Merchandise
« on: June 16, 2013, 10:00:35 am »
Lately I've been scouring the net for rock T-shirts. I'm very particular. I can't stand the classic black with some iron on image. I look for creative works of art. Not many go there, but I've found a few.

Anyway, I ran across these two Doobie Brothers T-shirts, demanding high dollar.

Vintage Doobie Brothers 1

Doobie Brothers 2

Now I have a slight used version of these two shirts.

My question is first, how do I know they are collectable vintage? How do I determine the worth of mine if I should decide to sell

Mine does have wear. 3 very small stains (2 mm)

How does one research this? Do I ask a vintage store what they think?
or do I just take a stab at it and offer it for $300 or so?

F*ck getting a quote from a "Vintage Store". It's irrelevant what they have to say. It only matters what YOU want for it. I'm being 100% serious here. I sell stuff on eBay for what I want for it. Sure, the higher price you put on it, the longer it may take to sell. But do you really want to sell it cheaply, only to find out that you could have gotten a lot more for it and then spend the following days, weeks and months regretting selling it for so low? When I first started out selling on eBay, I was dumb and listed a few items based on what the "going rate" was. They sold, but it's still a sore point for me knowing now what I should have priced them at.

All you need is just one person to buy the item you're selling. It means nothing if you get 5000k views and a handful of watchers on your item. You just need that one person to click on 'Buy It Now' and you will be happier for it.

With that out of the way, isn't that an 'Iron-on' Tee in the first link? The second link looks like its an airbrush image.

One other thing, if it wasn't clear in last post, ALWAYS ask for more than you know it will sell when you first list your item. That way you can gauge the traffic you may see with it and then adjust accordingly.

I don't believe either one it the classic iron on decal. While the first one kind of looks that way. The second is just a really nice print job.

Mine is more like the second one, where it looks more part of the shirt than an iron on. And it definitely looks vintage, well worn.

What does this mean.... I tried to load a pic and I had to reduce the size. So got several of these errors. I have each pic down to 273kb.

What does it mean the upload folder is full?

I guess I never told you of my little spell of luck with selling stuff on eBay? In particular CD's. I use to scour used stores for unique items. Sometimes I would find some cool stuff.

I found this never seen before Ozark Mountain Daredevil's CD, wrapped for clearance of $5.

Since I had never seen it before anywhere and nothing online, I just posted it as 'Rare' for $10. It immediately shot up to $60 and then a bidding war went on. I eventually got $100 for it. I knew the used store had another one, snapped it up and sold it for less.

The kicker about this story is I got an email from a person who claims they were the Ozark Mountain Daredevils Manager. He asked me not to lie and say this was rare. I believe he actually said something about fraud and would sue me?

So I did a little more research. First on the CD and then the manager. Anyway, nothing popped up. So I respectfully wrote 'Manager' back and told him where I lived and could not find this CD available anywhere. In my opinion, that made it rare.

Never heard from him again. Dunno.

So maybe, just maybe this might be like that. Cause what I posted earlier is the closest thing to what I have and nothing exactly like it.

But what does it take today to be a seller on eBay? It used to be easy with just some minor info.

But what does it take today to be a seller on eBay? It used to be easy with just some minor info.

As for the "Manager" that emailed you. He was more than likely another seller that didn't want to have to compete with you, eventually selling the same item. The fact that he never got back to you tells me he was in fact a seller.

Selling is pretty easy. It's dealing with sh*tty buyers where you will have to pay attention to. Nowadays, all the power lays in the hands of the Buyers. They can leave positive or negative feedback on your seller page. So, whatever you list for sale, you better make sure the descriptions matches exactly what is in the pic or the seller will pounce and threaten you with negative feedback which does harm seller rep.

But even with the most precise description and clearest pics, there will be a few buyers that will "find" something wrong with the item. Don't be fooled. They will say they are willing to "work with you" to resolve issue by asking for a partial refund. Never and I can't stress this more, NEVER fall for this. Always tell them to return the item for a full refund. You will find that that most of them will not, because they still want the item that they have in possession.

The attachment folder is in fact full. I will need to delete a bunch of older images that you posted early in the life of Penny Can to accommodate you. I didn't touch any of them because I didn't know which images you wanted to keep intact in your post(s).

Just to clarify, DO NOT ISSUE REFUND until you have gotten the item back into your possession and examined it to see if he/she has tampered with it in any way.

Thanks for the heads up on the eBay stuff.

So, just off the top of your head, what do you think I should ask for in the eBay listing?

*******************

So this folder cleanup, will it affect stuff we have posted in past?

I'm just asking.... I can't recall of anything important.

Just put a $ amount to the Tee that you would be happy to live with if it sold at. If you think it can sell for $300, personally I would ask for $500 as a buffer and just monitor what kind of traffic you get. Then you can raise or lower the price. It is what you feel comfortable with.

The post won't be harmed other than losing the images that are attached to said post.

Funny, I had both those figures in my head.

I'll think about this.

If you've never seen anyone else selling it, ask for more. I absolutely would and actually do. You just need one buyer to pull the trigger. Nothing else matters. Now if you were hurting for cash and only have a loaf of bread to get you to the end of the week, then that's something you will have to factor into the equation.
