to see this. I miss Tower Records and this will be a cool way to re-live those fun times I had. It has that Sound City vibe going for the doc, which is a good thing.

Our Tower Records was always too far out of the way (and had a dinky as fvck parking lot) to ever become a habit.

I think I linked in the "What are You Watching?" thread to a documentary on Vimeo called "The Target Shoots First," about the rise and fall of Columbia Record Club, it could make an interesting double feature with this flick.

Any chance you have some photos of your Tower Records you can post? Would love to see them if you have them, yours or otherwise.

Licorice Pizza Crate

Someone on eBay is selling a Licorice Pizza Crate. I see these popping up every once in a while. I would definitely get it for $20 and free shipping and use it to store my LP's in. But the current auction price is way over the top at $125. They will never sell it at that price. The cheapest way to get this would be to print out a 5 cent copy of the image and glue it on a crate you find abandoned in an alley.  ;D

I mentioned a few months ago this cool documentary about the Columbia House Record Club called "The Target Shoots First," and today this old article from the AV Club popped up talking about the documentary and how the problems they had are still around in the age of streaming.

Long article, but interesting.

That was cool to read through. I was a columbia house customer. I knew going in there had to be a catch... my only catch was the records I ordered were more expensive than in the stores. I figured when I fulfilled my obligation, it would be a wash. I just wanted to get those 8 free records for instant gratification. I did dick around with the pushed mailing and returns, but I was focused on just ending that little contract.

That took me back... thanks.
