Clockwork Angels - Rush June 12, 2012

Word is they've gotten back to a more aggressive sound. I've heard two songs and would tend to agree.

1. Caravan
2. BU2B
3. Clockwork Angels
4. The Anarchist
5. Carnies
6. Halo Effect
7. Seven Cities Of Gold
8. The Wreckers
9. Headlong Flight
10. BU2B2
11. Wish Them Well
12. The Garden

It is cool isn't it. Very Retro.

Yeah, that Heart cover looks horrible. Something a 5 year old did on Photoshop. The "Art Designer" really dropped the ball on that one.

Quote
As a celebration of the 30th anniversary of their debut album, DAWN PATROL, and hot on the heels of their 10th studio album, SOMEWHERE IN CALIFORNIA, Night Ranger will release a very special newly-recorded live greatest hits CD/DVD package: 24 STRINGS & A DRUMMER LIVE & ACOUSTIC via Frontiers Records.

The album and DVD were recorded live in an intimate, all-acoustic setting with a select number of fans at TRI Studios in San Rafael, CA in May, 2012 and features some of their greatest hits such as (You Can Still) Rock In America and Sister Christian with refreshing new acoustic arrangements. The result is a testament to Night Ranger s stellar live show and the strength of their songwriting abilities. Please see below for the full track listings and click here to access cover art.

Night Ranger s profile has been particularly high of late, with the band recently appearing on an episode of ABC s Bachelor Pad during the final challenge and Night Ranger frontman Jack Blades performing live during the Republican National Convention. Night Ranger s legendary hits "Sister Christian," "(You Can Still) Rock in America," and "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" are songs that have each significantly impacted popular culture and expanded their ever-growing fanbase since the band s inception thirty years ago. Over the years, the band s music has made notable contributions to and been featured in many different areas of media and popular culture. Night Ranger s songs can be heard in the Rock Band and Guitar Hero video games; Rock of Ages hit Broadway musical and film; the Oscar-nominated film Boogie Nights; FOX s hit TV Show American Dad; JBL s Hear The Truth campaign; and many more! Guitarist Brad Gillis tells Ultimate Classic Rock that the new live release came about very naturally for the group. Performing acoustically, he says, was “pretty familiar for us,” thanks to years of playing stripped down versions of many of their hits during radio interviews and occasionally, in the middle of their own headlining performances.

With the big hits already in their acoustic arsenal, Gillis says that they just had to look at the rest of their catalog to pull out some additional songs to have enough for a full show. With a couple of days of rehearsal, he says that they reworked some of the songs “to make things a little bit different, and it turned out great.”

Gillis recalls that back in the ’80s, ‘(You Can Still) Rock In America’ came about as a result of frontman Jack Blades, who heard people saying that “rock is dead.” With Night Ranger selling out 15,000 seat venues at the time, Blades figured that the terminal diagnosis was perhaps a bit premature. He got with Gillis and shared his idea of a possible song idea. For Gillis, it was a no-brainer and he and Blades quickly knocked out the framework for the song and took it to the rest of the band.

From there, it was smooth sailing (or should we say, “motorin’,” to borrow from the band’s other future smash ‘Sister Christian’) and in his words, the “next thing you know, we had a nice rock anthem that’s been one of the highlights of our set for the past 30 years!”

Neal Schon and Carlos Santana Discussing New Collaborative Project

Quote
It’s been more than 40 years since Neal Schon left Santana to form the band that would become Journey. However, a new interview with Schon reveals that he and Carlos Santana have had preliminary talks about a potential new project.

“I’ve reconnected with Carlos Santana now and we have been talking about doing something together again,” he told Noise11 (via Vintage Vinyl News). “We’ve talked a lot on the telephone and I hooked up with him before Christmas. You never know what’s going to happen. Life is full of surprises. It’s very exciting.”

Schon got his start in Santana as a 15-year old wunderkind in the Bay Area. He appeared on two of their albums, 1971′s ‘Santana III’ and ‘Caravanserai’ a year later, before he and keyboardist/vocalist Gregg Rolie decided to branch out on their own in 1975. Two years later, Journey released their debut album.

Schon has been busy of late on non-Journey projects. In addition to the potential upcoming work with Carlos Santana, he released a solo instrumental album, ‘The Calling,’ in October. “It has sections that are rockin’ and very electric and then there’s sections that are really deep and bluesy,” he told us on the eve of its release. “But I love the fact that there’s a lot of melody as well, for being an instrumental record.”
