Special Guest Guitarist:
Michael SchenkerUnlike last week's (or should I say 'weak') self indulgent episode, this one was a great episode from start to finish with
Adrian Smith of
Iron Maiden fame. The episode here is exactly why I tune into the show in the first place.
Adrian was entertaining, informative and knew how to carry a conversation. You don't even have to be a fan of
Iron Maiden to even enjoy this one at all. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the band unlike some of my friends who are h a r d c o r e with them. My only exposure to
Maiden over the years has been their videos, long form videos, Full Concerts and Documentaries that always air on
VH1 Classic.
While watching this episode and listening to
Adrian talk, I had a flashback and remembered that I in fact did have my own brush with
Maiden back in High School when a friend of mine swapped albums with me for a week. I gave him like 3-4
KISS albums to check out and he gave me
The Number of the Beast and
Piece of Mind. Although I remember thinking both albums were pretty good, I just wasn't gaga over them because I was way into
KISS at the time that I really didn't open myself up to "new" bands even though the albums I got at the time were a few years old already.
As much as I rag on
Eddie, which I do a lot these days. This episode did produce a pretty touching moment when
Michael gave him one of his guitars to keep, which was really cool. And to answer your question
Eddie, 'yes, you are one lucky son of a b i t c h '.
FYI, this episode is the front-runner for
Episode Of The Year. I can definitely see myself watching this one again real soon.
