Record This! (The Home and Pro Recording Studio Thread)
« on: February 17, 2018, 11:58:48 am »
Creating a new thread geared specifically toward the in's and outs of Recording. I love to see BTS of how other people approach their craft from the simplest of plugging into a PC or to a more robust Studio that covers more than just hitting the Record button. This also includes the art of writing Songs as well.

The Making Of DREAD MACHINE

Dread Machine

Don't buy Apple for Audio Production? (and other questions) | Spectre VC

Half the people in these videos I have been following for the better part of the year. This was fun to see come together. Not a fan of the singing...but the Multi Guitar Solo more than makes up for it.

And he looks a little bit like he could be Sly Stallone's third brother!!

We already know from the Norms rare guitar videos that Frank is a big guitar collector.  Haha

Movo VXR10: Cheaper & Louder than the Rode VideoMicro

Great $40 Camera Microphone for Vlogging/Youtube - Movo VXR10 Review

I'm gonna throw these in here since it relates to recording. Rode is the gold standard when it comes to recording audio on DSLR's. So, when a smaller company like Movo comes along and unseats the King...it's a good thing for buyers.

How To Write A SICK Guitar Solo!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJDUfetSMMY&t=0s&list=LLTVgXy5pOO9ff20O1Z1QPMw&index=1

This is one of Stevie T's better vids. The only thing I wished he would have included here was to actually show his Post Processing when splicing all the bits and pieces of the solo into a collective whole. Sure, we all know how he would technically do this in Pro Tools or whatever software he uses.....but it would still be fun to watch his process completely.

Synth Sounds of Tears for Fears "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" | Reverb Learn to Play

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSoMYqFQfIA&list=LLTVgXy5pOO9ff20O1Z1QPMw&index=3&t=0s

I was hoping that Reverb would do something with Everybody Wants To Rule The World. It's obvious why. Cool breakdown in how all the parts work together as a collective whole.

So this barely counts as a recording studio thing, but I ordered Dropmix on a whim since it was 5p% off on Amazon and just got it in the mail today.  Been playing on it for... I don't even know how long, but it is D*MN addictive.  It's sort of a card game, you have five sots and various cards that trigger music cues from different songs (vocals, guitar, bass, trumpets, piano, drums, etc) and you can use them to basically DJ on the fly without any pro equipment.  It's pretty fun and real easy, my only issue is that there were waayyyyyy too few vocal tracks, things began to feel repetitive pretty quick.  I ordered some expansion packs but all five card types are assorted together, you can't JUST get vocals, or more trumpets, or anything you might have an affinity for, and that kinda sucks.  It would be nice to... I could pipe the audio into my computer pretty easily, but there'd be a delay, I think it would be interesting to find a way to use my own collection of vocal tracks and sound effects with this live.  I could do it in post if I needed to, but it wouldn't be the same.

Never heard of this. Did research after your post and it makes perfect sense that Harmonix is behind this.

Setting up a PC as an amp simulator (updated)

An older vid, but still worth checking out. Very simply, but informative.
