Samples...
« on: May 11, 2014, 05:24:50 pm »
So the reason I found the 12 hour Siren video's is because I'm looking for a sample, mp3, oog, Moog, of REO Speedwagon's Ridin' the Storm Out introductory siren opening

I'm still looking. Lots of discussions on how to make the sound from the mini moog, etc. But I could not find just an mp3 or wav file.

Gahhhh

The band mates are considering playing the song and I think it will be very cool to have that opening. I could easily provide it from the module on my drum set.

So put your thinking caps on.

So THIS is sampling?

Ran across and article about Steely Dan and this came up.

This is f*cking horrible. Man I tell you, I haven't been missing anything if this is what they've been calling music. I can't believe Steely Dan agreed. WTF... WTF... WTF

Quote
Steely Dan had decided to reject Kanye West’s request to sample ‘Kid Charlemagne’ for his ‘Champion’ track. After West sent a heartfelt letter saying that the song was written about his feelings for his father, Becker and Fagen allowed it.

I think sampling, when done right, can be something of an added bonus to the original song. But there are a lot of variables to that to create something unique and "original". But when "artist" use a sample that basically calls attention to itself in the worst possible way, then you are getting into the realm of being nothing more than a hack that doesn't know anything about creating. I'm not against sampling because there are a few gems out there. The problem is that there are more misfires than actual diamonds out there.
