Rush Unveil "TIME MACHINE 2011: LIVE IN CLEVELAND"; 2-CD Set Recorded During Legendary Trio's Recent World Tour; Band Simultaneously Release Live Version of Landmark Album "MOVING PICTURES" on Vinyl;

Quote
NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Sep 20, 2011) - Legendary rock band Rush have announced details for the first offerings through their recently announced partnership with Roadrunner Records. On November 8, Anthem/Roadrunner will simultaneously release a two-disc live album entitled "TIME MACHINE 2011: LIVE IN CLEVELAND" as well as "MOVING PICTURES: LIVE 2011" on vinyl and digital formats.

Captured in April at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena during the renowned trio's extensive Time Machine World Tour, "TIME MACHINE 2011: LIVE IN CLEVELAND" marks the band's first live album recorded at a U.S. show, a deliberate nod of gratitude to the first city to support Rush on its radio airwaves. The wildly popular tour featured a set filled with classic hits, fan favorites, and a glimpse into Rush's forthcoming 20th studio album "CLOCKWORK ANGELS." As a centerpiece for the concerts, the band performed their landmark album "MOVING PICTURES" in its entirety -- a first in the band's long and illustrious career. Rave reviews of the tour included The Hollywood Reporter's declaration that "the current Time Machine jaunt is nothing less than a must see... for nearly three hours, with intermission, Rush proved why it remains among rock's elite live acts." Full track listing for "TIME MACHINE 2011: LIVE IN CLEVELAND" attached below.

"MOVING PICTURES: LIVE 2011" marks the first live recording of the band's most successful album to date. Originally released in 1981, this year marks the 30th anniversary of "MOVING PICTURES," which features some of Rush's most well-known songs like "Tom Sawyer," "Limelight," and "YYZ."

In related news, Rush is also releasing "Time Machine 2011: Live In Cleveland" on BluRay and DVD formats on November 8 via Rounder Records in the U.S. and Eagle Rock Entertainment abroad. VH1 will be airing a 2-hour concert culled from the footage as part of their annual "Rushashana" program on September 29. This fall, Rush will be returning to the studio to resume work on their highly anticipated 20th studio album, "CLOCKWORK ANGELS" due out in 2012.

With more than 40 million records sold worldwide and countless sold-out tours, Rush -- Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart -- is not only one of the most inventive and compelling groups in rock history, but remains one of the most popular. The RIAA has certified Rush for the third most consecutive gold/platinum studio albums by a rock band, topped only by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Rush's vast catalog includes such classics as 1974's self-titled debut, 1976's "2112," 1981's "MOVING PICTURES," 1996's "TEST FOR ECHO," and 2002's "VAPOR TRAILS." Rush's most recent studio album, 2007's "SNAKES & ARROWS," debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200, marking the band's highest chart debut since 1993, as well as their eleventh top 10 album in the U.S. In addition to their commercial success, Rush has also been recognized with a number of Juno Awards and multiple Grammy nominations, including one for the acclaimed documentary "Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage" at this year's gala event. Enjoying a recent pop culture renaissance, Rush made a rare television appearance -- their first in over 30 years -- on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" and a memorable cameo in the film "I Love You, Man." A career-chronicling Rolling Stone feature summed up the renowned rock trio's continuing artistic vitality by observing, "It's true that Rush doesn't mean today what it did in '76 or even '96. It may mean more."

Rush puts out more long form videos than anyone else I know and they are usually of the highest caliber and not some quick cash grab either.

Shout! Factory announced that they will be releasing selected Concert Sets from the US Festival. The first two releases were on November 15 for Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings, neither of which I am interested in. My focus is on Metal Day for sure and some other artists on the other days. For those unfamiliar with the US Festival, go here to get up-to-date.

Hmmmmm. I gotta give Gene and Paul credit where credit is due. I think even they knew that a Volume 4 set featuring just stuff with Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer would not sell as well. So, what they have done is gone back to the vault from all incarnations of the band to give it a good variety of material to satisfy those long time KISS fans. Ahem. Still remains to be seen what the bonus disk will be at Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart. Not sure about Target getting one yet. To be released late November, just in time for Xmas.

Amy Winehouse - Lioness: Hidden Treasures Dec 6

Quote
2011 posthumous release, a collection of previously unreleased tracks, alternate versions of existing classics, as well as a couple of brand new Amy compositions. Following her tragic passing, some of the producers and musicians who worked closely with Amy Winehouse, among them Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, spent time listening over the many recordings that Amy had made, before, during, and after the release of Frank and Back To Black. It was said by all who worked with Amy that she never sang or played a song the same way twice. It quickly became apparent to Salaam and Mark that they had a collection of songs that deserved to be heard, a collection of songs that were a fitting treatment to Amy the artist and, as importantly, Amy the friend.

Paul McCartney - Kisses on the Bottom

Paul McCartney lost me many moons ago. Besides his Wings and very early solo releases, I don’t think he’s done anything relevant worth listening too. I at times check in to see what he’s been up too but they always fall flat… even stuff like his classic rockers Run Devil Run.

Quote
While many a musician is often asked about the tunes that have influenced their songwriting, it is not a question Paul McCartney ordinarily gets to answer - until now. Paul is about to offer a glimpse into "the songs which inspired the songs" with the upcoming release of a brand new album of those standards he grew up listening to in his childhood-plus two brand new McCartney compositions. With the help of Grammyr Award-winning producer Tommy LiPuma and Diana Krall and her band-as well as guest appearances from Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder, McCartney's new album is a deeply personal journey through classic American compositions that, in some cases, a young Paul first heard his father perform on piano at home. As authentic and daring a musical statement as he could make, this is the album Paul has been thinking about making for more than 20 years - and probably the last thing his fans are expecting. "In the end it was 'Look, if I don't do it now, I'll never do it'," he says. In short, Paul believes it is about time "the songs me and John based quite a few of our things on" received the recognition they deserve. Moreover, the record also features a couple of new original McCartney compositions in the spirit of those classics. "When I kind of got into songwriting, I realized how well structured these songs were and I think I took a lot of my lessons from them," Paul explains. "I always thought artists like Fred Astaire were very cool. Writers like Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, all of those guys - I just thought the songs were magical. And then, as I got to be a songwriter I thought it's beautiful, the way they made those songs." Determined to approach the record in a new and unique manner, Paul enlisted the help of LiPuma and Krall and her band-who delivered ultra-high quality musicianship and were completely in tune with Paul's restraint and feel for the music. In the studio, the recording of this album was also a new challenge for Paul who, for the first time ever, performed exclusively in the vocal booth without an instrument - no guitar, no bass, no piano - which led to a vocal performance like no other in his career. He adds, "It was very spontaneous, kind of organic, which then reminded me of the way we'd work with The Beatles. We'd bring a song in, kick it around, when we found a way to do it we'd say 'Okay, let's do a take now' and by the time everyone kind of had an idea of what they were doing, we'd learnt the song. So that's what we did, we did the take live in the studio." "It was important for me to keep away from the more obvious song choices so, many of the classic standards will be unfamiliar to some people. I hope they are in for a pleasant surprise." The album was recorded at the legendary Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, New York and London throughout 2011. It also features guest musicians Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder, respectively, on the original compositions "My Valentine" and "Only Our Hearts."

Eagle members seem to taking a break...

Analog Man - Joe Walsh (June 5, 2012)

After Hours - Glenn Fry May 8, 2012.

I really can appreciate Frey's solo stuff. It's just so well written and produced. Saying that, I'm not sure about him doing a standards set like Rod Stewart. I'm hopeful and it will blow me away.
