This is NOT a Review

I've never bothered to pick up her debut album in large part because she has said that she was very unhappy with it. Personally, I have heard one song and that was when I saw the video a couple of times when it first came out. I really didn't think it was all that. I actually just dismissed her as another "flavor of the week" that wouldn't amount to anything as far as a career. Boy, did I ever miss the mark on that one.

I do think eventually I will get around to picking this up because I'm a completest. But right now, it's not a priority here.

Horrible cover IMO. Just....ugh.

P!nk (Missundaztood) 2001

Singles

Back in the day I was very much into the Dance/Night Club scene. My name is Chip and I'm a Clubber. Well, former Clubber anyways. So, this was one of those guilty pleasure CD's. I picked it up for the ultimate party song (at the time it was): Get The Party Started, as it was constantly being played in every club I went to. Earworm. It got stuck and never left.

When I picked up the album, I figured the whole thing would be exactly like that song. Wrong. It's so much more than that. So much better than I would have ever guessed. I was actually shocked at how good of a singer P!nk is. She has a very bluesy, smokey sounding voice, that just takes you places. I can and still do, listen to this with headphones at night in the dark when I just want to veg and not do anything.

A lot of the songs have tell-tale beats that definitely mark the time of when it came out. Just a quick listen to Respect and you will know what I'm talking about. Luv the song because of it too. 18 Wheeler probably has the best vocal harmonies on the entire album.

Faev Songs: Don't Let Me Get Me, Just Like A Pill, Family Portrait, Lonely Girl, My Vietnam (totally dig the star spangled banner that plays out. Channeling Jimi a lil bit on this one).

And the showstopper of them all...Misery (featuring Steven Tyler). You want just one song to sum up her enormous vocal talent, this is the one. Amazing. I'm not a singer, Not even close. I don't sing, period. But when this song is on, it makes me want to become one. A close 2nd would be Eventually.

Nothing more to really add to my original review. I stand behind the 10 star rating 100%. Dear Diary is spinning right now. This album as a whole is just a perfect blend of different styles and beats. On paper, it shouldn't work. But here it absolutely does. This is gonna be a fun marathon for me for the next few days.

Just checked the original review post date. Wow, almost a year to the day. I thought at most it had been 6 months since I last listened to this.

Album cover ftw! Front and back. Yummy.  ;D

P!nk (Try This) 2003

Singles

It's really a toss up which I like better. This album or Misunnderztood. This is a great follow up to a mega hit album. And it's not a rehash or a sequel. It would have been so easy to fall into that trap. But P!nk manage to create another completely original disc full of great songs that have tons of hooks and great vocals.

I think the majority of people that have never really listened to P!nk, just assume that she is bubble gum pop and unfortunately get's lumped in with the likes of Britney and Christina, based on the videos she releases. I understand that the record company wants hits and will of course go with what they think will appeal to the masses of 15 year olds. But the rest of her album is actually very introspective and deep. Very layered, and far from what I would call bubble gum pop. This is as good as it gets. Just plain and simple...awesome stuff from her.

Personal faves: Trouble, God Is A DJ, Last To Know, Tonight's The Night, Catch Me While I'm Sleeping, Save My Life. Catch Me While I'm Sleeping is still my favorite from Try This and is clearly the MVP here. But Waiting For Love is a close 2nd. Just so many great ****ing songs on here.

Awesome cover btw.

Be sure to pick up the Uncensored version of the album to score the hidden track: Hooker. That P!nk sure has a filthy mouth.  ;D

P!nk (I'm Not Dead) 2006

Platinum Edition Cover

Singles

After two straight flawless albums (M!ssundaztood and Try This), P!nk obviously had something live up to. This is a good album, but IMO, slightly below the other 2. Great songs, and hooks. But I think it just didn't seemed to flow in the same way as the others did. But I still recommend I'm Not Dead to anyone out there looking for something to listen too. I actually gave this one an even lower rating (from 4 Stars to 3 1/2 Stars) since the last time I listened to this one. Like I said before, it just doesn't jell as a whole to my ears. Some really great songs here. But it just doesn't measure up to Missundaztood and Try This.

Runaway and Leave Me Alone (I'm Lonely) are still the best on here though. Cuz I Can was the final single released for this album. But alas there's no cover art as it was released as a digital download only.

Personal faves: Nobody Knows, Dear Mr. President, Leave Me Alone (I'm Lonely), Runaway, and I Got Money Now.

My biggest fear was that this would be where things would go downhill with her next record. How wrong I was in that.

P!nk (Funhouse) 2008

Singles

I can't recall any artist, let alone a female one at that, that has had a streak of relevant, near perfect releases that just don't suck. P!nk, once again knocks it so far out of the park, that she may have done the impossible: Not being able to top this album: Funhouse. P!nk had alot to measure up to with both M!ssundaztood and Try This. I'm Not Dead, although a very good record, just wasn't perfect. This was where I was "ok, this is where the downward slide of the artist begins". My fears were quickly dispelled after the first 3 songs for Funhouse. And then it got reeeeeallly good.

Personal Fave: "So What", "Sober", "I Don't Believe You", "One Foot Wrong", "Please Don't Leave Me", "Mean" and "Glitter In The Air". But the MVP goes to "Ave Mary A". Luv it.

I'm always playing P!nk's stuff and I'm a huge fan of M!ssundaztood and Try This, but right now, I gotta go with this as the best of the bunch. This is rock music with some ballads thrown in. Not bubble gum pop music like those of Britney and Christina.

I ordered her 2 Concert DVD's the other day. Can't wait to get them.  Should arrive today or tomorrow.

I stand behind my original 10 star rating for Funhouse. This is just good **** all around. She doesn't repeat herself anywhere on the album. Each song is a complete original and instantly recognizable. There are a handful of songs that could have easily been hit singles if the record company ever chose to release them as such. Ave Mary A is one of them that absolutely should have gotten a push.

Please Don't Leave Me, Mean and Ave Mary A are still tops in my book from this one.

Yes. Yes I would.

You know. Gaga doesn't need all that sh*t that she is bringing with the costume changes. She can actually write good songs and can sing. It's the whole image thing as the "selling point" that makes me not take her serious as an artist. Madonna did it first and was a trend setter. Gaga is coming off as a pale imitation.

Once Bieber shaves his head, I might listen to a song of his all the way through.

Oh, P!nk ftw! This is HER thread, damn it! And she must be the last thing I post here.  ;D

Yes, Pink will be the last thing, but she's just starting.

I heard my second Gaga song this weekend. I'm not impressed one bit... by her music writing, but especially by her voice. I think the song was Pokerface. Good gawd, that kind of song could have been done by anyone. But she is part of the pop formula today and millions of folks buy off on that crap.  :-\
